• Apache helicopter goes for a snooze in a field
An army Apache helicopter has been forced to make an emergency landing on the outskirts of Aberdeen. Aberdeen International Airport was put on full alert, but the helicopter landed in a field near Maryculter. The two people on board the helicopter escaped injury. The Ministry of Defence said the mechanical failure would be investigated. The Apache had been taking part in Nato's Operation Joint Warrior training exercise. Eyewitness Kevin Park told BBC Scotland: "We heard a helicopter outside, it was quite loud so it was obviously quite low. "We recognised it as an Apache. "It landed in a field across the road. "We went across and spoke to the pilot and co-pilot."
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-26926219
it would be nice to take a break from a rigorous military exercise, fake mechanical trouble and land on a field to have a picnic
"We went across and spoke to the pilot and co-pilot."
I don't know why but I found this really amusing, I wonder how that played out "hi guys, uh, what's up?" "not us"
it would be nice to take a break from a rigorous military exercise, fake mechanical trouble and land on a field to have a picnic
When my Grandad was in the cavalry he was gunner on a Chieftain, they used to put beer cans inside the smoke dischargers and when they ran out of beer they would sometimes throw a track on purpose because the recovery vehicle still had an ammo rack to store shells even though it had no gun and the crew would fill the rack with beer. When the recovery vehicle came to fix their track then they would steal their beer. Another thing they did on exercises, in Germany the farmers who had old crappy barns would pay them beer to park next to the barn and just spin the turret 360. The barns were just old wooden things so the barrel would smash them down and then the German farmer can claim that it was damaged by British forces and would say it was a brand new barn which he had so the government would give him money to build a new one.

We'd end up stuck there 3 to 4 days unable to do anything but gamble and drink, it was terrible

I like how the BBC reporter went up to the pilots and had a chat. If this happened in the US they wouldn't have been allowed to even get close.
Love the thread title.
I was reading that in the voices from the Civil Protection series.
I imagined it more like this

'No' said the man in Moscow, 'the Su-25 is the tank'. I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose... The AH-64 as the tank.
I like how the BBC reporter went up to the pilots and had a chat. The vast majority of military exercises occur on lands set aside specifically for that purpose.
I like how the BBC reporter went up to the pilots and had a chat.
I like how the BBC reporter went up to the pilots and had a chat. If this happened in the US they wouldn't have been allowed to even get close.
Of course they wouldn't have gotten close in the US. Our helicopters are in the air.

You get three tries to guess why, and the first two don't count.
Dad heard it going overhead on its way to Dyce Airport, as we live not too far from where it came down. He recognised it because we hear and see them every time the exercise is on.
Cisvehicle scum don't understand its pain.
There's also the trans-helicopter.
