http://think-squad.com/post/128800839680/microsoft-is-downloading-windows-10-to-your
An INQUIRER reader pointed out to us that, despite not having ‘reserved’ a copy of Windows 10, he had found that the ~BT folder, which has been the home of images of the new operating system since before rollout began, had appeared on his system. He had no plans to upgrade and had not put in a reservation request. He told us: “The symptoms are repeated failed 'Upgrade to Windows 10’ in the WU update history and a huge 3.5GB to 6GB hidden folder labelled ’$Windows.~BT’. I thought Microsoft [said] this 'upgrade’ was optional. If so, why is it being pushed out to so many computers where it wasn’t reserved, and why does it try to install over and over again?
I've seen the files myself on 7 Pro…
Nevermind, missed a part of the article.
Pushing pretty hard on the Windows 10 thing to avoid another XP-situation out of 7, it seems.
Wish I could get it but Windows 10 REALLY doesn't like my Graphics card
Wow. I was wondering why my net was so flipping slow last night and my SSD was suddenly full, i am severely disappointed... Microsoft have completely overstepped their bounds this time.
I wouldn't mind getting w10 if it wasn't an incompatible piece of shit. I would say it's illegal for them to download without concent, but knowing companies nowadays it's probably made OK somewhere on the EULA with the help of lawyer black magic.

Why would it be? And no, win10 is not "incompatible piece of shit".
It's only if you have automatic updates on though. They're completely in their right, though they may not be right.
Pushing pretty hard on the Windows 10 thing to avoid another XP-situation out of 7, it seems.
Good. The fact that XP went on for six years before a successor came along just made people complacent. Moving on from it since has been an incredible pain in the ass and there's still a significant chunk of people still on it, despite how utterly archaic it is nowadays.
if it wasn't an incompatible piece of shit.
With what? I've been using it since a month or so before release I have not found anything that is incompatible.
With what? I've been using it since a month or so before release I have not found anything that is incompatible.
ive heard issues with graphics cards and stuff
With what? I've been using it since a month or so before release I have not found anything that is incompatible.
Maybe I exaggerated a bit, I must admit. I don't have w10 myself, but my roomie (who is an avid gamer) has had almost only trouble with it.
What the fuck? This better not be happening on my end.
Maybe I exaggerated a bit, I must admit. Sometimes something comes up but it's usually a simple fix like run as administrator.
Explains why my the few precious gigabytes left on my tiny ssd c:\ drive are running out [editline]10th September 2015[/editline] and I can't even delete the folder either, wtf.
Ah this was driving me nuts. Was setting up a new laptop yesterday and I couldn't figure out how to postpone this download. My net's shit enough as is.
If you're holding out on 10 you're doing yourself a disservice, 10 is fast and compatible with 99% of things 7 and 8 are. I'm totally ok with Microsoft trying to rid the consumer world of old operating systems.

I'm personally waiting here on 8 for a while longer. No real benefit atm for me to move up.
Checkmate, Microsoft. I haven't run Windows Update in 3 years.
Thats not safe. You should at least install the security ones
I too have a C:\$Windows.~BT folder. But there's no .ESD file in sight, and the total file size is a couple hundred KB. It was made October 11, 2014, probably when I first gave the early Win10 TP builds a try. I haven't reserved an upgrade. Auto updates are disabled because auto updates to the core of your system are a shitty idea
Thats not safe. You should at least install the security ones
What are they gonna do, steal my identity? It's not like I'm important anyway. Destroy my credit? I don't have any. Take my money? I have none of that either.
What are they gonna do, steal my identity? It's not like I'm important anyway. Destroy my credit? I don't have any. Take my money? I have none of that either.
Having viruses in your PC isn't exactly a cool thing anyway.

Was wondering why I had that folder, and why my internet was bogging for a while. I'm fine with going for Windows 10 and all, but I'd rather wait for the kinks to be fixed before upgrading. Would prefer Microsoft to chill out about this, especially since I'd like to wait till I get a new PC till I get Windows 10.
How do I delete the folder? It's sucking up 6 gigs of my precious SSD space.
look microsoft i WANT to install windows 10 but not with the motherboard i currently have and on a clean install, hold your shit

And if you have enough money to pay an internet bill then you have money worth stealing.
I don't usually say this, but... can it be the Year Of The Linux Desktop soon? Pretty please?
