One of the most hotly anticipated games of 2013 is BioShock Infinite, a dark steampunk adventure set in an alternate-universe in 1912 on the flying city of Columbia. It’s the first game that designer Ken Levine has completed since the first BioShock, the Ayn-Rand-Goes-to-Atlantis megahit that is still widely regarded as one of the great achievements in modern gaming. EW got to play the first few hours of Infinite, and then we spoke to Levine about exploring mature themes, the violent videogame controversy, and how Dungeons & Dragons saved his sanity.
Do they have a review embargo on this? I'm confident this will be one of the best titles of the year, but Aliens:Colonial Marines has left me very wary. Their review embargo is what got them most of their sales. However, Bioshock is my favourite game of all time, with a close runner up being The Walking Dead.

We're supposed to get GTA5 after all, and that one is hard to trump.

[sp]I'm joking here but sadly, its the most likely thing to happen[/sp]

infinite is most definitely going to be one of the highlights of this year, along with GTA V
Bioshock must live on forever
I loved both BS1 and BS2. BS2 isn't very liked and I can see why but I very much liked how unique it was.
should i play bioshock? i heard it goes like half life with the narrative and gameplay i guess
bioshock 1 was beautiful story-wise, art-wise and audio-wise. the gameplay isn't exactly incredulous compared to some other FPS games, but it's very goddamn good compared to most modern FPSes.
bioshock 2 was less great and had an art style that wasn't to my taste which kind of disposed of that whole art-deco gone-broken style and instead went for a weird mix between realistic barnacle-encrusted and cartoonishly distorted. but it was still a very good game
infinite looks absolutely astounding asthetically and gameplay-wise, and if it's a flop i will blow my brains out.

I loved the storyline overall, but the controls for Bio 1 felt weird to me were the controls in Bio 2 felt more comfortable.
I have a hard time believing that the studio that decided late in development to dehumanize Little Sisters and hide the gruesome harvest process off-screen to avoid controversy is really going to be gritty and frank in its depiction of other themes. I remember being disappointed as hell that by removing all the visceral, emotional impact from harvesting Little Sisters, it went from a 'am I really going to do this awful thing' question to 'do I want more Adam now or more gifts later'.
Maybe they'll surprise me, but the Bioshock franchise has seemed too colorful and almost comical to me to really deal with Big Issues in a not ham-handed way.
Bioshock was a watered down version of System Shock 2. So I would not be surprised if this new Bioshock game doesn't take the exploration of mature themes to new heights.
