Suggest movies everyone needs to see, be it blockbusters or largely unknown movies.
District 9 was a fantastic sleeper hit.
Inception
Blues Brothers.
Moon. Another great sleeper hit.
Oh and Serenity, it's badass.
Blade Runner

2001: A Space Odyssey
Love, Actually
It was actually really entertaining.
Old Boy
∏
Requiem for a Dream
All (or damn near all) of the Cohen Brothers' films
Pan's Labyrinth
Dark City (90s sci-fi homage to film noir and German expressionism that flew under the radar)
These are really old, but will school you:
M
The Cabinet of Dr. Calligari
Metropolis
The Seventh Seal
The Third Man
Sunset Boulevard
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Already been said but I'm repeating it again for emphasis:
Pan's Labyrinth. And also Del Toro's earlier, somewhat similar film, The Devil's Backbone. They're both in Spanish but the films are amazing and shouldn't be missed.

Watched The Devil's Backbone earlier this year in my Spanish class. It was amazing.
Dr. Strangelove, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love The Bomb
It's black and white, so it might not be your cup of tea, but it's an excellent jab at "nuclear deterrence".
Garden State.
Beautiful film, if you don't fall in love with Natalie Portman's character then you have no soul.
Black Swan
:flashfap:
Lord of the Rings
:colbert:

Not only a fantastic movie but one of the greatest soundtracks ever. Two words: Yann Tiersen.[/QUOTE]
Was in my 1001 Movies to See Before You Die book, so I decided to watch it.
Supa good, agree about the soundtrack part too. Although the cover creeps me the hell out.
The Usual Suspects
The Truman Show
The Sandlot
Children of Men
