On Thursday, Comcast (CCV) said shareholders in DreamWorks will receive $41 in cash per share of stock -- a roughly 50% premium from where the stock was trading before the merger talks were reported earlier this week. Comcast said it expects the deal to pass regulatory muster and take effect by the end of the year. Comcast said DreamWorks "will become part of the Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, which includes Universal Pictures, Fandango, and NBCUniversal Brand Development." NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke said "DreamWorks will help us grow our film, television, theme parks and consumer products businesses for years to come." His mentions of the theme parks and products was important. While DreamWorks is best known for movies like "Shrek" and "Kung Fu Panda," much of the studio's value to Comcast is in the so-called long tail of amusement park integrations, merchandise, and other synergistic deals.
CNN
Gross.
I really hope they don't somehow fuck up any of Dreamworks movies in the future, I fucking love Kung Fu Panda.
I'd buy Comcast for $3.80 and throw it in the trash
Dreamworks movies now capped to 45minutes.
I guess I have to watch a bunch of Dreamworks movies on netflix before they get pulled.
Yay now DreamWorks movies might be streamed via the platform so it can be a buggy piece of shit.
RIP shrek.
Wow that is terrible :frown:
I'd buy Comcast for $3.80 and throw it in the trash
I don't know about you, but if I could buy Comcast for $3.80 I would jump at the opportunity like no other.
I'd buy Comcast for $3.80 and throw it in the trash
You really wouldn't though, would you? Let's be honest for a moment here.
I hope this doesn't shrink the chances of a new Shrek movie.
You really wouldn't though, would you? Let's be honest for a moment here.
I'd buy it for $10, overhaul the company and sell it for $100,000 and buy Steam games.

I find it crazy how DreamWorks sells for $3.8 billion, and yet, Instagram and even Minecraft were bought for a billion less or so.

I'm sure that Dreamworks's actual filmmaking is pretty damn important to them, a bad movie won't move merchandise, but with that wording it makes it sound like their films weren't as high of a priority.

While they are outmatched by Disney in terms of actual net worth, they make up for it in brand recognition.
Conglomocast Megacorp will soon rule the world with Minion merchandise and shitty internet service!
Prepare for shrek to be rammed up our collective assholes.
Prepare for shrek to be rammed up our collective assholes.
a dream come true
I knew Dreamworks was in trouble but ffs, not the right way to go at all.
Tbf 95% of dreamwork's films are trash anyway. The only films they made that I can think of that are good were shrek 1 + 2
Tbf 95% of dreamwork's films are trash anyway.
Alright, but that's just your opinion.

As a fan of the How to Train Your Dragon movies, this news really worries me. It could also explain why that graphic novel they were supposed to released two days ago hasn't came out as well.
You guys are overreacting. Sure, the corporate higher-ups at Comcast are shite, but NBC Universal isn't bad at all. Nothing will change, just now some of your money that you pay when you see RTED2 will go to funding the Comcast Innovation and Technology Center.
They'd better keep the Dreamworks charm, no meddling allowed.
