• Scottish Independence 'Yes' campaign launched

'The official campaign encouraging people to back Scottish independence in a referendum is being launched in Edinburgh later. The Scottish National Party is playing a leading role in the "Yes Scotland" campaign, which will include other parties, celebrities and businesses. There have been some concerns campaigning is starting too early with a referendum not likely until 2014. A pro-union campaign is expected to launch later this year. SNP ministers, who want to hold a referendum in autumn 2014, have been holding talks with the UK government over the arrangements. Yes Scotland has been billed as the biggest community based campaign in Scotland's history, designed to build a groundswell of support for an independent Scotland. Campaign chiefs said the launch would feature Scots "from all walks of life", as well as "leading stars", while a website supporting the drive will also be launched. However, voluntary groups body, the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO), has called on politicians to put referendum campaigning on hold, saying it was too early to argue for a "simplistic" yes or no vote to independence.' Fine then, get the fuck out of England. *Scotland walks off, gets shot by Wales* Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-18162832
I hope they'll get it. not sure how long they'll last tho.
Please stay Scotland without your constituencies the Conservatives will dominate Westminster.
That would make the Union Jack weird. [editline]25th May 2012[/editline]
If the people want it let them have it, all we need now is our North back.
Scottish Independence: no.
If they want it then there is no reason why they shouldn't have it.
Despite how stupid and unconstructive the whole thing is, I do agree that we should respect their decision if they decide to leave. Remember that the whole basis for the UK's claim to Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands is based around the right to self-determination.
No. I see myself as British first, and not Scottish.
If they leave I hope their economy dies, ungrateful pricks.
If they leave I hope their economy dies, ungrateful pricks.
It will if the referendum passes. The only thing Scotland really has as a major part of the economy is the oil industry. And we all know that's not gonna last forever.
If they leave I hope their economy dies, ungrateful pricks.
That was the reason they joined in the first place. After the farce in which Scotland tried to colonise Panama, the country was so thoroughly bankrupted it decided on an act on union with England to solve their money troubles.
There's really a good reason why Scotland signed itself into the union to begin with.
If they leave I hope their economy dies, ungrateful pricks.
Oh thanks I mean all of us Scots want to leave the Union and have our economy destroyed. Asshole.
Oh thanks I mean all of us Scots want to leave the Union and have our economy destroyed. Asshole.
No I'm talking about the ungrateful dicks who do want to leave the union despite the fact that we do so much to keep them happy. Sure the Tories are in power, but pretty much everywhere that isn't London suffers in that case, it would be better if Scotland stayed and helped us kick them out in the next election.
Cue the Braveheart quotes everybody.
Cue the Braveheart quotes everybody.
You can take my freedom but you'll never take my life! Charge! [editline]25th May 2012[/editline] I never watched the movie but I vaguely remember someone quoted it once.
Personally I think they should take whatever shot at independence they've got. Ever since they got their own parliament they've been doing better than England and Wales. They've got better schools, better transport, economy. If they can maintain their growth in independence then why should we stop them? We can always welcome them back to the fold if they decide it isn't working out.
If they can maintain their growth in independence then why should we stop them? We can always welcome them back to the fold if they decide it isn't working out.
It doesn't quite work like that - they shouldn't be able to come and go as they please.
I'm really torn about this issue. On the one hand I like the idea of self-determination, but if we leave the UK are we just going to play a bigger role in the EU? We'll be swapping one union for another.
I sympathise with their grievances but I think independence is totally myopic and would be detrimental to both the Scots and the people south of the border. Don't leave :(
To be honest, I don't even really know what they will gain from this - aside from independent control of foreign affairs and defence. They already have a high level of devolved control. Also, defence is going to be an interesting issue. I can see there being some arguments over who owns what.
Let them have it I say. english bastard eh

And I'm pretty sure the idea is to build our own armed forces but they'd be under strength for a generation or so, but frankly who the fuck would invade Scotland? All we have is whiskey and a few big ginger cows in the hills up north.

This is an extremely poor and short sighted idea on Scotlands part.
