http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/11/03/study-medical-marijuana-does-not-increase-use-among-youth/
The legalization of medical marijuana in Rhode Island in 2006 did not increase its use among teenagers, according to research presented at the American Public Health Association Annual Meeting and Exposition on Wednesday. The study was led by Rhode Island Hospital physician Esther Choo. The finding directly contradicts White House drug czar Gil Kerlikowske’s claim that medical marijuana was to blame for the increase in marijuana use among teenagers. “If young people don’t really perceive that [marijuana] is dangerous or of any concern, it usually means there’ll be an uptick in the number of kids who are using. And sure enough, in 2009, that’s exactly what we did see,” Kerlikowske told ABC News Radio last year. “We have been telling young people, particularly for the past couple years, that marijuana is medicine. So it shouldn’t be a great surprise to us that young people are now misperceiving the dangers or the risks around marijuana.” The study was based on an analysis of 32,570 students from Rhode Island and neighboring Massachusetts using a self-report survey called the Youth Risk Behavioral Surveillance System. The study included surveys completed between 1997 and 2009. The use of medical marijuana has been legalized in 16 states and the District of Columbia, but not Massachusetts. By comparing the trends in adolescent marijuana use between Rhode Island and Massachusetts, the researchers found there were no significant differences in marijuana use between the state that had legalized medical marijuana and the state that had not. “Our study did not find increases in adolescent marijuana use related to Rhode Island’s 2006 legalization of medical marijuana,” Choo said. “However, additional research may follow future trends as medical marijuana in Rhode Island and other states becomes more widely used.”
Medical marijuana or not, those teens will get hold of it anyway.
Medical marijuana or not, those teens will get hold of it anyway.
It's easier to get than alcohol and that stuff isn't illegal to all ages.
This is true. I live in Los Angeles. No matter how easy it is to acquire a "doctor's recommendation" statement and letter, they are still clueless. This is fact as some doucheio I haven't talked to in years all of a sudden phoned me up at 4 AM the other night asking to buy some marijooana. I told him to "fuck off and get a doctor rec if you really are a patient like me, I haven't slept in ages."
If weed was legalized it would be alot better for our youth because we wouldn't have to deal with drug dealers anymore. I live in a suburb, and in this suburb I have 16 drug connections, all of them know where to get a gun for under $100 unregistered. They also have attempted to sell me cocaine, Oxycontin, and many other dangerous and addicting substances. I educated myself about the streets and drugs in general, not what I learned in fucking D.A.R.E. class. I am "straight edged" by definition except I smoke weed alot. I am a productive pothead in society who has goals and ambitions. I am sick and tired of these fuckwits who believe pot is the devil but alcohol and tobacco is safer and legal. Legalize, legalize, legalize, and i'm not preaching that its a herb either. Smoking anything is bad, but aslong as you bake/vaporize your marijuana it is potentially 100% safe. 0 deaths have been attributed to smoking weed, and it doesn't kill brain cells. I can go on for hours, I just don't understand why they turn a blind eye to all of the information and preach ignorance. Lobbying, morality, political and economic interest who knows why our governers are mentally challenged. And oh yeah fuck Harry Ainslinger who got his wife fucked by a blackman and took a crusade against cannabis.

I'm starting to think of the marijuana issue as like the prohibition. There are some many people using it, and the government is doing such a poor job of regulation, hopefully it will eventually become legalized. At least studies like this are getting medical marijuana is getting closer to being accepted.
I agree with you, but wish that you had formed a more..... civil, may be the term I am looking for, response.
Bluntly:v:, I am high and do not give a single living motherfuck.
Marijuana will be legalized, but not in its current form. The medicinal properties can easily be reformulated into a pill form, which would make everyone happy, since you'll get the benefits without people getting high.

You can't really get the effects of the drug without the high.
If i had a choice between weed pills or bud, I'd chose the bud.
Smoking is just more fun. I like to smoke in general but I would never touch a cigarette, they're pointless. Hooka sometimes but then it just gives me a headache.
o rly? is this news?
Medical Marijuana might not, but what about the simple marijuana?
Uh, I'm pro-legalization but that's kinda surprising. I'd really expect it to at least increase usage somewhat.
Uh, I'm pro-legalization but that's kinda surprising. I'd really expect it to at least increase usage somewhat.
It kinda goes to show that its still the people who would have smoked it anyway that smoke it
Uh, I'm pro-legalization but that's kinda surprising. I'd really expect it to at least increase usage somewhat.
Why? it's not like legalization actually increases usage. It's so strange people think that it does. It's harder to get a hold of alcohol for anyone under the age of 19 or 21 than it is to get a hold of illegal substances. Once they're legalized, they're under control. Banning reverses that. Also, with medicinal marijuana, it's not the easiest(it's pretty easy over 19) thing to get a hold of.

I support legalization and all but that statement makes zero sense to me.

I found it easier to get drugs than alcohol when i was like 15

Drugs were the easiest for me cause I could get them at school as well. But when I turned 16 I had plenty of 18 year old friends to get me alcohol. And now im 18 so it is easy as to get :v:
How is alcohol harder to get than drugs? That makes no sense. Of course there are drugs at parties too. I don't know, I've never known it to be hard to get alcohol.

Logging companies/Cotton industry. This is why Marijuana will never be legal because hemp paper and clothing is better and cheaper than their non hemp counterparts.
It bothers me that people refer to weed as a drug. Drugs are engineered chemically. Weed is grown. Fucking DARE and its bullshit propaganda.
