The first wave of e-mail invites for the early testing period will go out Thursday, and more invites will ship soon, says Activision spokesman Dan Amrich on his blog. Among some of the free features available for Elite: Career stats, heat maps, personal leaderboards and weapon-specific statistics. The beta will pull data from first-person shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops. The service will launch with its complete set of features on November 8, alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Elite will include free services as well as a premium paid subscription option, which lets users create clans.
And thus started the spam of people saying how much COD sucks ass.
Wait, you have to pay to start-up clans? Just an in-game clan? Are they serious?
Why do things like these have to work so well.
How much more greedy are they gonna get? Kotick already is swimming in money because of the 12 year olds continuously buying these half-assed games. Come the fuck on.
The problem with the current gaming market is that they have no dignity or self control whatsoever. They see they want something, and they'll pay for it with little foresight or understanding of how supporting a system like this will affect the future of gaming. It's a slippery slope. Ever since Modern Warfare they've been stripping down the game as much as possible and stripping once standard features already functional on the same game engine since 2005 and either dropping them completely or reselling them. You can't be mad at Activision though. They're a company with a profit model just like everyone else, and if they can make more for less then they almost certainly will. They don't have respect for their userbase because they don't need to. These choices aren't possible without a consumer foundation supporting them, and that's the reason it's gotten this out of hand, and for what? A cookie cutter campaign plot with animated .gif sprite explosions everywhere that's a borderline railshooter with subpar visuals? Arcade style multiplayer corridor shooting rebranded and reskinned every year? This is what people are willing to take it up the ass for in spite of all the other choices, hell, even the clones that do the same thing without the consumer buttfucking? I'm not fit for this planet anymore. If this takes off then I'll be truly surprised. Activision must be laughing their asses off. They fire off nearly all the Infinity Ward staff while retaining the rights to the name of the company that made the franchise what it is, rebrand the game on the same engine with the same assets, and it'll sell most on Xbox 360 where they'll be paying for P2P online via Xbox Live Gold Membership AS WELL as Call of Duty Elite, just paying a tax on a fucking brand name and they'll LIKE it. I just don't get it. Edit: I hate people who rate posts with dumb or disagree and then never reply.
Activision is gonna single handedly get rid of the deficit.
Oh wow, I can create clans if I buy a subscription? YES, this is what I want.
So seems like Activision keeps doing this shit again and again... Oh boy.
I love how Battlefield 3, whether or not it's better than COD, is slapping them in the face openly. I know where my money is going.
So this could mean less clans, right? If so, this would mean great news if it weren't for the fact I don't play CoD.
You guys do realise that a lot of the features in COD:Elite will be free anyway. They haven't announced what extra features people will get from paying, but I highly doubt that they will be charging you for simple things like clans or stats.
I don't see what the problem is. It's a free service with a subscription plan that doesn't give any paying users an advantage over free users.

The amount of things you have to pay for with COD makes me sick.

Most of the content pushed out for BC2 was made to go head-to-head with Black Ops or mw2, instead of being original: everything from mocking advertising, to trying their own set of customization (DLC that came out last year iirc), to a Vietnam setting. Tie that with Origin and I'm through with EA too.

Call of Duty invented shootan. Call of Duty invented everything.

And calling Battlelog the "ripoff" is hilarious
Man, I bought Battlefield: Vietnam when it first came out. But, isn't it coincidental that they launch a repackaging of Vietnam after all these years when Black Ops covers Vietnam too? Vietnam isn't a popular field either; BF:V was actually a very underrated title compared to the other Battlefield games. But, the game likes to follow in CoD's wake suspiciously. When mw2's first DLC started appearing, EA decided to launch their DLC-mocking campaign at the same time. When Black Ops touted customizable units, EA goes ahead and releases the "SPECACT Kit Upgrade," which claims players can change how their soldiers look and flaunts the Special Ops-related theme. When the Vietnam-theme is revealed in the new Call of Duty game, EA goes to Vietnam with Bad Company 2. When Call of Duty Elite pops up, EA counters with Battlelog. They released screenshots of Battlelog the same EXACT day Elite beta goes live. This isn't a coincidence. EA is trying to compete with CoD by mimicking them - the EA CEO even claimed they want to take down Call of Duty - which is in the end what's so insanely stupid and turns me off
I mean I have been a CoD ADDICT for the past 4 years and have moved on to Battlefield until MW3. But cod elite is just so dumb. Treyarch had the same thing on the callofduty website during World at War but just a smaller version. Now they want us to pay for this when all cod does is piss me off? Nope. :]
And calling Battlelog the "ripoff" is hilarious
FYI Elite was announced late May. Battlelog about a week later in June. iirc Battlelog is suppose to be very similar to the -log system in Need for Speed anyway.

I'd do this gladly if I was activision, knowing there are enough dumb fucks who'd buy into it, I'd make a shit ton of money.
FYI Elite was announced late May. Battlelog about a week later in June. iirc Battlelog is suppose to be very similar to the -log system in Need for Speed anyway.
No it's a ripoff in the terms of "Do I actually have to fucking pay for this shit"
I feel sorry for the parents that have to suffer their 12 year olds crying about wanting this... Then again it's their own fault for letting their kids play COD. Should have brought them up on Battlefield like good parents would.
No it's a ripoff in the terms of "Do I actually have to fucking pay for this shit"
In that case yeah, Battlelog isn't a ripoff. I meant it more like they stole the concept.
It's competition and EA is doing better They don't charge for shit like map packs and stat checking, so they're just slapping Activision in the face It's basically mocking their greed Only reason anyone would be pissed about that is because they're a CoD fanboy and don't want to see their beloved franchise go down in flames
I wouldn't really mind it at all, except all I see is EA tracing CoD's route with similar themes and ideas. Origin already killed my interest in Battlefield 3 pretty hard, but if EA tried to compete with CoD through creativity instead of identical themes and etc. I would be much more excited about BF3. When I saw the trailer, I liked what I saw and the gameplay seemed more prone to making homages to what made BF great in the first place. This turns me off though. Even if this is a huge act in mocking Activision and CoD, I got it after the 2nd attempt. Now show me something original that doesn't just say "I am obsessed with my rival." Also stats on Elite were confirmed to be free last month.

Now they're just shitting on them without the decency to call it chocolate, how people are still fans of this series I honestly Do. Not. Know.
