• Congress wants Trump to stop deleting his tweets
WASHINGTON ― When President Donald Trump or a member of his staff deletes a tweet, they may be violating federal law, two top congressmen warned the White House this week. Reps. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) and Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), chairman and ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, sent a letter to White House counsel Don McGahn on Wednesday expressing concerns about the Trump administration’s record keeping habits and its nontransparent use of social media and other forms of electronic communication. One example the lawmakers cited is Trump’s habit of misspelling and then deleting tweets, which they warned “could pose a violation to the Presidential Records Act” if the deleted tweets are not archived. “Many of the messages sent from these accounts are likely to be presidential records and therefore must be preserved,” they wrote, referring to both Trump’s personal @realDonaldTrump account and his official @POTUS account. “It has been reported, however, that President Trump has deleted tweets, and if those tweets were not archived, it could pose a violation of the Presidential Records Act,” Chaffetz and Cummings wrote in the letter. Trump sometimes deletes tweets due to spelling errors. Over the weekend, he deleted two tweets that misspelled the word “hereby.” Under former President Barack Obama, White House digital staffers instituted a system of auto-archiving tweets from the president and other top officials. “We eventually set up auto-archiving for official platforms, so errors could be corrected while preserving the original,” Ezra Mechaber, a former deputy director in the White House’s office of digital strategy, tweeted in January. Those tweets are now the property of the National Archives and Records Administration. In their letter, Chaffetz and Cummings also asked the White House to investigate whether federal officials are using personal email accounts for government business. Under the Presidential Records Act, White House officials must forward emails sent from those accounts to their government account within 20 days. The same is true of employees at federal agencies, under the Federal Records Act. “Official business must be conducted in such a way as to preserve the official record of actions taken by the federal government and its employees,” they wrote.
Source Full Letter

We need smartness back, to both Facepunch and our administration (User was banned for this post ("Why reply?" - Bengley))
If he deletes them but they are being recorded by an archiving service, what's the problem?
We need smartness back, to both Facepunch and our administration
i give you a 1 -1000 (User was banned for this post ("Why reply?" - Bengley))
what's the point of deleting them? I guarantee you someone's reading his twitter at every minute of every day.
i give you a 1 -1000
Wow. Ouch. Hit me right in the nostalgia, why don't you. I forgot Facepunch ever had a 1-to-5 rating system, until just now. Fuck I feel old. :v: (User was banned for this post ("Why reply?" - Bengley))
Smartness was necessary for facepunch's development. I'm sure you guiz r3m3mb3r wut ppl typ3d liek b4ck than and smartness served to keep gamefaqs off the forum until we started scamming microsoft for free stuff (User was banned for this post ("Why reply?" - Bengley))
guys he's fragile pointing this out is going to result in a poor mood aka destruction
He'll just blow another few million dollars in taxpayer money going back to Mar-a-Lago or having another pep rally, until he feels better.
If he deletes them but they are being recorded by an archiving service, what's the problem?
I believe the issue is that there's supposed to be a process to it that the president is meant to adhere to instead of waving his dick around on twitter.
I believe the issue is that there's supposed to be a process to it that the president is meant to adhere to instead of waving his dick around on twitter.
Not sure "there's supposed to be a process" means much to Trump.
ever since trump got the pregnancy this doesnt surprise me
what's the point of deleting them? I guarantee you someone's reading his twitter at every minute of every day.
I imagine many bots are doing nothing but archiving everything that twitter profile does every second. This seems like a fun five minute project to do myself.
I wonder how often he makes mistakes then, because the vast majority of his tweets are just mistakes outright Also, somehow the posts about smartness and such turned into a rather meta example about that very topic thanks to a string of bans
He should delete himself because he's a mistake.
He should delete himself because he's a mistake.
Never gets old.
Never gets old.
Really? This seemed to me like one of the most awkward attempts at a jab in the entire election.
Meanwhile the Republicans are all going to keep allowing this madman to break every rule, large and small, without consequence. I really hope the Republicans get destroyed when it comes to reelection in two years.
Really? This seemed to me like one of the most awkward attempts at a jab in the entire election.
That's exactly why it's so funny. It comes off as so awkward and forced coming from Hillary 'pokemon go to the polls' Clinton that I can't help but laugh.
Really? This seemed to me like one of the most awkward attempts at a jab in the entire election.
That was the point. It was too unintentiinally funny.
Never gets old.
I still love how they had to provide a comeback against one of the frailest egos with tons of flimsy arguments and skeletons in the closet and this was literally the best they could come up with.
