Sad update on the current condition of comedian Joan Rivers, who has been in a Manhattan hospital since Thursday after complications due to throat surgery: According to the New York Daily News, Joan Rivers is on life support, and “family members [are standing] vigil” at the hospital. This comes soon after daughter Melissa, who rushed to NYC once the shocking news broke to be at her mother’s side, released a statement saying that Rivers’ condition was “serious.”
According to TMZ, Rivers is currently “completely reliant on machines to stay alive,” but the family is remaining hopeful. They will reportedly make a decision within the next couple of days whether or not to turn off the machines, in hopes that Rivers’ condition will turn around without life support.
what exactly happened during surgery? was it a human error that caused these complications or something else?
Holy cow she's 81.

She went into cardiac or respiratory arrest, so it was likely something to do with the anesthetic I'm guessing
Didn't they just upgrade her to stable condition or is my mind making things up?
Didn't they just upgrade her to stable condition or is my mind making things up?
They did, this source is just posting old and/or incorrect news.

Bottom of the article.
"She was then put into a medically induced coma by doctors, and said to be in a stable condition as of yesterday."

can a mod change the title to make it sound less dire then?

Hm. Bad Reading x 1 on my part.
Glad she is doing better, I have known of her since I was a kid but never knew anything about her until I saw her on Graham Norton.

She can be funny although it's always kind of bleh when someone old enough to be your great grandma makes vulgar jokes. At least she has a sense of humor at her age.
I never liked Joan Rivers. She's a spiteful person that makes fun of how people dress and look while her face looks like it's held tight against her skull with a binder clip

comics making fun of how people look when they themselves don't look very good isn't an uncommon practice, and the jokes don't become less funny because of it. check out george carlin or louie ck, both of which i'm sure you've heard of/like. their jokes are almost all about how people are stupid and insulting them (louie more about how he is stupid tho)
it's probably the biggest form of comedy, it's weird how you use that as an example of why you don't like joan rivers. sounds like you just don't like comedy..

So basically every comic ever.
Holy cow she's 81.
plastic surgery is a hell of a thing
So basically every comic ever.
But comics make fun of how people dress in their skits for a limited time, she's got a show where her and her friends make fun of how people dress for an entire hour.

I mean that's kind of her thing. If you don't like it, don't watch it. There are plenty of people who go on TV and make fun of shit for an hour.

That doesn't make it okay. Some of us are still going to call her a douche bag over it.
When she dies are they going to send her to a morgue or a recycling centre?

That doesn't necessarily make it wrong. Some of us are still going to enjoy it.

The biggest problem is she can't take it in. She has gotten horribly offended at jokes directed at her, yet her only humour is making fun of others.
She's a pretty nasty person, good riddance if she croaks. Of course if she does happen to die, I expect to see hundreds of articles painting her as an "angel".

She was very sharp in her wit, not the light hearted jab mind you, there was always a jagged bitterness towards her criticism of others, even in comedy. It kinda took the fun out of it.
She's kind of a douche with all the shit she's said. iirc wasn't she a racist and didn't she say something about domestic violence
I never liked Joan Rivers. She's a spiteful person that makes fun of how people dress and look while her face looks like it's held tight against her skull with a binder clip
She also made a series of genuinely fucking despicable remarks about Palestine literally a day before this:

Say what you want about comedians being offensive, but considering this was a candid remark I'd say she's a nasty bint. Don't wish death on her, obviously, but she's a nasty cow at least.
That doesn't necessarily make it wrong. Some of us are still going to enjoy it.
And that's absolutely fair. It's just the way urbanmonkey worded it sounded like an absolute, saying "stop complaining and criticizing, it's not like you're forced to watch it."
what exactly happened during surgery? was it a human error that caused these complications or something else?
My grandfather had surgery on his throat (He ate spicy foods like jalepenos straight from a jar all the time) Over time it eroded it and he needed it fixed. His blood got infected from the operation and he died from it.
This could be similar
plastic surgery is a hell of a thing
Reminds me of when Conan was talking about how scientists developed a new plastic that could heal itself, being able to automatically repair any small cuts and abrasions. "And in related news, Joan Rivers will never die."
can a mod change the title to make it sound less dire then?
Just because she's "stable" doesn't mean she isn't in deep shit. This just means that currently her situation isn't getting worse.

George Carlin and Louie CK satirize society. The people going to their shows generally aren't the mouth breathers they're mocking. Making fun of someone's appearance is a shitty thing to do.
Pretty crazy to think she was 18 in 1951.
