• Some huge star's gonna destroy the Earth
A STAR is primed to explode in a blast that could wipe out the Earth, according to American astronomers. A new study shows the star, called T Pyxidis, is much closer than previously thought at 3,260 light-years away - a short hop in galactic terms. It is set to self-destruct in an explosion called a supernova with the force of 20 billion billion billion megatons of TNT. The blast from the thermonuclear explosion could strip away the Earth's ozone layer that keeps out deadly space radiation, scientists said.
Source Aren't we going to have a blast dealing with this.
Nice [editline]11:45AM[/editline] Russia or Amerika is gonna send shitload of rockets to destroy it anyway.

The current consensus is that T Pyxidis, if it goes supernova at all, won't explode for some ten million years. By cosmic (and geological) standards, ten million years is practically tomorrow, but it's hard to feel too worried about it if T Pyxidis does go supernova. Even then, it would take three millennia for the radiation to reach Earth. So our descendants 10,000,000 years from now can rest easy too. Although I pity those poor fools 10,003,00 years in the future. Truly, they were the unluckiest of all.

won't explode for some ten million years.
Nothing to see here folks.

God's final solution in the war against human stupidity. :downs:
Do they know when this will happen?
don't worry you'll be dead already so you won't die
Well, that's real fucking neato'
http://io9.com/5440266/nearby-nova-could-spell-doom-for-far-future-earth Nothing to see here folks.
Typical media.
It's still going to take at least 3000 years before we are hit by a shockwave, or even see it explode. So I don't care.
Although I pity those poor fools 10,003,00 years in the future.
I'm pretty sure we'll have the tech to stop that star from destroying humanity by then.
Yeah, its going to destroy Earth for sure. But no one will be there.
If humanity has not yet descovered to leave our solar system by that time, either by faster then the speed of light or some crap, then I would not be very sorry for them.
I'm pretty sure we'll have the tech to stop that star from destroying humanity by then.
By then it will be too late, that's when the radiation would hit.
We would just leave Earth.
those stupid humans [editline]10:55AM[/editline]
We would just leave Earth.
you son of a bitch >:C
wouldn't blowing it up just be doing what it's gonna do in the first place?
noooooooooooooooooo >:c
When i read this i though it was just some random drunk fp'er who looked at the son too long and finally noticed its bright and hot.
Nice [editline]11:45AM[/editline] Russia or Amerika is gonna send shitload of rockets to destroy it anyway.
It's a goddamn star. It's not a tiny little meteor, it's enormous.

The people in the future are going to be reading this thread, angry.
By then it will be too late, that's when the radiation would hit.
If we have the tech to stop the star from destroying us (with it's radiation) we won't die. Maybe we'll just live on another planet or we have robot-bodies that are immune to radiation or a huge magnet that stops it from hitting earth or some shit.

Did the star suddenly grow a dick?
Fuck then I have to ditch my plan of cryogenically freezing myself.
shit gaise world will end in 2000 wait it didn't k lets go with 2004 shit didn't work 2012 might work hmm that didn't happen let's try this Sad thing is, i've googled doomsday for 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 (then i got bored). Each one has its own doomsday theory.
Not really what we're talking about here at all.
Oh fuck, oh fuck. Everyone's gonna die. Oh fuck oh fuck. I better get ready for this event. Oh fuck oh fuck, it's in a millions years.
Not in my lifetime :smug:
