That's amazing.
In a few years these will be even better, this one prototype only has that center for a touch screen.
Where's the battery?
[editline]1st February 2013[/editline]
And i'd like to see it display more than just simple numbers. If it can't, it's not a smartphone. It's like... An early-2000s black and white dot matrix brick. Also, how'd it display black?
Alright so with transparent phones and bendable displays we will soon have intelligent play-dough then?

First of it's kind prototype, and you're already saying it's shit. You and that guy that said bendable screens are worthless are the worst kind of people.
Fucking sick! :D

Another source has:
The design is more a proof-of-concept at the moment, and may cause a few problems when more features are added, making it tricky to read on a transparent screen and anything you type will be visible from behind by others. However Polytron, is planning to market its technology by the end of 2013.

Sad panda.
runs out of battery and you leave it somewhere.
Shit, i cant see my phone!
I'm guessing this is just a demonstration of technology. Would anyone really want to use a transparent phone as their main one? The picture quality would be difficult, at the very least.

Well you gotta start somewhere, do you expect them to make something like this fucking perfect right off the bat?
What's the point of this? I understand that it's cool to have technology put forward but it looks like ass without an opaque back.
Whether or not we can think of anything cool to do with it now, you can pretty much guarantee someone will create something incredible that utilises this technology.
could be used to hold up in front of you as a kind of overlay in several applications.
Aren't polytron the dudes who made Fez

Different company, same name.
For such a new and innovative thing being made, I would expect a little more optimism.
A lot of people in this thread are already insinuating that this technology is worthless. Have some imagination!
Different company, same name.
I thought companies couldn't have the same name?

As a smartphone, I think it'd be pretty pointless. But if you have transparent displays and tiny internal circuitry, it could be applied to other things. Once scaled up, you could replace windows in your house with smart glass, or give your car an interactive heads-up-display.

There's a company in my town called Valve.
I thought companies couldn't have the same name?
They can, there is a valve corporation in Finland that has nothing to do with gaming, its not allowed if the products etc. are in similiar fields (like if both polytrons made phones).
I'm going to start my own plumbing company.
And call it Walmart.

You guys got me all wrong. I'm impressed. I'm damn impressed. Transparent screen, holy mother Mary's tits that's cool. But it's not a smartphone, like the article boldly states.
[editline]1st February 2013[/editline]
The screen is way cool, but it just doesn't look like there's a lot of 'phone' to this thing. No battery, no OS, no antenna, no aparent speaker or microphone. "Oh, but it's a tech demo of the screen only!!". Well then don't call it a bloody smartphone! Call it technology FOR smartphones.
Implement it in sunglasses, that would be rad as fuck. Give it a HUD that shows temperature and humidity.

Touch screen sunglasses :v:
Cool although I don't see the point yet.

I rather have an in built gps with glasses that shows me a trail to my destination.
greasy fingerprints ew ew ew
All of my money...
....when the kinks are figured out.
This is exactly what I want to see in mobile phones.
Watching porn in public discretely just got that much harder
apparantely, when the battery dies, it becomes visible again.
[sub]no it doesn't i'm just making an ungettable reference to The invisible Man[/sub]
First of it's kind prototype, and you're already saying it's shit. You and that guy that said bendable screens are worthless are the worst kind of people.
Well the title of the article shouldn't be "World's First Fully Transparent Smartphone" then.
Coming home late one cold winter friday, pretty drunk, it's dark, you drop this in the snow. Fuck.
