Hello all you lovely MS Paint users!
This thread is for all you artists who want to improve!
Every week I shall post a new challenge for anyone who wants to improve their drawing, who wants a challenge or just for those who want to practice! :allears:
I will give you a challenge in two or more parts each week.
Constructive criticism is VERY VERY welcome because we are here to improve!
There are a couple of rules:
-no flaming, trolling, 2 second shit
-no saying something is shit without carefully explaining why
-You need to complete at least one part to post! :)
Tiny bonus:
-You can rate the ones you like best (1 or more :) )winner
-The one with most winner ratings wins.
-This is just a small bonus, because this is not actually a competition but a way to improve :)
1st, 2nd CHALLENGES HAVE ENDED; part 3 on page 3
So with no further babbling:
Part 1:

You get to pick where the light source is! What fun!
Part 2:
Draw one or more of these hands:

Hands will probably be in every weeks challenge, but I started easy this week and next week I'll add bodies too :)
Edit: This challenge ends on 1st December, at 12 am CET. (GMT+1)
Heh, I love drawing hands. And I'm at my grandparents, so I have a mouse to use.
I'll get to work on this pretty soon.
This really is a good idea, I'll take a look at it tommorow.

I think it's going pretty good. I'm gonna shade and clean up next. Self updating.
For the light source one, does it have to be that tree?

Sorry if I'm not too much help, this is my first time giving someone CC, but here you go anyways.

that's the most in-depth CC I've seen in a long while, keep at it like that.
I like where this series is going, keep it up! I'll consider this an official thread and enforce the rules strictly to ensure things go smoothly in the series.

Yes, I wanted to include a tree because I see a lot of people don't know how to draw it. You don't have to draw that many branches it's just a reference :)

I love you now.
I like the idea of this thread, if I'm not busy I'll have a go at this myself.

super unpolished :buddy:
Some of the branches could use some work as it almost seems like a whole new tree is growing out of a tree growing out of a tree. I really like the way you've done the smaller branches with the spray can tool.

Horribly done :D
I will work on the hand.
Edit:
I give up on the hands, I can't even come close xD
Ah, you've used the brushes in Win 7 paint. :frown:
Ah, you've used the brushes in Win 7 paint. :frown:
Sorry, Is that against the rules.. :( I can't even get close to doing the hands ne way...
Well, we use MS Paint or Win7 paint without the brushes because it AAs your stuff, you don't want that as pixel artist, and it would mean you need much less effort drawing something good.
If you use Win7 paint, try to avoid the brush tool, use pencil tool instead. You may however still use the spray can.
is it ok to use paint.net, as the otherversion ive got is the crappy win7 version.. i wont use any fx, i just like its user friendlieness (spelling?) and unlimited "undo"s

Will probably added some more details later...I guess
looks great Azfar90, but im obsessing about the index finger kind of looking like its holding a small marble, not really CC maybe, just me obsessing. again great work on everything, the shading looks perfect and the hand really looks lifelike.

That honestly looks pretty good, the only thing I have at the moment to say is that the picture lacks depth, try over lapping the base of the fingers slightly.

I think if you did people would like it if you could use a non anti-alsed mode, if there is one, since that's the whole reason people ask you to not use win 7 brushes

You're right, do you think I should thin the outer branches, maybe delete some of them?

Heavy Wip. I have to tweak the second finger from the left, It's just horrible. What about the black lines? do they fit?

There's a bunch of other stuff, but you're in heavy WIP stage. Sorry for the cluster-fuck of colors.

I don't know if this qualifies.
I think I failed on the tree...

I think color contrast between the bright one you have in the middle and the rest is too dramatic. I would just get rid of bright streak in the middle. Also, focus more on where your light source is coming from.

I tried to figure where the light source was coming from here. It seems you have it coming from the foreground in the top right. However, the lighting on the tree deviates in two key places.
1. This branch is a little too lit up. My suggestion to fix this is to put breaks in the light along the branch to show bumps. The broken light source will let the viewer know that the source is shining at it sidelong, rather than making it seem completely on top.
2. The light source is twisting too far along the right of the branch. Keep it centered so that it will help the illusion of the light coming from the top right foreground, where the rest of the lighting matches.
Over all, I would say this is a good start. Keep working on it.
[editline]26th November 2010[/editline]
Another suggestion I have for you is to figure out the shape of your tree in three dimensions. Figure out where the branches cross over each other in terms of lighting, and make shadows from the higher branches cross over the lower ones. This will give your drawing so much more depth. Also, I notice you have an outline on this tree. Nothing in reality has a solid outline around it. See what you can do about that.
I feel like I did a little better, but not much. It self updates.

The color contrast looks much better, but it still looks just a tiny bit too shiny. I'm also not certain where the light source is.
I love the color palette, but yeah, the brightest one needs stripped.
