When my Grandad was in the cavalry he was gunner on a Chieftain, they used to put beer cans inside the smoke dischargers and when they ran out of beer they would sometimes throw a track on purpose because the recovery vehicle still had an ammo rack to store shells even though it had no gun and the crew would fill the rack with beer. When the recovery vehicle came to fix their track then they would steal their beer.
Another thing they did on exercises, in Germany the farmers who had old crappy barns would pay them beer to park next to the barn and just spin the turret 360. The barns were just old wooden things so the barrel would smash them down and then the German farmer can claim that it was damaged by British forces and would say it was a brand new barn which he had so the government would give him money to build a new one.

For some reason my helicopter really liked to break down whenever we were outside Los Vegas. We'd end up stuck there 3 to 4 days unable to do anything but gamble and drink, it was terrible

It would be unlikely to happen in the first place. The vast majority of military exercises occur on lands set aside specifically for that purpose.

You know, when the Black Hawk was first introduced, some of the pilots intentionally wore their BH patches upside-down.
You get three tries to guess why, and the first two don't count.
Dad heard it going overhead on its way to Dyce Airport, as we live not too far from where it came down.
He recognised it because we hear and see them every time the exercise is on.
