i always had my suspicion that the white boxes where related to the memory
I had no idea the PS2 got criticism for being able to be used as a weapon... somehow
That's the weirdest accusation i've heard for anything.
jesus fucking christ
that gt3 music at the beginning
nostalgia hit me so hard
Weird, I never saw any pillars even though I've always had a memory card.
lol I remember in 6th grade my computer teacher told us about Saddam Hussein using Playstations. It's surprising what the PS2 is capable of outside of its intended use.
I wonder how well using a PS2 as a PC would work these days.
I loved all the little details of the PS2
My favorite was how you could go into the memory card data and delete the saves. Most saves had models/animations attached to them as well.
i'm surprised they didn't talk about this nightmare-inducing screen

Can't understand how RSOD actually scared people

Looks like you don't even need the kit
because it makes an ominous as fuck sound and its all red and shit
it's the literal rendition of your ps2 descending into hell

Apparently there's also a port of AmigaOS for PS2 as well.
One of the four games that can do 1080i is Jackass: The Game. Why that of all things?
Running it as a home server is something I really was not expecting
i still have my fat ps2 that came with jax and gran turismo 3

People thought it would be used as makeshift missile control system... Or something along those lines. Kind of ludicrous really, as the article stated, why not just build an actual computer system rather than faff about with PS2s?
Though, IIRC, some people managed to use a cluster of PS3s to computer MD5 hash collisions, which could theoretically be used to break into accounts provided the hashed passwords had been leaked and were computed using the MD5 hashing algorithm or some other comparable hashing algorithm with collisions.

Everytime I heard that sound my heart would drop and I would think it broke.
I remember this happening like, 5 times in a row randomly when trying to load up Ratchet and Clank 3 and I was nearly crying thinking my machine/disk broke.
PS2 is like the best console of the decade
still have a modded slim one and after 4 years when i bought it from a friend, the only broken thing was the power brick that started to fry, but dad took some conductive tape and it still works, since then i'm unplugging all my consoles from the sockets when i'm not using them
[sp]if someone still remembers from last year, it even has a Facepunch sticker on it[/sp]
I had no idea Valkyrie Profile 2 could do 1080i, I gotta try that out some time.

Keep in mind that it came out in year 2000. I'm 20 years old - I was literally like, 6-7 when we got a PS2. Imagine you're that age and your most favouritest (and expensive) toy does something that makes it look broken over and over.
It wasn't the PS1's startup sound but the PS2's was a damn fine startup sound too.

I remember seeing this screen because I put in AVP (1) PC-disc in and thought it would work.
Boy was I stupid.
But not stupid enough to think the PS2 could be used as a weapon. What the fuck?
wow, the 1080P games look really nice. I'm surprised it can handle that.
The PS2 is one of the best damned consoles ever. So many great games, and so many good memories.

Just hearing the startup sound fills me with warmth.

To be honest I didn't know it could. Every single source I was able to find prior to watching this video only mentioned GT4 and Tourist Trophy.

The other 25% would send death threats to the toaster's manufacturer.
