oh boy
Didn't watch much but holy hell that's funny. She's already out of breath... And I chuckled when she mentioned the over 60% obese, because.. She aint obese, she's fat. While I agree that being a chub is fine, fat people need to get on a treadmill and stop bitching about everyone else.
I'm really on the fence about this fat acceptance movement. I don't want to sound like a jerk, but a lot of overweight people don't have a genetic condition or whatever to explain for their weight and are fat because... well, they're either lazy, a glutton, or have no idea what a proper, healthy diet is. Why should I accept that? Why should I hold some form of respect for that?
I dunno, I'm probably not looking at it right/completely missing the point.
she said it's discrimination that people say that most fat people caused they're own obesity
I'm sorry, but the truth is not discriminatory
I work retail and I see a lot of obese people buying Soda by 3 or more 2 liter bottles. Part of me thinks they gave up in the first month of losing weight, that's not how you do it! I had a friend in High school, pretty big guy, not completely obese but he was pretty fat. Next time I see him is two years later and in College, dear lord he lost all his weight. He actually had a defined chin, completely different look to him and I'm sure he didn't give up in the first month of losing weight.
Some obese people have it genetically, but from what I see that is about 3% of the population because people gain weight by eating crap food and not exercising.
speaking as a fat guy here
I'm fat because I'm lazy and food is delicious (not the case for everyone though)
People making fun of fat people for being fat are pieces of shit, but that comes down to some people just being dicks. People shouldn't bully others for any reason, but we don't live in a perfect world. Fat people having to pay more for airline/bus/etc isn't discrimination, if you can't physically fit into one seat then you should have to pay for another seat.
Shit like this pisses me off. I maxed out around 245 pounds during early high school, life was miserable, not just because I was made fun of, but I just felt so unhealthy. Hard to breath, tired all the time, sweated like a fucking pig, couldn't do simple exercise because I just didn't have the strength, and girls didn't find me attractive. It was like I was sick all the time. I've lost 55~ since then and life couldn't be better. People need to take their health more seriously. It's okay to be comfortable with yourself, no need to have a "perfect" body, but being obese limits you and your enjoyment of every facet of life. You can't even comprehend how much you are limited until you escape from the troubles of obesity.

Actually saying this I feel like a pretentious asshole, but I posted this video to make fun of it

I knew that, but I wanted to post my thoughts on the whole thing.
Still a bad video though.

I don't see why you would need to be on the fence about the concept of "treat others with respect as long as they aren't hurting you". Everything you just said above could be tweaked to justify disrespect for marijuana users, people who drink booze, people who sit at the computer too long, so forth.
Besides, it's completely possible (and common) to be outside of the what the current accepted weight range in society is and still be healthy. (How many "fit" people you know spend all day lounging around, eating junk food, or otherwise doing "fat guy" things? Admit it, we all know a couple people like that - those people might weigh the perfect amount but they'll be less healthy than a fat person who eats reasonably and gets a moderate amount of exercise)
The whole point of the fat acceptance movement is to promote health and happiness over appearance, which when put down in words seems like common sense, but then we have people such as the OP who prove that common sense is a rare commodity.
"I can not become any* smaller than this, it is physically impossible"
lol fuck off
"Someone's weight is no indication of what type of person they are"
it can

You posted a community college class presentation video to make fun of it?
Really, are you serious?

My whole point was that someone who is overweight shouldn't demand extra-respect for their condition. I know there are people who do indeed have a genetic condition, but the people who are just too lazy/unmotivated to do something about it shouldn't go around waving "fat acceptance!! be proud of being lazy!" in people's faces.
I'm not saying people in a specific weight range are healthier then others. Skinny people, in many cases, are less healthy then those who are overweight. I don't think we should deem them fit, either.
Regardless, I agree with your general point. If they aren't doing anything exactly wrong then they don't deserve disrespect. Still, though, the message this video is sending off ("im fat and i can do stuff about it but don't want to, gibe respekt pls") isn't exactly an A+ moral.
I'd like to see her get on a treadmill for 1 hour a week, for one month, and not lose a single pound like she claims.
:)
I really dislike this whole fat acceptance movement. From what I've seen from it, they're just trying to justify being fat and continuing their unhealthy ways. Coming from someone who is overweight, I think it's okay to promote healthy lifestyles rather than just settling being fat, because overall it's unhealthy.
This is fucking retarded.
I was pretty fat last year and was gradually getting fat sophomore year. Last year I hit 215 and I had to do something. This girl I liked didn't like me and I knew it was because I was fat. So I did what I used to do in soccer where we run every day. I could barely do a mile the first day. Now I run 5 miles every day and I'm at 180. I finally have my fucking girlfriend, and I changed my diet.
Now I don't scarf down diet coke and skittles (gross, huh?). I can still have my sweets but something like honey on a banana. It was my fault for being fat, and I had to fix it because no one was going to do it for me.

The main idea of that video was that there is a lot of socially accepted ridicule for people who are overweight.
How is it demanding extra-respect when most of the video was about the various aspects of society that ridicule people who are fat?

oops?
The way I see it, if a person is fat, they know it, and are still happy with their life, let them be fat.
I hate how fat acceptance people say that it's ok to eat unhealthy foods and be fat, and 'be who you are', and at the same time cite that most people are fat due to their poverty or incredibly busy lives preventing from making good lifestyle choices, basically undermining social issues.

Im around 215 right now, been biking a fuckton lately, I aim to get back to 180 like I used to be.

On Wall Street it isn't uncommon for many first year bankers to dedicate their mornings to working out. Keep in mind that they're working around 100 hours a week on average.
It's ironic that often those who claim they can't find time for working out, have all the time in the world.
I love how Bam Margera's dad just pops up out of nowhere. Why would you put him on a slideshow promoting fat people? nobody cares about him.
It's hilarious how she just pulls random "statistics" out of nowhere, propagates the issue we have with the obsession of being thin meaning all fat people are bad. She puts one problem and claims it's another, she outright bullshits in front of everyone, I don't think I wouldn't have bursted out laughing if I had been there.
And don't get me wrong, I have fat friends, they're cool, but being fat isn't good, we should encourage people to not be fat(read:not be an asshole about it of course).
That's retarded
Oh, and she bring the interesting point, that fat guys are ridiculed less in the society. I wonder, does it have something to do with them not shouting I AM FAT I AM BEAUTIFUL LOVE ME?
I'm fat (I'm 6'2 so I don't look as big as I really am) and I hate this fat movement thing, these people need to die.
Honestly being fat is self inflicted, I've been there multiple times. I constantly go up and down in weight, its about motivation.
I thought she was called Emily Magnum
I'm fat, but at least I have the balls to admit it's my fucking fault.
psst! i am made of ham
