Dave Matthews Band, sometimes shortened to DMB, is an American jam band formed in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1991. Founding members include singer-songwriter and guitarist Dave Matthews, bassist Stefan Lessard, violinist Boyd Tinsley, and drummer Carter Beauford. Saxophonist LeRoi Moore, a founding member, was part of the band until his death in August 2008. His spot is now occupied by Grammy Award-winner Jeff Coffin, of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones fame. With band members who each have roots in differing genres, including jazz, classical music, soul music, and Afrobeat, the combination of each member has created a sound which has earned them fans from a variety of quarters.
The band is known for their annual summer-long, nationwide tours featuring lengthy improvisational renditions of their songs accompanied by elaborate video and lighting. They have sold over 31 million units in the United States alone, putting them in the Top 100 highest selling music acts of all time. The band's newest album, Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King debuted at number one on Billboard 200, giving the band their fifth consecutive number one debut.
The band is a multi-Grammy Award winner, and was awarded the NAACP Chairman's Award. According to Julian Bond, "they sell out the largest arenas on Earth, but frequently give their music away."

Being one of the top 100 highest selling music acts of all time, they have 7 studio albums, all of them have gone Platinum at least once, usually more than once. While they only have 7 studio albums, they have over 25 singles from all combined, that's impressive for any band. But where Dave Matthews Band is really known is for live performances of their songs. They often improvise the intros and outros of their songs to give each a fresh feel. You never know what song they are starting unless it is off of a new album and they don't improvise it.
The band currently has 9 live albums, which span from 1997 to 2008. One way they became popular is by allowing fans to record their live performances, allowing them to plug directly into the mixer to get audio from the mics. This lead to their music being spread everywhere across the world, making them an international success. Eventually this had to stop due to money loss, but that is what largely made them famous.
Let's go over the members, shall we?
Dave Matthews
Dave Matthews is the leading man behind the driving force that is the Dave Matthews Band. As the primary writer and singer of the band, he gives a lot into the end picture. He is known largely for his amazing live performances, he has never once been known to lipsync, and his live performances sound like he does in the studio. He largely plays the guitar but in some songs can be seen playing a piano.
Boyd Tinsley
Boyd Tinsley is the violinist for Dave Matthews Band, he also plays the mandolin, but largely plays the violin. In some songs can be seen doing backing vocals. He has also collaborated for lyrics with Dave Matthews before.
Stefan Lessard
Stefan Lessard is the bassist for Dave Matthews Band. Along with the bass, he also plays the Slide Bass, Piano, Hammond Organ, Dobro, Electric Guitar. But never plays any in the Dave Matthews Band.
Carter Beauford
Carter Beauford is the founding member and drummer of Dave Matthews Band. He is known for his live solos during live shows. He is also known for playing ambidextrously, using both hands as lead hands for beats. He commonly leads the hi-hat with his left hand, only switching to normal style when playing the ride cymbal. In 2003 he won the award for Best Pop Drummer Modern by Modern Drummers.
Now let's take a look at some of their most popular songs performed live.

Different people like different music, you can't expect everyone to conform to your lifestyle, except for christians and prop 8.
All of their songs sound the same.

Try and compare Crash to Squirm. And Two Step to Why I Am.
They're great. And the new album completely blew my expectations.
Only hippies and gay people listen to Dave Matthews. He's an egotistical prick and his music isn't even good or unique in style

I didn't like him that much
Ahahaha, Dave Matthews suck.
You know how I know you're gay?

I don't drive a Jeep, nor do I wear khaki pants. I don't refer to the band as DMB in real life. And I don't do drugs, I'm not a hippie.
Infact, nobody I know that listens to them fits into that stereotype. Only people that go to Woodstock do.

But you're still a closeted homosexual, as are all of your friends. Congrats, you've found what I refer to as a niche community.

Uhm, no, I am not in the closet, and I only have one gay friend.
I really like Funny the Way it Is and one other song that I don't remember the name of by them, but besides that they're kinda meh in my opinion.
DMB have released one album and then just re-released that same album for the past fuck knows how many years and the idiots still buy his shit music.

It's called exxagerating, ever done it? Even then, that's still only 15 people.
I love these guys :D
Edit:
GRAVEDIGGER WHEN YOU DIG MY GRAVE
Yeah I love DMB too. Ants marching :D My mom actually got to see them and talk to dave while they were just coming on and doing small performances.
I'll just leave it at this. DMB is like that thing that so many people like, yet no one will admit to liking because it's really not that good.
Ants Marching is a great song.
I love DMB but I have a friend who has a disgusting obsession for his music. He has every single song by him that was released even live. and talks about him all the time. When my friend showed me a song by him , it took me a while to get into it. But after listenin to 3 songs I started liking the dmb. my favorite is #42
the latest dmb cd Big Wisky and the GrooGrux King is really good.
