After reports that iOS 6's new Do Not Disturb feature stopped resetting according to schedule on New Year's Day, Apple says scheduling won't work until next Tuesday, January 7.
The Do Not Disturb feature was added to iOS 6 in order to silence what might otherwise be distracting notifications, like those during a meeting or while sleeping. Users can manually turn Do Not Disturb on or off, or can set a scheduled time for Do Not Disturb to kick in automatically and then reset later. For instance, many users set Do Not Disturb to turn on around bedtime and reset the following day.
However, users discovered on January 1 that Do Not Disturb did not automatically reset as scheduled. Furthermore, after manually resetting, it wouldn't engage as scheduled that evening.
We contacted Apple when the problem still had not sorted itself out on Wednesday morning. A company spokesperson declined to comment specifically on the cause, but instead pointed us to a knowledge base article published on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Apple, "Do Not Disturb scheduling feature will resume normal functionality after January 7, 2013." Until then, iOS 6 users are stuck manually turning Do Not Disturb on or off as needed.
This doesn't really have any significance at all. So people have to deal with their phones going off when people call them. Put them on vibrate.
Its a feature.
uh a lot of people use scheduled do not disturb because its nice
when its a headline feature, it would make sense to you know
test it through a new year
[editline]2nd January 2013[/editline]
if you hadn't noticed it was on, you wouldn't have gotten any phone call rings while your screen was off
Its a feature.
yup, still isn't funny
Is it just me or has iOS fucked up on at least one feature every new year?
How long ago was it the alarm clock completely buggering up?
every daylight savings time switch
lol
yup, still isn't funny
I think you took that the wrong way, i think he meant to reply to the comment above his. But seriously it is a headline feature of the device, it should work all the time. It's like the features of the wii u not being enabled on release
Not as bad as Android completely forgetting to include december
Not as bad as Android completely forgetting to include december
in something that you could do from gmail contacts
DND mode really isn't even that obvious, and for someone who has it set and never knows what the icon looks like, i could see them thinking that the moon just means dnd is scheduled to turn on

That was a bug in setting contact's birthdays in the People app, of which less than 1% of Android users have the option of using. Specifically, Nexus 4 or 7 owners who upgraded to 4.2.
I don't get how this bug lasts until the 7th - what kind of random arbitrary date is that?
Why are Apple so useless when it comes to new year. How can they screw up every year.
You would think they would've learned to test dates like New Years, Feb 29, DST days, etc with features that rely on the calendar or clock.

"So what if it doesn't work? We'll just apologize and release an update to fix it. It's not like they'll stop using the phones over this."

Orthodox Christmas gift
I never got why Apple or even any mobile OS ever added a message broadcast system so Apple could send out a message to every iOS 6 device about this problem.
If mobile operators can do it then why can't Apple do it.. Besides them using your phone number since you are registered by them

Mobile operators can do it because of the way the mobile network works, they send out service messages.
Of course there is nothing stopping Apple or Google or RIM writing a simple push messaging app that sits there waiting for messages like this.
What is it with mobile operating systems and dates? iOS has issues like this, Android goes without December in an update, etc. The last time a PC of mine ever had a time issue was actually Y2K (Something freaked out and set the time back, I corrected it and it continued fine)
Edit: Most phones these days have GPS units built in, which give precise time, how can you stuff this up?

Because the various thousands of combinations of date and time systems throughout the world are all terrible and overly complex.

Pff, who needs it.

Well that's one way of looking at it.
