Foreign Secretary William Hague has said plans to re-open the British Embassy in Tehran are an "important step forward" in relations with Iran.
Mr Hague said the "circumstances were right" following an improvement in bilateral relations in recent months.
Full diplomatic relations with Iran were suspended after attacks on the British embassy in Iran in 2011.
The election of a new Iranian president and a deal on Iran's nuclear programme has led to renewed contacts this year.
The move comes as Iraqi forces are engaged in heavy clashes with Sunni Islamist militants across the country and amid reports that Iran is providing military assistance to its historic rival.
The US is deploying up to 275 military personnel to protect staff at its huge embassy in Iraq.
Mr Hague said the UK embassy would re-open "as soon as practical arrangements are made" as a sign of "increasing confidence" in the state of relations between the two countries.
Aside of being not really democratic and being kinda angry about being denied to do any and all nuclear research, Iran hasn't really been doing anything wrong lately.
They are kinda getting bullied by the west because Israel keeps getting hysterical about them.

Considering we have some pretty sound theories about Thorium reactors, we should've been all "Hey Iran? We understand you're looking for good, clean energy. Tell you what, we'll help you try to get one of these puppies up and running. You get good clean energy, the world learns from your example and as a result improves as a whole, and nobody has to get a bug up their ass about you refining bomb fuel. Sound good?"

B-but Iran said they are going to wipe israel off the map!

Which they did.
And Israel wants Iran off the map.
Everyone sucks, no one is the good guy in this situation.

Yyyyyeah but it's a weaker bomb so people will bitch less, right?
...Right?
Plutonium is used in both nukes and space technology. Should we ban space tech because it is powered by it?

Oh shit I guess I'm dead then
heh, I never knew purgatory had access to FP

I really wonder why someone'd be angry when they're denied being able to research alternative energy sources.

This is true, however Molten Salt Reactors/MSRs (aka Thorium reactors), are mixing pot of a bunch of different isotopes. One of them being U-232 which is created from Th-232 irradiation, which has a chain of powerful gamma ray decays. Gamma rays deter fission and those trying to build fission weapons.
Not saying that it isn't weapons potential, but compared to other reactor styles, MSRs are less prone to nuclear proliferation.
