Here's the new trailer 2015 is going to be the year when we start seeing things really come together.
i'm still super skeptical about it. you can say "it's still in progress!" all you want but so far all we've seen is a bunch of features implemented in very mediocre, maybe even amateurish ways what i've heard from most old-school space-sim players, and elite dangerous players, is that the flight mechanics are very lackluster at this point and what we've seen of the fps and rpg elements of the game look weak maybe they'll somehow pull it together but i'm worried that they haven't identified a core mechanic to nail down. it's all well and good being an rpg fps flight-sim but if every aspect is mediocre then the whole game will be mediocre. i prefer the way that elite dangerous has gone about it - they still have plans for fps and stronger rpg mechanics but at least the core of the game, the space flight and combat, is super solid
the design work for this game is so goddamn good Even if the game itself somehow collapses into a pile of disappointment and failure, it'll be worth it just to walk through all those ships.
"Use your imagination and buy our game"... that way when it's a disappointing pile of wank you can't say it's our fault, because we didn't actually promise anything.
People have no idea what the development of Star Citizen is like. Just like every thread.
Maaaannn I can't wait.
The shot at 1:12 is great
How is a trailer news?
How is a trailer news?
Well I got a press release and it's showing off a lot of new planetside module assets.
yes its unlike that of any other videogame out there star citizen is the most unique game on earth you know some people making fun of star citizens dumb ad campaigns are making games themselves right? (spoiler first poster is making an indie game set to release on various devices)
Good for him? His failure to know anything about SC's dev is in no way related to his profession. It also isn't unique at all, which is why its dev is taking time. Because you know. Game development takes time.
When is this supposed to come out? Not sure whether to buy it or not
When is this supposed to come out? Not sure whether to buy it or not
2015 late persistent universe beta (with FPS, planetside integration), single player campaign in 2015 as well 2016 release for the persistent universe MMO
People have no idea what the development of Star Citizen is like. Just like every thread.
i've been following it since day1. i even backed the kickstarter way back when and i make video games for a living. but yeh rate me dumb and get defensive about your precious video game

The FPS mechanics look really interesting though. Also remember, there's modding so if they don't get it right, someone will.
2015 late persistent universe beta (with FPS, planetside integration), single player campaign in 2015 as well 2016 release for the persistent universe MMO
Well I just went and bought the Aurora MR Anniversary Pack, can't wait for release!

Honestly, I'm really pleased with the flight model and the dogfighting module so far.
It also isn't unique at all, which is why its dev is taking time. Because you know. Game development takes time.
it's nothing to do with it "taking time" - they can take 20 years on it for all i care. it's the fact that, from what i have seen, it looks like they're going about things the completely wrong way like i said in my first post, they're making a bunch of massive mediocre systems. they need to nail down a core mechanic and perfect that first, but instead it seems like they have over-stepped their mark, probably due to massive funding, and they've made a bunch of pretty lackluster stuff like i said in my first post, elite dangerous just released and they've got a superbly good space flight simulator and combat game. yes they started development a few months before star citizen, but they are in a position now where they can release their fps and rpg modules to the game and, even if they are mediocre as shit, they've still got a very solid flight-sim core to the game and i can't help but notice that star citizen is being made across two different continents by a multitude of teams, something which has been dire for recent big-budget titles, most notably anything developed/published by ubisoft

They've released a spaceflight sim with dogfighting and trading, but there's still no progression outside of "get money to buy a better ship" in infinite recursion. There's no semblance of a story or lore outside of the big gamemaster-controlled events, and even that's mainly presented outside of the game itself. There's no point to the massive system, since everything's either exactly the same or completely barren. It's a great space sim, probably the best on the re-emerging market, but the gamier elements need work. Actually, it's kind of like they focused so much on one feature that they forgot everything else until almost the last moment. We can draw parallels all day.
Lol, Elite Dangerous players calling the flight mechanics lackluster.
i dunno i'm no expert but one of the guys i heard say star citizen handles like shit is a dude who's a physicist so
Can we call Elite: Dangerous a game in any proper sense yet, though?
i dunno i'm no expert but one of the guys i heard say star citizen handles like shit is a dude who's a physicist so [editline]20th December 2014[/editline] this is quite fair but as far as i know there are conflicts to choose a side on (between three super-power entities?) and set missions to do with some sort of progression still that's a much better start than "spend real money to buy virtual spaceships. fight i guess?" i'd rather have an amazing galaxy to fly around and good flight mechanics and some sort of economy and shipyard to advance through in-game than... nothing
tbf chesty if physicists designed space games, there'd be no dogfighting, there'd be no relativistic travel would be kinda boring
i dunno i'm no expert but one of the guys i heard say star citizen handles like shit is a dude who's a physicist so
If I recall correctly, the flight model in Star Citizen is mostly Newtonian, with a little bit of arcade for gameplay's sake. Elite's is entirely Arcade, almost the same flight model they used in Frontier. It's the difference between Gran Turismo and Ridge Racer, and that can cause some differences in opinion. Don't get me wrong, Elite's flight model is great, but it's nowhere near realistic. There's a reason it's referred to as "fighter planes in space."
i'm still super skeptical about it. you can say "it's still in progress!" all you want but so far all we've seen is a bunch of features implemented in very mediocre, maybe even amateurish ways what i've heard from most old-school space-sim players, and elite dangerous players, is that the flight mechanics are very lackluster at this point and what we've seen of the fps and rpg elements of the game look weak
As someone who was extremely skeptical of SC's flight physics, coming back to the game after not having played since the initial release has shown me that it's actually really fun. The screwy physics at release that made ships jink around like a Prius on ice has been rectified, so ships now respond beautifully. Dogfights are very fun; a bit faster paced than ELITE, but slower than Evochron Mercenary's OH GOD EVERYTHING IS EXPLODING. Of course there's still a lot wrong with the game, like the godawful player movement outside of ships and a completely asinine patching system (aka redownload the entire game every update), but those aren't the current focus.
i dunno i'm no expert but one of the guys i heard say star citizen handles like shit is a dude who's a physicist so this is quite fair but as far as i know there are conflicts to choose a side on (between three super-power entities?) and set missions to do with some sort of progression still that's a much better start than "spend real money to buy virtual spaceships. fight i guess?" i'd rather have an amazing galaxy to fly around and good flight mechanics and some sort of economy and shipyard to advance through in-game than... nothing
I'll give you everything except that "amazing galaxy" bit. I've flown in less than fifty systems and I've seen almost all there is to see. They really need to do something to differentiate Styx from Sol, or everything else for that matter. Honestly, I think they will, but it's going to be a while. The biggest way they can create some diversity is through the procedural planet surfaces, and player-controlled installations (which they're apparently looking at more closely now.) Honestly, I love Elite. I really do. It's a fantastic start. I just want more to do, I don't think it's really fit to be released as a game yet.
i dunno i'm no expert but one of the guys i heard say star citizen handles like shit is a dude who's a physicist so
They're both equally stupid. Elite's ships handling is much more realistic for their mass but they have space friction making them feel more like fat airplanes than spaceships unless you disengage flight assists. SC's ships have stupidly overpowered RCS thrusters allowing the ships to spin about their axis with speeds that should cause the ship to snap in half, but it generally obeys the laws of physics otherwise; do a sharp turn and the ship will continue to slide until your bottom thrusters can slow down the movement.
fair play guys, gotta say i'm not totally clued up on the flight physics of either games, so i'm just looking forward to trying them both out properly that said i'm more clued up on development and i'm still very skeptical about the way SC is going about things
I've played both, currently like Star Citizen's dog fighting more.
I've played both, currently like Star Citizen's dog fighting more.
Really? I prefer Elite's model in general much more. I guess it's really subjective.
Really? I prefer Elite's model in general much more. I guess it's really subjective.
I've tried both out, probably spent about the same time playing ED and Star Citizen's AC. I still prefer SC current dog fighting over ED. ED feels like I'm trying to play a jousting match.
