Following a patent suit from Apple, Samsung has vowed to retaliate with its own legal action, and the South Korean electronics giant is said to be considering a counter-suit related to wireless patents.
Samsung officials have reportedly said that they believe Apple has violated patents their company owns related to wireless technology, according to Agence France-Presse. Samsung has vowed to "actively" respond to Apple's lawsuit, and said it plans to take measures to "protect" its intellectual property.
"Apple is one of our key buyers of semiconductors and display panels. However, we have no choice but to respond strongly at this time," an unidentified Samsung official reportedly said.
The report noted that Apple was Samsung's second-largest client in 2010, following Sony. Apple reportedly accounted for 4 percent of Samsung's $142 billion in revenue last year, or $5.68 billion.
Apple was previously projected to become the largest customer of Samsung in 2011, with a reported $7.8 billion in component purchases planned. However, it's unknown whether Apple plans to shift components to another supplier given the recent legal action.

Revenge is sweet.
Don't we love counter-suits?
The funny thing is, Samsung will keep providing components to Apple to manufacture their products, even while litigation is ongoing.
there were tablets around way before the ipad. apple should be sued by those folks.

because it would be so smart to stop selling your product to your largest purchaser, right? They'd just end up switching to another company.
You can't copyright or patent an idea..other companies are still allowed to make rectangular tablets with buttons on them. This is why the Tetris Company has had every lawsuit they ever made thrown out when they get to court because they keep trying to sue people who make games with "falling blocks".
The Lotus decision establishes a distinction in copyright law between the interface of a software product and its implementation. The implementation is subject to copyright. The public interface may also be subject to copyright to the extent that it contains expression (for example, the appearance of an icon). However, the set of available operations and the mechanics of how they are activated are not copyrightable. This standard allows software developers to create original clones of copyrighted software products without infringing the copyright.
"Look and feel" copyright lawsuits don't stand up in court..I have a feeling apple's lawsuit will be dismissed. I don't know much about Samsung's counter-suit against apple though.

Uh, because if they're infringing on your patents... you might? Obviously both sides don't see it serious enough to attempt to detriment each others bottom line.

"TO BEING WITH"
I hope Apple gets the bitch slap I've been waiting to happen since...FOREVER!
Apple's suits hold no water, and they know it. They just ride on the fact that nobody wants to challange them. Honestly, I want to see a court tell Apple the legal equivalent of "shut up."

same here xD
Fuck Apple, I wish Samsung could just selling their screens they're selling to them for being such assholes but it doesn't make any sense to do so business-wise.
I just wish Samsung would say "Shove your retina displays up your assholes" and close production.
I love how apple's statement said that they copied their "innovative style". Who the hell puts something so open to interpretation and debatable in a lawsuit?
Also apple won't stop buying samsungs hummingbird chips. They'd have to rework their entire OS and so would every app dev if they switched to snapdragon cpus.

Get out.

LG make the retinas.
LG make the retinas.
And I still prefer the Galaxy S's luscious screen over the Iphone 4's "hey look I can strain the shit out of my eyes to read the tiny but clear text on the screen even though the pinch and zoom feature is there" retina display
It would be cool if they told apple the legal equivalent of fuck off we aren't selling you shit anymore.
Apple really needs to pull the stick out of it's arse.
