Earlier today, The Independent published an interview with Tim Cook where he shared his thoughts on the Apple Pencil and the iPad Pro's target market. This afternoon, The Telegraph published a second interview where Tim Cook spoke further on his vision of the iPad Pro as a PC replacement and how tablets are subsuming the PC market. According to Cook, the iPad Pro will serve as a replacement for a notebook or desktop computer for "many, many people."
"I think if you're looking at a PC, why would you buy a PC anymore? No really, why would you buy one?" [...] "Yes, the iPad Pro is a replacement for a notebook or a desktop for many, many people. They will start using it and conclude they no longer need to use anything else, other than their phones."

Tim Cook also proclaimed the new U2 album, conveniently also only on the itoons as one of the best rock albums of all time. Tim Cook proclaims a lot of things.
I'm confused as to who these "people" are. The most casual user would simply use a regular iPad, and most people concerned with getting actual work done will continue to use Surface/Windows machines.
I'm confused as to who these "people" are. The most casual user would simply use a regular iPad, and most people concerned with getting actual work done will continue to use Surface/Windows machines.
Maybe the people who play Farmville on the couch all evening?
Oh so the Ipad must be running osx now! woo!
Oh so the Ipad must be running osx now! woo!
[sp]You wish[/sp]
" iPad Pro will replace desktops and notebooks for 'many, many people's' wacom tablet" -Tim Cook there ifixed it
I think if you're looking at a PC, why would you buy a PC anymore? No really, why would you buy one?
Because they can run high-end games? Because they are flexible? Because you don't have to bend over and get fucked by apple's repair charges when it's busted? Jesus christ. I know he's just trying to pitch a product but he really sounds like as if he has his head up his ass.
Tim cook is kind of an asshole. Let your product speak for itself and shut your filthy biased mouth.
Maybe the people who play Farmville on the couch all evening?
Like I said though, wouldn't those folks just keep using standard iPads? What advantage does the Pro bring to that crowd?
then what is the point of the retina macbook? [t]http://cnet2.cbsistatic.com/hub/i/r/2015/04/07/b35f1174-696c-4d25-8a4f-fa16a2842338/thumbnail/770x433/e7833430bf45145868853f81c0545329/macbook-air-gold-2015-16.jpg[/t] no, really, who is this for? according to tim cook people who would be interested in the macbook will be just fine with the ipad pro
Didn't they say tablets would replace desktops like five years ago?
Maybe for people who's extent of using the pc is using facebook. Anyone who uses a PC for any real purpose will never use an ipad, unless they need a $400 paperweight.
Well I guess like 12 people can be considered "many"
I'm confused as to who these "people" are. Maybe if it actually added something new to the table, instead of just being an upgraded version of an existing product, people would believe you, Tim
K so here's how I see machines being used
iPad - Casual user, person travelling (plane, etc.), child, old people Smart Phone - See above Surface Pro - NFL Commentators sponsoring "Microsoft brand iPads" Macbook - College students, rich people, hipsters, my girlfriend and her family Thinkpad - /g/, Astronauts Other laptop (hp, dell, etc) - Poor college students Leapfrog - Power users Smart Watch - People with tiny hands, James Bond

Linux - Programmers, Web Devs, Sysadmins, North Korea Windows - Game Developers, Gamers Windows 10 - Windows 7 and 8 users OSX - Those with one finger, cats (for warmth), College students, hipsters, my GF and her family, etc.
For the price, why not buy a surface pro and be able to actually use the pen for something useful, like photoshop?
Tim cook is kind of an asshole. Let your product speak for itself and shut your filthy biased mouth.
This isn't politics or a public police case. He has every right to voice his biased opinion about his product made by his private company. It's called advertisement. I don't know which planet you live in if you think advertisement is wrong. :shitposting:
K so here's how I see machines being used
As a student, the Surface Pro 3 is fucking amazing and incredibly useful. The surface pen + onenote is great for taking notes and since it runs windows, I can use it for programming and games and shit.
TBH Surface Pro 3 is a great product because it actually runs windows. So you can do shit on fully featured desktop programs. Its basically a laptop. The keyboard means you can 'actually' type and not rely on some shitty touch-screen which just makes things annoying. I don't see what some tablet that is tied down to a marketplace is ever going to achieve. EDIT: Oh look the iPad has a "Smart keyboard" which docks with the iPad--wonder where they got that from.
It being a small touch screen automatically disqualifies it for me lmao. Mouse is just so much better and precise, and the screenspace of two large monitors is handy as fuck. Not to mention the lack of keyboard. Yeah, I know you can buy a keyboard for it, but it'll be pretty shit for doing anything more than web browsing.
The top model is like $1079 USD. I spent something like $2000+ on my Surface 3. So this is basically when people say the newest PS/Xbox will have better graphics than a PC at a fraction of the price. Not going to happen.
"why would you buy a pc" are you shitting me
yea and my anus is gonna replace my dickhole
Hipsters probably.
Lmao, as i scrolled past this i was sitting in the exact same position with the school issued macbook
A computer running iOS will never replace my desktop or laptop
The title is true enough. A large amount of PC owners, primarily the elderly, just use their machines as a watered down notebook - might as well get a cheaper watered down notebook. Doesn't necessarily have to be the iPad Pro though. But the "why buy a PC anymore" statement is the most inane bullshit I've ever heard.
You guys are missing the point of the article. It's not a statement, it's an advertisement. [editline]11th November 2015[/editline] Welcome to capitalism
K so here's how I see machines being used
OSX is IMHO better than Linux for doing programming/web development. A full *nix-based system with proprietary software like Photoshop so you can actually get shit done rather than fucking about with shite like GIMP. Package managers available too like Brew. And since they're popular machines for developers every cool new tool seems to come out on Mac first, then Linux, then Windows (if you're lucky).
