• The Hobbit (the upcoming movie) - TRAILER IS OUT

I'm not sure, if there's an another thread about The Hobbit film, the search program is down right now... The Hobbit is one of my favourite books along with the LOTR trilogy. I have read it about 3 times, and now there is a movie coming. I was very glad when I heard it, almost 2 years ago I suppose... What's the problem with making the film? Of course the film is going to be huge, the source material couldn't be more massive etc... But I can't wait! I'm really waiting for this film to hit the theaters. The estimated time to make this two-parted film is going to take long. The first part should be in theaters December 2012 and the second part December 2013 (too f*king long time to wait...) A quote from Wikipedia: "The Hobbit is the working title for a planned two-part film yet to be produced. The film is intended to be based on the novel of the same name by J. R. R. Tolkien. The film is in development and Peter Jackson, director of The Lord of the Rings film trilogy will serve as executive producer and co-writer. Guillermo del Toro worked with Jackson for over two years on the pre-production of the film, with a view to directing, but left the project in May 2010. Originally, the first part would have been an adaptation of the novel The Hobbit and the second part would have bridged the gap between this and The Lord of the Rings. It was del Toro's intention to instead split and expand the narrative of The Hobbit into two parts.[1] In July 2010 it was reported that Peter Jackson had signed on to direct both parts of "The Hobbit".[2][3] Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, and Hugo Weaving, who played characters in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy that also appear in The Hobbit, are attached to reprise their roles of Gandalf, Gollum and Elrond respectively." Patience will be rewarded, or at least I hope so.
Can't wait to watch these. Peter Jackson is an amazing director and that doesn't only apply to the Lord of the Rings movies he made.
I'd love it if Jackson took a subtle approach to this one, far from the massive sequences of LOTR.
I'd love it if Jackson took a subtle approach to this one, far from the massive sequences of LOTR.
It needs to surpass it's predecessor, and other Great prequels in the past have shown us that the only way to make it better, is more CGI, action, comedy and jar jar binks
I think Bill Bailey is in it
Apparently they're tapping up Martin Freeman to play Bilbo, which sounds awesome. Apparently the 2nd film will be a sort of sequel to the Hobbit and prequel to the LOTR films. Also, the more cinematic stuff (Battle of the Five Armies), which wasn't in the novel, will probably be in the film.
they've been pushing it back for years. someone told me once it was canceled. i've been looking forward to it since lotr though.
holy shit peter jackson lost a LOT of weight and this was him in 2003
250 million per film buys a lot of personal trainer.
It's too bad Guillermo Del Toro isn't directing this anymore, but I wouldn't want anyone else besides either him or Jackson.
These cannot come soon enough! The entire series has always been one of my favorites. No other author has ever created a world as expansive and influential as the one created by J. R. R. Tolkien.
It's too bad Guillermo Del Toro isn't directing this anymore, but I wouldn't want anyone else besides either him or Jackson.
Blomkamp or Rinsch would likely do an excellent job.
I'd love it if Jackson took a subtle approach to this one, far from the massive sequences of LOTR.
Agreed, I liked The Fellowship of the Ring a hell of a lot more than The Two Towers or The Return of the King. Something about the huge open shots like the Minas Tirith scene just made me feel disconnected, while scenes at the Shire and such were a lot more personal and really pull you into the film.
I happen to know someone who was in the orchestra for this. Lucky sonuva bitch got £2000 per session of recording.
I think Bill Bailey is in it
That sounds awesome but who could he play? A dwarf?
scenes at the Shire
Those really are some of my favourite bits of film ever - every shot is just awesome.

Say what you want about the films themselves, but the soundtrack of every LOTR film was Howard Shore's magnum opus. Speaking of Fellowship of the Ring, I noticed that almost every song was named after the corresponding chapter in the book.
Wasn't Gimli in this one? Or was it his father?
Wasn't Gimli in this one? Or was it his father?
his dad, Gloin I think
Awesome. I thought this has died because of del toro leaving. I'll wait with great patience!
Regardless of Del Toro's departure he has still worked on it a shit-ton.
No, Jackson's just taken the helm back is all. He's picking up where Del Toro left off (wasn't that far), except he's now directing and producing. That's all.
I really liked the Fellowship of the Ring, it was a lot more personal than the other 2. Having read the book, this movie will take the same route.
I'd love it if Jackson took a subtle approach to this one, far from the massive sequences of LOTR.
I think he's not going to, he's going to screw with things alot. For example I read on Wikipedia he's changing the sudden appearance of the archer guy who kills Smaug and making Bilbo kill him instead. My memory is hazy and it is wikipedia and a work in progress, don't put me to this. To be honest though when I read The Hobbit it did seem a little wierd that a guy just shows up out of nowhere and kills it. Also it's going to be two movies iirc.
The entire book will be the first film, they're just making a direct sequel to what happens right after for the second film. Or so that's what I've heard.
Guillermo del Toro would have The perfect dark approach to the story. Can't see anyone else directing it...
Good to see I wasn't alone thinking that the first LotR was the best. The huge battles in the other ones where awesome the first 2 or 3 times you saw them, but after that they got old quickly.
his dad, Gloin I think
I always thought that his name was kind of amusing. Gloin
