:tinfoil: Okay so it's not about to cause any harm from remote hackers but it's still very interesting. Edit: it's called "Stuxnet" not "Stuxnext" as the video on Youtube was titled
My mom (who works for the government *cough*hack*cough*) gave me the lowdown on how badass this code is. Fucking amazing shit.
Already knew everything in the video, still, an interesting watch none the less.
I was waiting it to say "Iran has the 2nd largest online army, the first is the hacking group Anonymous."
Never knew you could download the stuxnet source code. Guess I found something to kill my boredom.
I'm tempted to go be Dr. Evil with this.
The structure of the virus doesn't sound much different from the ones in the wildness of the internet, However as said, stuxnext is a weapon, It's obviously been made by the USA and possibly their buttbuddy israel. Because no one else invests money on these things, And more importantly the information, the registeries, the programs that the nuclear powerplants use are not available to anyone. They obviously do this to prevent terrorism. One could start working on something similiar, However this is obviously a group effort, Because one person can't get their hands on all this information. Obviously the best way to get any information like this is to work for a company which manifactures some of this stuff, But one person can't have all the legit papers which are required in high level security jobs, So one person wouldn't be able to get all the information necesary for creating this kind of virus The zero day attacks are everyday business, And so is the stolen "clearance" as they say. If you buy something funky from china you might get a chip virus or just a basic highlevel trojan. And everything's manifactured there, So it's basically up to the manifacturer to make sure no dickhead will try to put something funky in soon-to-be your electronics. This is definetly no work of criminals, Because of the political interests, This is not work of the terrorists, Because they lack the knowledge, And prety much every other country lacks the resources and interest for this stuff than the USA. So why can't they just say it? Even though it's not been confirmed for obvious reasons.
Open source viruses? Download link, now.

[editline]9th June 2011[/editline] And it's stupid to say that terrorism cannot be political.
wow whoever created this is fucking amazing not in the way that he was shutting down powerplants, but the fact that he spent so much on zero days
Iran has Enrichment Facilities?
Must be some kind of bored billionaire who made this.
Realtek? Pfffhh I got d-link. Come at me hackers.
"Well, we just built our nuclear missile launchpad. It's completely secure." "Good job! Now connect it to the internet so I can play Black Ops! :v:" Why exactly do things of that nature get connected to the internet in a way the public can access them?

Good thing I have nothing of value on this computer to people of this caliber.
Don't they connect such facilities to isolated networks that aren't public?
Yep, all computers that control anything important is on a 100% closed network, only way a virus can get in is by hardware( flash drives, cd's, diskettes if you're feeling nostalgic)
Stuxnet infects PLCs by subverting the Step-7 software application that is used to reprogram these devices.[8]
That's amazing, to say the least.
And the software is brought on hardware, not distributed over a network.
dont worry ive got mcafee
Shit, it can evolve itself thanks to people who download it? this shit is strong.
The amount of planning that went into this must be incredible. All these zero days, do they necessarily mean that the hacker who created it discovered every exploit for the sole purpose of this virus?
I wonder if I would get banned by providing the download link. But I won't knowing that someone on here might end the world as we know it. They just had to spend 2 million dollars on the black market to find out those 20 zero days.
The original, untouched executable is here. http://tuts4you.com/download.php?view.3011 It will infect your system if you run it, don't download it unless you know what you're doing.
wow whoever created this is fucking amazing not in the way that he was shutting down powerplants, but the fact that he spent so much on zero days
Not all zero-days would cost that much. The designer could've even discovered a few himself, due to the highly-targeted nature of the attack. If the code was looking for a Megasupergizmothing centrifuge, attached to an embedded computer system by Bob Loblaw's Super-awesome industrial controllers, then it should really narrow down the amount of stuff to poke around for holes/exploits. If it was some country's government that was behind all this, they would have no trouble finding a person capable of doing it.

I've got norton, can I get hacked or anythin'?
