I just recently played through Splinter Cell:Conviction. After playing through Double Agent, I felt that Conviction was a rather lackluster and altogether "meh" game. I was looking for some good stealth gameplay, and that isn't what I found.
All in all, I felt that Conviction didn't know if it wanted to be a stealth game or an action game. There were moments that were a bit of both, but most of the time it was a shitty action game. Seriously, in the Iraq level, you still had the same health as Sam Fisher did(two or three hits- death) but they expected you to play it completely action-wise. I was like, "make up your mind, game!" the whole way through.
The one saving point in the game was the story. Although it wasn't AMAZING by any standards, it compelled me to go through the whole frustrating game just to find out what happens in the end.
What did you guys think about this game?
i liked it.

honestly it's 2 sides of the same coin:
a) omg this sequel is too similar to the previous game 0/10
b) omg this sequel is too different from the previous game 0/10
It felt like an action game with some stealth mechanics.
It should have been a stealth game with action mechanics.
while it wasn't OH MY GOD FUCKING ABOMINATION OF MANKIND level, I just felt that it was trying to appeal to two different audiences and failed.

This is what all splinter cell games were, except for conviction.
A great game, a bad Splinter Cell.
They took out so many awesome gameplay features from the previous game. It felt so dumbed down. Keep it stealthy Ubisoft.

666th post. Must mean Ubisoft is the devil

Splinter Cell is best when it's stealthy, IMHO.
Holy shit, Monkeygod, this is your 666th post!
Splinter Cell chaos theory forever.
I don't think they'll be able to make another game like that, only because it wouldn't sell 'largely' and the producer wouldn't make enough cash profit from it.
While I think conviction is good(from what I played((I didn't finish it)).
I want to play Chaos Theory, but windows 7 won't let me.

While I still stand by my opinion, I must also say that the demographic of gamers nowadays isn't what it was back in '02 when the first SC launched.

One of the things I miss most about previous games was quick saving. That would've saved the game for me, more or less. That and whistling.
What the hell? I was just playing Splinter Cell Conviction. I wish people still played co-op on it.
Everything about Conviction just felt very unlike Splinter Cell, you didn't have to think about what you were doing. There were never any consequences for fucking up. You could shoot your way through everything effortlessly if you wanted.
It was interesting seeing Sam's story continue. But being able to plow through everything guns blazing and explosion up the arse did not make it feel like a stealth/Splinter Cell game at all.
Thw annoying thing for me was that they pretty much tell you to go amok and shoot everyone, but you still die in like three hits.
It's a fantastic game, really makes you feel like a badass agent kicking everyone's butt around. As a Splinter Cell game it's not really that great, good, but not great.
I didn't find it difficult at all to be honest. Even at the highest difficulty. Difference is that you die easier, but even then it's easy to avoid them and gun them down without trying.
I liked it. The whole mark and execute thingy was pretty awesome. But yes, it was not really a stealth game.
I hated how they took out so many features that were present in the previous games. But still, a fantastic game in my opinion and co-op was quite fun.
In my opinion SC:C was a good game under the wrong name; if anything, the mechanics seem like they would make a good Assassin's Creed set modern times. When I got SC:C, I got the 3 other Splinter Cells on steam, I played through them in order. This wasn't my first time with Splinter Cell though, that was Double Agent on the Wii and it had the sound and light meters, it wasn't close to the Double Agent on the PC. When I got up to DA on my computer I was blown away (and not in a good way) with the way they had the stealth mechanic. It went from trying to keep yourself blended in both sight and sound to a 3 tier system that doesn't tell you why you are or are not stealthy. When I finally got into Conviction as much as I liked the game, it wasn't Splinter Cell to me. Keeping hidden went down from sound and light meters, to a Green/ Yellow/ Red light on Sam's back, to a binary in/out of stealthiness color change. Conviction never wants you to sneak past someone, it always sets you up to execute a conveniently placed guy at the start of the level.
There are some things that I expected from a Splinter Cell game. The old regular goggles were fine, keep them. I want to be able to use the environment to my advantage and not just shoot down something that some people are conveniently under. I want the noise I make have an effect; landing next to someone or even jumping over a counter, knocking everything off of it, has no effect on the AI. Let me knock everyone out and have a non-lethal run. I played through SC:C recently and only killed those who I had to, they threw executions in my face at the start of almost every level. Most importantly, let me grab someone and interrogate them for information; not just the people that are your objective to interrogate. And if they have this in the next game, I expect someone to talk about ninjas.
Ive never played it, do you recommend me playing it so I can formulate an opinion so I can contribute to this thread?

Its a good action game with stealth elements, but dont expect anything more.

WANNA PLAY COOP THIS WEEKEND???
I actually like SC:C. But I agree that it kind of doesn't deserve it's name. The COOP in it I possibly like more than the single-player. I need to mention that I played Splinter Cell games in a very wrong order. First one when I was pretty bad at PC games, especially stealth ones, then after years I picked Conviction and after that Chaos Theory. CT is definitely the best. Perfect sequel in my opinion would be the more fast-paced gameplay of Conviction (mostly movement, not being more action oriented) with all the abilities of CT and of course better graphics. I can't decide about the meters and the B'n'W effect.. The color-sucking damaged the visual aspect of the game but was also very straightforward (and made the game more casual).
Also CT has one of the best dialogs between your victims/co-workers and you. I missed that a lot in SC:C.
Tis a good game, playing through the originals at the moment. Would be nice to have the Splinter Cell Trilogy: HD Collection which the PS3 has at the mo, especially since pandora tomorrow ( personal fav on ps2 ) doesn't run that well on PC / isn't sold on steam.
Its a good action game with stealth elements, but dont expect anything more.
I would say it's got more than stealth elements. I mean, stealth is still a sizeable chunk of the game, just not the near all of it.
i looked forward to this game for years. then when they announced they were changing direction they completely ruined it. they had such potential in making it an urban based stealth game where you are trying to evade the police, in like a jason bourne type way, and they just turned it into absolute shit. i got 3 or 4 levels in before deciding is succeeded neither as a stealth or action game, and was just a completely lackluster excuse for a release.
I didn't like it, it was really fucking easy and shitty compared to the old games.
Try playing the first splinter cell, you'll understand the meaning of that game is hard as hell.
WANNA PLAY COOP THIS WEEKEND???
Sure, add me on steam.

They actually stated that the game was originally gonna have a heavy Bourne influence, but it was dropped. You would have been able to improvise gadgets and everything. Open world would have been awesome, and it kinda was featured in the carnival mission.
I disagree. I thought it was a fantastic game. I've played through every splinter cell several times, Double Agent less than the rest, but that's a diffrent debate. Conviction felt to me like a refreshing twist. Sam in Double Agent felt too chill about losing his daughter, and losing his best friend and not going mad just ruined it. Convictions showed those took their toll. By that, I mean he's pissed. I wouldn't be chill if all that had happened. I would screw the whole pro spy thing and kick ass, like Sam does. You forget though that there is stealth involved. Its all in how you play. There's also the 3rd echelon level and that level is based around stealth. As for the Iraq level, you're supposed to play it with action, yeah. But you are supposed to use tactics, you're under assault. You aren't going to go and use stealth when you're leader is being tortured. To wrap things up: SC:C In my opinion is no "Shitty Action Game" But a great stealth-action game that provided a fantastic twist to an already brilliant story. I give that game 10/10.
The thing is that Sam Fisher isn't a regular guy, he's a highly trained individual that was put under extreme stress before he started his first mission(they say he's been through interrogation training) so while i agree that " shitty action game" is VERY harsh, i'd rather play a game that is focused on one aspect than one that is trying to do two things at the same time. I was also pretty tired and had just finished the game, so i was pretty harsh
