Seth MacFarlane is hosting the Academy Awards.God help us, who ever thought we’d be seeing THOSE words all put together? The grinning mischief-maker behind the not-so-warm-and-fuzzy teddy bear of Ted, and the animated hits Family Guy, American Dad andThe Cleveland Show will be the emcee of the 85th annual Oscars on Feb. 24, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today. It’s a bold and unexpected move, especially since he has never hosted another awards show, although MacFarlane proved himself more than capable on live TV with a recentSaturday Night Live hosting gig, which in retrospect would seem to be a major part of this Academy Awards audition. He’s also been Master of Ceremonies at one other slightly less prestigious event … “It’s truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars,” MacFarlane said in a statement. “My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don’t find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast.” The Oscars tend to like their hosts to have some kind of movie background — think Billy Crystal, Hugh Jackman, Steve Martin, Whoopi Goldberg, or even the ill-fated work of James Franco and Anne Hathaway. TV-only hosts have sometimes felt out-of-place, such as David Letterman’s infamous flop in the mid-1990s. Others have straddled both worlds — such as Ellen Degeneres, Chris Rock, or Jon Stewart (who loves to mock his undistinguished filmmography,) and MacFarlane would fit this category. His Ted, which he wrote, directed, and produced — in addition to voicing the big fuzzy lead — made $434 million worldwide this summer. In Hollywood’s eyes, that means … Welcome to being a movie guy, Seth! Fans of MacFarlane’s work also know he has a long, respected history of absolutely skewering pop culture at every possible opportunity, which for viewers will make him an ideal host who could pop a pin into the self-important blow-hardery that can sometimes accompany prestigious awards shows. Also, maybe Ted and Stewie Griffin will make an appearance in some capacity. (Hey, it happened at the Emmys.) Purists may sneer, but those looking for a little more irreverence at the Oscars will surely be rejoicing over the Academy’s decision to choose a host from the misbehaving row in the back of the class. The Oscar ceremony will take place at the Dolby Theatre in the Hollywood & Highland complex, with Don Mischer, who co-produced last year, directing the telecast and Craig Zadan and Neil Meron producing.
http://insidemovies.ew.com/2012/10/01/seth-macfarlane-to-host-the-oscars-breaking/
$10 says he does a peter/stewie voice.
the animated hits

Family Guy
:suicide:
:suicide:
Don't be stupid. Even though a lot of people hate it, Family Guy is immensely popular. It's the reason Fox haven't let him stop making it yet.
:suicide:
Friday is a shit song, doesn't mean it wasn't a hit.
and the animated hits Family Guy, American Dad and The Cleveland Show
So Family Guy, Family Guy with different characters and Family Guy with different characters?
Say whatever you like about the show, but Macfarlane can be very funny at times. Rather have him host the Oscars than some of the others they've had through the years (who have always played it safe with the jokes and so on, thus making it extremely repetitive). Look at what happened when Ricky Gervais hosted the Golden Globes. He wasn't afraid of pushing the jokes and I don't think Macfarlane will be either.
Seth Macfarlane is pretty talented really.
I wish people thought of stuff other then the lame jokes on Family Guy when they hear about Seth Macfarlane, He's great.
Seth is actually really funny and talented outside of Family guy and all that shit, even then. Older family guy/american dad isn't THAT bad
Seth Macfarlane is pretty talented really.
He's a really good singer, he performed at the BBC Proms a couple of years ago and was great. You can tell he likes music too.
I don't know why they don't let Ricky Gervais do it. He was immensely popular at the golden globes.
even if his jokes suck that night, I doubt he'll be bad enough to do any real damage to the show.
So Family Guy, Family Guy with different characters and American Dad, a decent show with good humor?
ftfy
ftfy
American Dad isn't terrible and it's most definitely the best of the three, but I don't think I'd say that it's got good humor. it's a decent show for decent people with a decent sense of humor.
Seth Macfarlane is pretty talented really.
He is, he's a pretty talented guy He's just not that funny
So Family Guy, Family Guy with different characters and Family Guy with different characters?
american dad is actually good
But comedian Ricky Gervais, who hosted the Golden Globes in 2011 and 2012, was quick to offer his support. "Congratulations on The Oscars," he wrote on Twitter. "Great choice on their part. Don't hold back. Let me know if you need any Scientology gags."
American Dad is the only show of his I will watch
seth is a pretty cool dude we shouldnt be ripping on him hes really good outside of family guy and i wont deny that even FG had the occasional chuckle or laugh but not often.
Nooooooo
Not to mention Seth himself said he's tired of Family Guy and wanted to end it seasons ago but the channel kept wanting more.
Didn't he say he wanted Family Guy to end like five or six years ago? And American Dad is actually really good when you realise the whole show is almost one massive piece of satire. Maybe not as extreme as something like South Park but certainly in the same vein.
He was actually pretty funny on SNL, he could probably pull this off
seth macfarlane is very unfunny and a rape apologist
I absolutely love Seth's voice, singing and speaking. I just wish he moved away from comedy. it really isn't his strong suit.
I don't get all the family guy hate, I think it's great. Yes it's full of little clips and some jokes do go on for a long time, but that's part of what makes it funny. The only bits that I find do find annoying are the chicken fights but there's only about 3 in them anyway so it doesn't really stand as an argument for the whole thing being shit.
Family guy seems to use the same material over and over. Half of the jokes seem to lead with "It reminds of that time where..." or "Like how...." Futurama is better, that is all.
Seth MacFarlane is actually talented as fuck. I admit the newer Family Guy episodes sometimes make you sigh, but American Dad is probably the best out of them all.
