Russian lawmakers are suing Ukraine in an international court for approximately $1 billion–an amount lawmakers feel is reasonable compensation for the suffering caused to Russian citizens. Lawmakers of Russia’s Duma have asked Russia’s Investigative Committee to supply material evidence on Ukraine’s shelling of Russia’s Rostov region. The lawmakers plan to also use evidence gathered from local residents of Rostov in their suit, reportedly. Lawmaker Roman Khudyakov (LDPR) said that he believed the sum was fair compensation for the suffering caused to Russian citizens. Khudyakov factored the number of Russian victims into the calculation. “More than once has our territory been shelled,” stated Khudyakov. “People have been killed and wounded, and many Russians have suffered damage to their property. The neighboring nation must be brought to justice for these crimes, and the international community ought to provide an assessment of [Ukraine's] actions. We believe that the shelling was deliberate. The foreign ministry has expressed criticism about the shelling of Russian territory in the past, and demanded that the actions cease. This is frighteningly close to the kind of deal I'd make with a civilization in Civ 5 just before taking their last city
It's funny how fitting that quote is for Ukraine's situation if you swap out the countries. Hypocrites.
Role reversal and apply to Crimea. Fuck off Putin.
The whole point is that Putin is making a demand that Ukraine can not possibly fulfill in it's current state so it can justifiably take land.
Why does Pootin' have to be such an ass-backwards dude who makes the rest of Russia look bad as well.
Okay, thats one more to add to the list. Putin is a criminal crybaby who also happens to be an extreme asshole.

if they didnt want their towns shelled by rebels maybe they shouldnt have riled up a war then
It's funny because artillery inside Russia has shelled Ukraine
Russians will justify this damn it wasted my 10000 post on this
We believe that the shelling was deliberate.
Is there a type of shelling that isn't?
Is there a type of shelling that isn't?
*boom* "Gregori, cyka what are you doing?" "Sorry vlad, i tripped and acidentally dropped a shell into the mortar tube"
Is there a type of shelling that isn't?
The Russian village which got shelled was called donetsk, so it could be someone who is REALLY bad at reading maps. [editline]9th September 2014[/editline] Didn't Russia sue Ukraine for the gas as well? Between this, the loans and the cost of repairing after all this Ukraine will be in a terrible state.
Wow man, attacking another country, annexing part of it's territory and then suing them for damages. That takes some big brass balls mate, some fucking titanic cajones. With the way things are going, it really seems just so surreal to me. It's like a really bad match of Civ V just falling into an even more awry state of madness.
Russians will justify this damn it wasted my 10000 post on this
Yet another war crime Putin will have to answer for.
With the way things are going, it really seems just so surreal to me. It's like a really bad match of Civ V just falling into an even more awry state of madness.
If it was a novel I'd think it was bad fiction.
Is there a type of shelling that isn't?
The kind that Russia is doing apparently.
The kind that Russia is doing apparently.
Russian soldiers are just very clumsy is all.
Justice.
Between this, the loans and the cost of repairing after all this Ukraine will be in a terrible state.
Yeah, Russia already accomplished their goal of breaking Ukraine, now they're just being assholes.
If the EU gives Ukraine money for the war effort it's really giving Russia money for its war effort. Such is life in Soviet Union

It's like a really bad match of Civ V just falling into an even more awry state of madness.
Dunno if this is Putin's way of saying "We don't care anymore" or if he seriously expects the international community to enforce Russia's claims, whilst simultaneously expecting no one to enforce claims against his war crimes.
Is there any reason why Ukraine can't sue Russia?
Waste of time, plus a number of chief Russian diplomats are already banned from many European nations (which would be used as a sanction should Russia fail to adhere to a court judgements) Russia is not alone though: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicaragua_v._United_States [editline]9th September 2014[/editline]
The United States refused to participate in the proceedings after the Court rejected its argument that the ICJ lacked jurisdiction to hear the case. The U.S. later blocked enforcement of the judgment by the United Nations Security Council and thereby prevented Nicaragua from obtaining any actual compensation.

Is there any reason why Ukraine can't sue Russia?
No proof, waste of time, not acting logically. Also that would let a real internation ivnestigation to commense and Kiyv sure doesn't want anyone finding anything out. Not saying Putin did nothing wrong, but if somebody digs into this whole shit they would find enough about both rebels and Ukrainian officials.
