Supporter and opponents of Moldova's newly appointed cabinet of ministers are going to take to the streets in the capital Chisinau on Sunday and join forces in actions of protest. The opposition does not recognize the cabinet of Prime Minister Pavel Filip, which the parliament voted in on January 20, and it is pressing for an early parliamentary election.
Thousands-strong demonstration began in Chisinau on Wednesday when the opposition took its supporters to the streets in order to prevent the voting for the new cabinet by the parliamentary majority formed around the Democratic Party. As a result, the parliament had a six-minutes-long sprint-like voting for the cabinet and the candidate for the Prime Minister's position did not even have time to make public the programme of the new government. The oath of allegiance was taken in much the same haste, with some of the new ministers failing to get to the hall in time.
Being corrupt and defying democracy and transparency does not mean being European.
Hmmm.... Unreliable source!
So long as it doesn't BECOME russia, I am fine with it.
Here is another eastern european country with it's people in a frenzy of anger due to large scale government corruption and it's government using unconstitutional measures to solidify power.
This may sound like a far fetched thought but, after reading that short summary of what has happened, it seems that it may be another battleground for the EU, even more so because that it's so close to weak member states... If the PLDM, PD and PL conspired to launder millions of syndicate money all the while to benefit themselves, what the hell is the general prosecutor doing? (in my opinion, I think they might have been bribed as well...)
One thing is for certain, I think this powder keg of public anger may be ready to burst into full civil disobedience and possible government crackdowns.

Great Read, kinda explains why Moldova Goverment blames Russia for supporting protests tho, soo hip :v:
Ironically this could be Ukraine in next years, since exactly same thing is currently unraveling there.

Another point of view (note, yes I know the website sounds very "conspiracy theory"-like and such, I'm just adding it because it adds a somewhat different view):

Seems like a total clusterfuck to be honest.
I think the last few lines of this may be true.
Globalresearch is the epitome of fear-mongering bullshit sites with no credibility, so it shouldn't even be considered.
Nobody has the "the West's full support" in Moldova because fucking everyone in Moldova is corrupt to the bones. This also explains your question of why the general prosecutor is doing nothing.
Honestly, never expect any kind of logic from Moldovan politics or business and blaming or even trying to connect "the West" to everything is just cheap.

Yeah, Ukraine is similar to Moldova in it's politics and general attitude, just slightly better. Wouldn't be surprised if something similar would happen there as well because turns out the guys who promised change can't do shit when everybody else keeps on doing things the old way.

So basically Moldova is screwed regardless of whatever comes out of these protests and not much can be done to de-escalate the situation?
Seems like it might actually end up like Ukraine all over again.
Well at this point Moldova's saving grace might as well be Romania walking in and pretending they're Romania again. These guys are so corrupt, weak, and incapable that they weren't able to take back Transnitria. And Transnitria makes Moldavia look good.
Yeah it's pretty heated up around here. This Sunday's protest march went past my window and lasted for a whole half an hour before I saw the end of the procession.
But it's hard to imagine something will change even if they do announce elections and we vote for someone else. I don't even know who to vote for. At least when you guys choose the lesser evil you can assume your country will remain at the existing level of sanity our country doesn't even feel a wiff of.
Isn't it exilirating, everything gets done so quickly, there is no debate because every position is uniform, its a marvel of efficiency!
Who cares that someone might not be qualified for their post or that there wasn't even a second spared for the representatives to voice their opinions?
I guess it also doesn't help Moldava has a lower human development rate than some African nations.

We are in an economic boom, corruption being tackled, and thing seem to be going well. What should we do to keep it?
Oh yeah, let's unite with a failed state that's also the poorest state in Europe, corruption levels similar to what we had like 20 years ago, and a part of it's population being russophiles that would make problems. Yeah, no thanks.

Unfortunately Moldova only exists because of Stalin, it should have been part of Romania.

That may be so, but as far as I understand it the population mostly identifies as seperate from Romania - they want their own country. Therefore whatever politics they choose OUGHT to be decided by the populace. Even if that is pro-russian. Unfortunately, corruption has a tendency of sticking around, or showing up under a different guise. I'm a romanian citizen, and Moldova does have some things that would benefit Romania, but at this point I'm not sure it would overall be of benefit. Perhaps in the long run.
