Schumacher suffered a ski accident 14 weeks ago and is in the waking up process after being placed in a medically induced coma, with Sabine Kehm offering an encouraging update regarding his condition. "Michael is making progress on his way," said Kehm in a statement. "He shows moments of consciousness and awakening. We are on his side during his long and difficult fight, together with the team of the hospital in Grenoble, and we keep remaining confident. "We would like to thank you all for the continuous sympathies. At the same time we again ask for understanding that we do not intend to disclose details. "This is necessary to protect the privacy of Michael and his family, and to enable the medical team to work in full calmness." Schumacher remains unable to breathe on his own and is on a ventilator. Doctors began the process of gradually awakening him more than nine weeks ago. Go Schumi! You can do it!
Good luck, though I doubt you will ever race again.
Good luck, though I doubt you will ever race again.
He might be needed to re-learn everything. Who knows.
God I hope he survives. F1 Driver as a career, survive it for ages only to die to such a shit little accident just doesn't do him justice. :c
Yeeeees!!
Good luck, though I doubt you will ever race again.
He was done racing anyway.
He was done racing anyway.
Didn't he retire once and then come back?
Didn't he retire once and then come back?
Ye but it was a failed attempt tho.
Didn't he retire once and then come back?
He stopped for the second time in 2012
Would have been great if he woke up before this years season started. I hope he'll be fully recovered until the end of this season at least.
Waking up from a coma is something that sounds so odd. I sort of want to experience it, though I know I shouldn't.
Schumacher was my childhood hero, I really really want him to come back from this
Would have been great if he woke up before this years season started. I hope he'll be fully recovered until the end of this season at least.
There's a chance he won't even remember who he is.
Outracing death
He was done racing anyway.
guys like schumi never fully stop racing. he participates in charity event races n stuff and still rides motorcycles too i believe [editline]4th April 2014[/editline] or well i mean he used to
Guys I got it, wake him up by putting his bed next to the track as a full race of F1s shoot by at full throttle. Nobody can sleep through that.

imagine only awakening from a coma once per year on the summer solstice but you didn't age
Everyone is routing for Schumacher. I hope he makes a full recovery
There's a chance he won't even remember who he is.
With the brain, you never know. Depending on where most of the damage resides, he could even suffer from major personality alterations and become a completely different man from what his fans and family know him as.
"He shows moments of consciousness and awakening." That really can mean anything and nothing. There are so many weasel words in that statement it's amazing that's the statement they approved. What is a 'moment' in their definition? What constitutes 'awakening'? Maybe it's true he's getting better but come on!

Phew. Thank Goodness.

Are reactions like this better than nothing at all? At least he's in the news again, nice to see the world keeping updated on his situation. Hope he can resume a semi-normal lifestyle after this
Didn't he retire once and then come back?
He retired in '07, then came back for a couple seasons. Mercedes GP couldn't field a car worth a fuck so he said "Screw it I'm still the most successful motherfucker to ever race in Formula 1, off to the slopes I go!".
guys like schumi never fully stop racing. he participates in charity event races n stuff and still rides motorcycles too i believe [editline]4th April 2014[/editline] or well i mean he used to
He only got back in the car recently because he was bored and wanted something to do. He was in the unique sort of position where getting in a racecar was something to pass the time, not a serious affair. He had more money than god in the bank account, seven figures still coming in, seven world championships in the trophy cabinet...there really wasn't much of anything left for him to do anymore. MAAYYBBE a triple crown, but AFAIK only Jim Clark has ever won one of those. 'Tis why he retired again. Mercedes GP was giving him terrible cars and he just said "Fuckit these cars are terrible I'm going back to the ski lodge." [editline]4th April 2014[/editline]
Maybe with the V8's, but the new engines probably wouldn't stir him.
Eh, rip all the yuppietastic eco-crap off and let the teams turn the boost up to 30 or 40 PSI for a lap. That'd get the noise up.

Maybe it's true he's getting better but come on!
Regardless ANY kind of activity is a good sign. When one of my best friends was in a coma after a nasty fall and partially severing his brainstem hearing that he made a GROAN was probably the happiest moment of my life. Despite all odds being against him though he made a full recovery and now has a cool titanium plate in his face.
