A group of 53 Republican members of the House has sent a letter to the president asking for the removal of Kevin Jennings, the gay activist who now runs the Education Department's Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools. "It is clear that Mr. Jennings lacks the appropriate qualifications and ethical standards to serve in this capacity," the lawmakers write.
The letter was written by Rep. Steve King, who last week became the first lawmaker to call for Jennings to be fired. Among the signers of the new letter are some prominent members of the House GOP, including Republican Conference chairman Rep. Mike Pence, along with Reps. Paul Ryan, Darrell Issa, John Carter, Patrick McHenry, Spencer Bachus, Duncan Hunter, Michelle Bachmann, and 45 others.
"As the founder of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), Mr. Jennings has played an integral role in promoting homosexuality and pushing a pro-homosexual agenda in America’s schools—an agenda that runs counter to the values that many parents desire to instill in their children," the lawmakers write in the letter to Obama. "There is more to safe and drug free schools than can be accomplished from the narrow view of Mr. Jennings who has, for more than 20 years, almost exclusively focused on promoting the homosexual agenda."
Jennings has come under heavy criticism from many conservatives for, among other things, his work to introduce gay themes into the nation's classrooms, including elementary schools; the foreword he wrote for a book entitled Queering Elementary Education; his lack of experience in school safety and drug issues; some of the work of the organization he founded, the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network; and his handling of an incident in 1988 in which, as a high school teacher, Jennings was approached by a sophomore boy who confided that he had become involved with an older man, and Jennings, rather than notify school authorities, simply advised the boy to use a condom.
King says he believes the new letter might influence the administration, which has so far been staunch in its defense of Jennings. "A week ago, Barney Frank was declaring me to be a bigot," King says. "Now, we have 53 who have taken a stand on this….I think the president has to listen to what I think is the core of the mainstream values of America."
Here is the full text of the letter to Obama:
Dear Mr. President,
We respectfully request that you remove Kevin Jennings, the Assistant Deputy Secretary for the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools, from your Administration. It is clear that Mr. Jennings lacks the appropriate qualifications and ethical standards to serve in this capacity.
As the founder of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), Mr. Jennings has played an integral role in promoting homosexuality and pushing a pro-homosexual agenda in America’s schools—an agenda that runs counter to the values that many parents desire to instill in their children. As evidence of this, Mr. Jennings wrote the foreword for a book titled Queering Elementary Education: Advancing the Dialogue About Sexualities and Schooling. Throughout his career, Mr. Jennings has made it his mission to establish special protections for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered students to the exclusion of all other students. The totality of Mr. Jennings’ career has been to advocate for public affirmation of homosexuality. There is more to safe and drug free schools than can be accomplished from the narrow view of Mr. Jennings who has, for more than 20 years, almost exclusively focused on promoting the homosexual agenda.
Equally troubling is Mr. Jennings’ self-described history of ignoring the sexual abuse of a child. In his book, One Teacher in Ten, Mr. Jennings recounts a 15-year old student confiding in him that he had a sexual relationship with a much older man. Mr. Jennings’ only response was to ask if the underage boy used a condom. As a mandatory reporter, Mr. Jennings was required by law to report child abuse, including sex crimes. Mr. Jennings cannot serve as the “safe schools” czar when his record demonstrates a willingness to overlook the sexual abuse of a child.
As the “safe schools” czar, Mr. Jennings is also charged with ensuring our schools and students are drug free. It is clear that Mr. Jennings is unfit to serve in this capacity, as well. His own history of unrepentant drug and alcohol abuse indicates that he is of the opinion that getting drunk and high as a young person is acceptable. In his memoir, Mama’s Boy, Preacher’s Son, Mr. Jennings describes his use of illegal drugs, without expressing regret or acknowledging the devastating effects illegal drug use can have on a person’s life.
Everyone that deals with the education of the most vulnerable must be a positive role model. Our children are not blessed with the wisdom to discern and reject. Children presume the adults who educate them are approved by the larger society and their parents. Kevin Jennings cannot gain the approval of parents who want their children safe and their schools drug free. You should replace him with someone who has a record of educating children in a safe and moral environment.
Given these very serious issues with Mr. Jennings’ record, we urge you to remove him immediately.
The signers of the letter are: King; Alexander; Aderholt; Akin; Austria; Bachmann; Bachus; Bartlett; Barton; Boozman; Broun; Brown, H.; Carter; Chaffetz; Coffman; Cole; Conaway; Davis, Geoff; Fallin; Fleming; Foxx; Franks; Garret; Gingrey; Gohmert; Hunter; Issa; Jordan; Lamborn; Latta; Luetkemeyer; Marchant; McClintock; McHenry; McKeon; McMorris; Mica; Miller, J.; Myrick; Neugebauer; Olson, P.; Pence; Pitts; Posey; Rogers; Rooney; Ryan, Paul; Shuster; Smith, C.; Smith, L.; Wamp; Westmoreland; and Jones, Walter.
There is a list floating around of books he recommended to grades 7-12, most of them which are the sort of crazy sexual shit that you would think that only a furry would imagine.
Republicans(and by that I mean "politicians in general") complaining about someone's ethical qualifications- now THAT'S comedy!

He's an idiot and should be fired. Unfortunately, anyone who fires him will be called a homophobe.
It's sad how much the republican party had degraded over the years.
Now they want someone removed because he doesn't hate homosexuals.
Somehow condoning people to freely express their sexuality makes you a threat to children across the country.

Yeah we need to go back to the good old days when the republican party loved homosexuals
I did a great job.:350:

Never post a news thread again
Yeah we need to go back to the good old days when the republican party loved homosexuals
More or less back when the republican party wasn't so retarded.
Now they side with the willfully ignorant christians because they want a few free votes, instead of supporting freedom. American revolution for example.

You don't know anything

My god.
I've heard about him, he actually does seem to deserve to be fired. And as much as I support the gay community, because it is natural human behavior, I think introducing gay themes into grade school is just wrong, as it sways what should be a natural decision. Damn, that was a pretty long run on sentence. Anyway, guy needs to be fired, but not for supporting gays.
The issue of homosexuality shouldn't be in schools. Math, science, literature and history should be. Politics has no place there.
You don't know anything
And somehow you do?
I know a bit about history, but I suppose since you're an mod that makes you a pro.
Look at their current political standings, they are basically forcing the people in their party to support the Iraq war, oppose government healthcare, oppose gay marriage and abortion, among other things.
I thought the point of government was that the people can elect a person that will run the country the way they want it to be, not have a few people tell the leaders what they can and can't support.

Its not that, its that books and tactics he's suggesting is telling them that this man is trying to more or less forcefully hypersexualize children which is something that parents are not wanting.
Here's some books he'd like children reading:
1.Reflections of a Rock Lobster
2. Queer 13 <- this one's a big giveaway by title alone.
3. Revolutionary Voices
4. In Your Face
5. Passages of Pride
Now think about this: Do you really want to have 4th grade children in your favorite valve game (which already happens) talking about having sex in the bathroom with a 3rd grader (which isn't happening...yet)

we also learn how to call the other children fags and what it means to truly hate someone
you can't really say there are only a few things you learn at school, because the social aspect in america is predominant
it's better to educate them about this bit than to let them run about actually believing gay people provide oral sex to satan on a daily basis for their own homoerotic pleasure, as their dumbass fucking parents believe

Republicans whining over stupid shit?
this is news?

Me being a mod has nothing to do with how terrible your posts are. Here are some highlights:
-These republicans are not asking for Kevin Jennings to be fired because he "doesn't hate homosexuals," it is for a plethora of other reasons involving sex education at a very early age and tolerance of child abuse, which you would know if you bothered to read the article.
-The republican party has always held anti-gay, family-values positions. There is absolutely nothing uncharacteristic about what they are doing here. They're reacting to a radical-left figurehead appointed by Obama, which they have every right and reason to do.
-The American Revolution was in 1776. The Republican Party was founded in 1854. THERE WERE NO REPUBLICANS IN THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION.
You are talking out of your ass. Stop. Your posts make people physically sick.

When has the right ever been pro-gay rights? In fact, let's go back 50-60 years, when it wasn't just gays but blacks and women that they were opposing rights for.
The issue of homosexuality shouldn't be in schools. Math, science, literature and history should be. Politics has no place there.
Right, but children should be allowed to go about treating homosexuals like shit, right?
When has the right ever been pro-gay rights? In fact, let's go back 50-60 years, when it wasn't just gays but blacks and women that they were opposing rights for.
Do remember that it was the Republicans that freed the slaves.

I don't know about you but my parents raised me to be tolerant of everyone with a different belief than i do. If i ever said "That's gay", my dad would get pissed. and i would deserve it.
plus:
OH NOES DE GAYZ R BAD CUZ DEY TRY TO RECROOT CHILDERN!!! D:
Right, but children should be allowed to go about treating homosexuals like shit, right?
Oh yes, because if children aren't properly "educated" about them, they *automatically* treat them "like shit".

The Republicans really just wanted all the colonies' oil for themselves

while you're pretty much spot on, don't you think the Republican's are a LITTLE biased towards jennings because he's gay?

Do you remember that the Republican's were completely different then they are now?

I don't think you do
while you're pretty much spot on, don't you think the Republican's are a LITTLE biased towards jennings because he's gay?
Absolutely, but I doubt all of those who signed this petition would call for him to be fired for that reason alone.
When has the right ever been pro-gay rights? In fact, let's go back 50-60 years, when it wasn't just gays but blacks and women that they were opposing rights for.
I wasn't talking about gay rights. I was talking about how they got their political standings.
Now they only listen to the ignorant Christians.
Ugh, I'm so sicking of hearing about values.
He may be flawed in what he is doing, but that doesn't change the reasons they have for wanting him fired, which are far more flawed.
That aside, those 53 Republicans can go fuck themselves because homophobia is rampant in schools and abroad and the fact of the matter is that a huge percentage of teen suicides are GLBT youth, and everything needs to be done to bring down this statistic and to make people feel more comfortable being themselves in school, because it's hard enough being straight and trying to be accepted in school, nevermind existing in a demographic that everyone around you seems to hate and make fun of.
Oh yes, because if children aren't properly "educated" about them, they *automatically* treat them "like shit".
You REALLY don't know what you're talking about.
So you're telling me discrimination and terms like "that's gay" or "faggot" do not exist? Or that it's somewhere near zero?
you are an ignorant and deluded fuck, you know that?
Oh yes, because if children aren't properly "educated" about them, they *automatically* treat them "like shit".
No, their parents teach them to act like shit
out of ignorance
education removes ignorance

you are just as bad using the existence of derogatory terms as an example
Absolutely, but I doubt all of those who signed this petition would call for him to be fired for that reason alone.
but of course, but it's mostly the bias. Just look at what they said that he was pushing the "homosexual agenda."
it's pretty obvious
