Next week, it's time to say goodbye to the Planet Express crew once again, as Comedy Central airs the final episode of Futurama. It's been a long road for Matt Groening and David X. Cohen's animated series, which first aired on FOX from 1999-2003, was then revived as several straight to DVD movies and finally got a full resurrection on Comedy Central that lasted for four years.
We've got an exclusive first look for you at a clip from the final episode, airing next Wednesday, as Fry and Leela discover something is very wrong with, well, everyone else...
it's not fox owned anymore
it's viacom.
I love Futurama, but I personally felt a little let down by the newer episodes than the older ones. They were great, but not as good. I hope they get picked up by Netflix or something so thy can keep making more stuff.
Also, am I the only one who doesn't find American Dad so bad compared to Family Guy? The writing seems to be considerably better than Family Guy's is at this point.

I know. I was simply saying fuck you to family guy and american dad.
I dont understand why Seth MacFarlane can have like a million shows on the air, all revolving around the same schtick and occasionally even used as just a tool to push political agenda; but Futurama can't stick around

To be honest, Simpsons has been around for what seems like my entire lifetime now and they've been making jibes about the US political scene far longer than McFarlane has.
As a fan of the show, I think it's time it goes away. There isn't really any more to cover than it becoming a "slice of life" show which will inevitably rehash storylines and ideas from the older episodes before it.
End it while it's on their own terms.

The strange thing about this is that in quite a few interviews, the writing team still say that they have a lot of stories to still tell, but it seems that while it is a big hit with the section of the viewing public, it doesn't seem to be clicking with the vast majority and that decisions to axe the series like this are mostly due to profitability and costs reasons more than anything else. Maybe FOX keeps Simpsons going because it's also generating a lot of income through merchandise and things, but Futurama isn't popular enough to have that going for it.
In the end, I think the series still has a lot of potential to go on before it becomes stale, but it's getting shafted by execs looking at the bottom line before it has a chance to grow.

The Simpsons writers also insist that they have a million more stories to tell and the show is better than ever

But as a counterpoint, the Simpsons has had almost, what, 20 odd years on the air whereast the Futurama has had something like 7. The Futurama universe still has the potential to be expanded a lot more than the Simpsons can at this point so I would still lean towards giving the Futurama writers the benefit of the doubt when thry do say that they many stories to tell.
Maybe they'll revive it again later?
I will wait.

look comedy cenctrals mechanics about what gets axed and what doesn't is all about who's on the show.
ugly Americans, futurama, axed. brickleberry, rated worse than bevis and butthead, renewed because the idiot tosh is producing it. I mean its getting like a 2 on every rating matrix , that's no way to justify its return
Maybe long after we all die there will be a revival episode in the year 3000.

All I want is closure to Fry and Leela's relationship to know what bender's letter meant.
i want to fucking murder both family guy and american dad
Meh, the recent Futurama stuff just wasn't that great and I could even feel that Seth Mcfarlane style political agenda pushing at times.
The episodes from the older seasons were the best ones in my opinion.

IIRC McFarlane has wanted to stop Family guy for ages, but Fox keeps pushing him, he hasn't even written an episode since season 4, just wants to drive it into the ground

The end of Luck of the Fryish was worse imho.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that by leaving The Cleveland Show out, you actually have something much worse in store for it.
The Cleveland Show, oh god. That's such a bad show.

I just could never get over how everyone's voices were slightly different, like the pitch was slightly higher.

Futurama is much better than family gays.
Please Dont die futurama :(
if they revive it I hope there's a 1-2 year delay to give them time as a break to make new stuff
if they don't, I feel its close to an end. South parks going to get there too eventually. The new episodes of that don't have the 'charm' behind it, same with south park.
I like family guy and american dad, its not meant to be serious storytellers ya know.
but futurama is fucking awesome, its an shame is has to go but the later episodes were getting dry.
Better to end it then run it into the ground.

I honestly dont see no decay in South Park.

its really really slow but there
they don't have the same meaning behind episodes as older ones generally did. But they're still pretty good.
