Trump privately calling Rosenstein a threat to his presidency: report

President Trump has referred to deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who appointed Robert Mueller as the special counsel for the Russia probe, as “a threat to his presidency,” according to a report in The Washington Post.
The report, published Sunday, said Trump has referred to Rosenstein as “weak” and made fun of the deputy attorney general’s testimony last week in front of the House Judiciary Committee.
The president has also complained about Rosenstein being “a Democrat," although the Justice Department official is actually a Republican, the Post said.
Rosenstein appointed Mueller to be special counsel in May, after Trump fired FBI director James Comey.

Here's why:

Rosenstein last week testified that he sees no cause to fire Mueller, who has for months lead the investigation into Russia’s attempts to meddle in the 2016 U.S. election and any potential ties between Trump campaign staff members and Moscow.

Saturday Night Massacre 2: Treasonous Boogaloo incoming boys.
lmao Trump must really be feeling the heat now.
Hah! I fucking knew it. Because he's sure Rosenstein will refuse to fire Mueller, he's already thinking of having him replaced.
Trump is such a simple, predictable creature. To have such a weak, easily manipulated leader controlling the most powerful economy and military in the world is a horrible thought.
There are two possible methods by which Trump can indirectly fire Mueller, assuming that Rosenstein proves uncooperative.
1) Trump fires Rosenstein, and directs the new acting director to fire Mueller. Assuming the new acting director refuses too, Trump fires them, and so on and so forth until he has worked far enough down the DOJ chain of command that somebody agrees.
2) Trump argues executive privelege to both fire Rosenstein and handpick a more cooperative replacement, bypassing the typical chain of command, to fire Mueller.
Both of these would result in an almost unmatched Constitutional crisis, with the only other possible historical precedent being Nixon's "Saturday Night Massacre." The primary difference between then and now is that Nixon's own party agreed that the rule of Constitutional law was more important than partisan politics. Nowadays, I reckon that is no longer true of the Republican party, as even still they refuse to draft legislation to preemptively protect the independence of this investigation and fire-proof Mueller.
The future of our country will hinge upon the reactions of Congress, the Judiciary, and the rest of the Executive if (or when) Trump moves to destroy this investigation. I don't have especially high hopes.
The big blockbuster Watergate reboot is shaping up.

You're forgetting one more case.
Mueller, every 90 days, has to go to the attorney general to keep getting approval to continue, and to expand the investigation, if needed. Rosenstein, by testifying to Congress that he sees no reason to fire Mueller, means that Mueller has extremely hot coals on this administration.
What Trump can do is fire Rosenstein, but appoint a stooge that just refuses to renew Mueller's investigation at the next check-in.
If Trump makes a move to terminate this investigation, be prepared to react immediately and decisively.
The following website is being used to pre-emptively organize massive nationwide protests to be carried out within hours of an announcement that Mueller or Rosenstein have been fired.

Simply search your zip code to see which protest events will be closest to you, and pack a bag with food, water, and some fresh clothes that you can grab so you can go to one at a moment's notice. This is the greatest constitutional crisis in modern history: don't stand by and hope that our rule of law is preserved, demand that it be preserved.
Hes got him some Saturday night massacre fever
Lets hope the republicans have enough of a collective spine to say enough, or at least do something after he signs their tax bill because thats all they really care about
The Republicans will have to make a decisions soon, one that I fear they have long since made already, whether they love their power and corporate sponsored wealth, or this country as they so often claim.
“It looks more and more and more like an attack on the presidency,” former Trump campaign adviser Michael Caputo said Sunday. “I still don’t believe Mueller is in for a silent coup, but I think people around him have shown that this thing is off the rails. . . . These texts and emails were a declaration of their membership in the resistance.”
That is some scary fucking language. "Declaration of their membership in the resistance."
That is some scary fucking language. "Declaration of their membership in the resistance."
I can tell they wanted to say "Insurgency*
That is some scary fucking language. "Declaration of their membership in the resistance."
Weren't the texts he's mentioning just a couple guys, who got removed from the investigation, calling Trump an idiot? Caputo is so full of shit I'm surprised he can talk.

Did they find any plans to the DNC Death Star in the emails? :v:
But in all seriousness I signed up to protest if this shit comes to fruition.
It's nice to know that half of my country thinks I'm a traitor simply because I want a government of responsible public servants rather than a cabal of self-serving corporate kleptocrats, all while inadvertently defending literal fucking traitors because muh culture wars

Shit, that's true. That's why Trump keeps saying that he feels confident that there will be a letter vindicating him in the coming months. He intends to fire Rosenstein, exercise his new executive power to appoint a handpicked replacement who will refuse to grant a continuance to the investigation, and then claim that the investigation was concluded and he is innocent of wrongdoing based on that refusal of continuance. Christ, that's a frightening thought.

I'm hopeful in that Mueller, as it has seemed, is 10 steps ahead of Trump on this scenario and has indictments lined up to force their hand to keep the investigation going.

Mueller's team undoubtedly knows ten times more than the public at this point, and may even have it prepped and ready to fire if the administration moves to block him, but the public already knows enough for any rational person to realize how necessary this investigation is. So, I question whether Mueller launching another round of indictments in the days before he is terminated would save the investigation.
Fox News, and every other right wing propaganda outlet, has been launching an aggressive disinformation campaign to sow doubt about the credibility and integrity of Mueller's team. They are outright calling the investigation a fucking coup. They could, and would, spin another round of indictments as a desperate last ditch effort from Evil Mueller's Coup Against Our Poor Strong President, and celebrate his firing as Justice Prevailing against the usurpers. And, frankly, I worry that the GOP would fully back that play.

Ya not supprisingly the fox-WH feedback loop is graspig at straws with this, not only did he report this, he preemptively removed the one guy from his investigation but now the whole thing is filled with clintonian deepstate obama insurgents ready to take over the government.

But voters think it's worth it because it leaves a mess on the walls that Democrats have to smell 24/7 #MAGA
It's going to be interesting to see just what percentage of Republican Party politicians and officials are tainted by Russian collusion when the dust clears. The world has never seen an entire segment of a major US political party be indicted for treasonous collusion with a foreign power to rig federal elections before.
The closest would be the events leading up to the war of independence and the events surrounding the US civil war, but even then no one was fighting to get away with corrupting the system for the sake of fucking over absolutely everyone but an elite oligarchy. I'm not very strong in European history but I think you'd have to go back to the corrupt British kings or the French Revolution for a comparable situation, and we know how those ended up.
The president has also complained about Rosenstein being “a Democrat,"
Always remember. If you don't like someone, they're a Democrat, even if they say they're Republican.
If they're a conservative that has done military service and associated with (R) for years . . . . doesn't matter. They must be a liberal commie because it couldn't possibly be that one has moved their goalposts far further to the right than typical conservatism or capitalist values.
It's not possibly that you and your associates are no longer Republican other than by name and instead Fascist, no sirrrree, it's everyone else moving to the left. /s

Well remember democrats have been obstructing congress from doing...something, we don't know what but they definitely have been obstructing, maybe it was the healthcare bill idk...
Honestly at this point I'm praying that the EU just becomes a proper state so that there will be a western superpower left in the world if we collapse into a civil war, which is becoming scarily likely. At this point it seems like it doesn't even matter if video evidence comes out tomorrow that Trump and his team gang-raped and cannibalized babies while Putin jacked off with a roll of barbed wire and they all screamed "DEATH TO AMERICA!" There are people that have simply decided that they've picked their side with Trump and they're never, ever going to change their minds no matter what happens, they'll dig until they find the right propaganda to justify it to themselves or make it "fake news." I want to believe this can be resolved peacefully AND that our democracy can be preserved, but when we've gotten to the point that the propaganda machine is willing to declare their enemies a "coup" and calling them "the resistance", it's hard to not think things are quickly starting to approach a point of no return. I'm really getting scared that there's no way that this can end without one side or the other deciding that the opposing side has to be wiped out.
