A Utah sixth-grader, who told classmates he was encouraged by his parents to bring a gun to school after the Connecticut school shooting, was apprehended by teachers after he was found with an unloaded .22-caliber handgun, Fox13Now.com reported. The unidentified student, described in the report as an 11-year-old boy, reportedly pulled the gun from his backpack during recess Monday at West Kearns Elementary School, which is in a suburb of Salt Lake City. Isabel Rios, a fellow sixth-grader, said the boy pointed the gun at her head and said he was going to kill her, the report said. Students did not immediately alert teachers about the gun. A district spokesman told the station that once teachers were alerted, the student was "apprehended in 30 to 45 seconds" and brought to the principal's office. Some parents were not satisfied with the school's response. "There was no lockdown. No one was called. Nothing was done. And then we had to hear it from our kids," said John Klaus, a father of a student at the school. The school administrators, for their part, said there was no lockdown because the situation was resolved quickly and they did not want to startle students. Police were investigating to determine what role, if any, the boy's parents may have had in the incident. The student was taken to a juvenile hall. He may face criminal charges and/or expulsion from the school.
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/12/18/utah-sixth-grader-found-with-unloaded-gun-in-class-reportedly-says-parents/
Inspiring indeed. God bless.
unloaded .22
Before people jump the gun on this one
-snip-
Before people jump the gun on this one
It's unloaded, but, uh, 22's can kill.
Keyword "Unloaded", not the caliber. It could be an unloaded howitzer, for all we care.
Before people jump the gun on this one
unloaded .22, nice catch
.22 is so small. How deep would that kind of gun penetrate? Enough to stop a crazed gunman?
young childrens skulls are so very soft
Keyword "Unloaded", not the caliber. It could be an unloaded howitzer, for all we care.
What does unloaded mean?
What does unloaded mean?
It does not have a round chambered/it has no bullets in the magazine at all. It could be both too, depending on the piece. [editline]18th December 2012[/editline]
Isabel Rios, a fellow sixth-grader, said the boy pointed the gun at her head and said he was going to kill her, the report said.
Here's the biggest problem
What does unloaded mean?
IE No magazine and no rounds in the pipe.
It does not have a round chambered/it has no bullets in the magazine at all. It could be both too, depending on the piece.
That does sound confusing that unloaded can mean it can or cannot have a bulllet in it. EDIT: I understand you fully now. It can be unloaded in the chamber but still have bullets in the cylinder/magazine or have one bullet in the chamber and none in the magazine/cylinder which is what you said but not in a way I could understand directly but thanks for the explanation. The kid probably had bullets in the magazine but did not know how to load the chamber or neither because the article doesn't clear out what unloaded means in this case. Enough with guns for me now.
young childrens skulls are so very soft
And don't forget tasty!
This is why weapons do not belong in schools.
unloaded .22, nice catch
you forget how much people read halfway through a thread and throw a fit about something that is explained or discredited in the article like that. still, I don't think this is any less cause for alarm just because it was found to be unloaded. for one, you can't tell if it's loaded or not if the kid whips it out at you, and two, what if the kid took the gun and didn't know it wasn't loaded and actually intended on doing something with it? what if he pulled the trigger only to hear an empty click when he was pointing it at that girl?
young childrens skulls are so very soft
I feel stupid for missing the part that the kid pointed it at another student.
West Kearns probably has the highest crime rate in Utah, its a little scary just driving through there. So I can see why parents would want their child to be extra protected there, but giving an 11 year old a gun isn't the answer.
responsible parents
Before people jump the gun on this one
he still brought a gun to school, though?!
responsible parents
Best parents of the year, all years.
you forget how much people read halfway through a thread and throw a fit about something that is explained or discredited in the article like that.
It was in the first sentence.
How large are .22 round/their effectiveness?
Does it REALLY matter if the gun was unloaded? Like shit, sure it's less dangerous, but come on that's not the only issue.
How large are .22 round
Think about that for a second
If he had any rounds he could still kill someone with it if he hit them in the right spot. [editline]19th December 2012[/editline] The rounds themselves are rather small.
Send your kid equipt to take out any would be assailant. Good on you Utah. [sp] What are you fucking stupid?[/sp]
this wouldn't have even made the news if it wasn't for the recent school shooting media hysteria going on
How large are .22 round/their effectiveness?
They can definitely kill although they have weak stopping power
How large are .22 round/their effectiveness?
.22 is a small game/target round. It's surprisingly cheap, and a brick of 325 can only cost around $8 or $10. It's surprisingly accurate at mid/most target ranges, but can still puncture a skull or rupture internal organs. Not a good defense round, but enough to kill someone if you're lucky enough.
