lol did they honestly use this song
As a huge fan of SOAD, I am very okay with this. Could've used a less overplayed song tho.
This is probably SOAD's most accessible song which was a smart choice. I don't care for that band but I like this song and am very familiar with it so it got my hyped. A bit silly though, but MK has always been a little silly
They could've used a better song, even a better SOAD song. Hearing this makes me feel like I'm watching some 13 year old's Tech Deck video. or even this...
lol did they honestly use this song
It was quite fitting. And i'm not saying that because i act like a total fangirl when it comes to SOAD.
It's like watching a poopy Anime Amv. What a horrible choice for a launch trailer.

But that's why I love it. They could have ramped it up even more and fucking used let the bodies hit the floor, i'd be okay with that. This post can also apply to the post above me, especially since he mentioned it was like an anime AMV and every anime AMV uses bodies by drowning pool
lol did they honestly use this song
I don't even like the song but it wasn't out of place here.
I mean seriously, one of the characters has an oversized oddjob hat, another is a screeching bruce lee clone and bo rai cho farted everywhere and had a move where he could throw up and make his enemies slip on vomit. lets not take this game too seriously

You would think with that in mind they'd choose a song more fitting but I suppose things like this happen when you get Shavo from System of A Down to advertise your game. It's just a trailer, but it's not really in tone with the rest of the stuff they've shown. like so, They probably just ended up changing their mind halfway through development.
I still think the character models look really bad and just the general colour palette of the game makes it look really dull. You could probably show someone some of the shots from the trailer and pass it off as a PS2 screenshot.

The style is similar, MK9 didn't feature many bright colors either. I think aesthetically, yes, it's darker and more serious looking but the gameplay itself forces the series to be less serious. To many people, the over the top gore is hilarious in a way kind of hard for me to explain. Especially the x-ray moves. Those trailers did depict it in different light, though. I guess the final product will prove what's what. And to clarify, this is just the views me and my friends have on the game. I have no idea if Mortal Kombat is supposed to be this way or not, it's just how we've generally interpreted it [editline]6th April 2015[/editline]
I still think the character models look really bad and just the general colour palette of the game makes it look really dull. Then maybe. modern games almost look like some PS2 games CGI cutscenes even.

Just look at the injustice game, it was like a 2 hour long DC movie. I didn't even play the game, but watched a video with only the cut scenes and love it completely.

[editline]6th April 2015[/editline] If that's what you're trying to say. I'm really not sure.

Really weird to see SoaD music officially used for game promotion. But they made it work with the trailer.

[editline]6th April 2015[/editline]
Really weird to see SoaD music officially used for game promotion. But they made it work with the trailer.
Not only that, but SOAD's Bassist Shavo Odadjian directed the video and cut of the song. This isn't the first time SOAD has appeared in video games either. [editline]6th April 2015[/editline]
or even this...
That was an awesome mashup!
The game is over the top and the song is an over the top choice. But they're different sorts of over the top and should not mix. Do they have any trailers without terribly unfitting music?
The game is over the top and the song is an over the top choice. But they're different sorts of over the top and should not mix. Do they have any trailers without terribly unfitting music?
Well... I wouldn't say the song is over the top on it's own. It's actually just a well written song performed by a fucking talented band. Having it used in the context of a Mortal Kombat trailer is what makes it silly so I don't see what you're getting it. [editline]6th April 2015[/editline] But it was also badass af when the heavy guitar kicked in. fit the brutal MK action perfectly.
This cover probably would have worked better:

The song is so on-the-nose when used like this and it works wonderfully well with Mortak Kombat's cheesy gorey universe.
Oh please, this music fit fine. I like MK, but let's not pretend it's not a bunch of big stupid over-the-top edgy schlock :v:
Oh please, this music fit fine. I like MK, but let's not pretend it's a bunch of big stupid over-the-top edgy schlock :v:
But it kind of is
I meant let's not pretend it it's not. My bad. :v:
I think people are missing the reason of choice in music, people around 18 use the internet over TV right, therefore they would have known about it by now or from word of mouth. Even streams of character fight demos to get people interested. When did the song in the trailer come out, then compare that to how old would a teenage then listening to that song be now. A lot older right? Now they would be tech savvy a bit today, but they aren't connected to everything due to things like jobs and family. My educated guess is that this is a trailer to appeal to a later crowd who has not heard of it yet, because if you know about it you would already have interest in buying it or not. Now my criticism is that if they had the budget to get a new version of the song by system of a down or a entirely new song buy them would had been better.
I liked the trailer, but they did a really poor job at cutting the song to fit properly. You could hear the jumps pretty easily.

Can't wait for the inevitable video that replaces it with this;
