I recieved a strange painting from my mum's friend before he died. - General

My mum's friend gave out four of his 700+ paintings to a few friends a week before dieing, I barely knew him but my mum and him were close, they've been friends for years. He gave my mum a creepy elephant painting which she feels is way too strange to be hung on the wall so it's stored in the attic for now, he gave me a strange looking alien/fire gun wielding.. thing (I've only seen him twice, once when I was around 15 years old after he dropped by to speak with my mum and just a week ago when he visited again with the paintings, it's strange that he requested I have this painting). Here is a couple of photos of the picture hung on my wall, my mum wants me to take it down as he only passed away two days ago and they were close friends, she doesn't want to be reminded every time she walks past my room and peeks in. He has painted some really weird paintings in the past, the one he gave my mum that she refuses to put up is a bunch of elephants and a few of them are killing their young.

Forgot to mention, it was painted 43 years ago.

It's a prototype for his army of flying monkey-humans.

Pretty baller, although I have no idea what the fuck it is.

Who is the artist? Also the background on that painting of his is really awesome looking.

The face looks bumped? Is it textured at all?

You should check IMBD or a movie website and look at Sci-fi movies and shows from when it was painting, he may have pulled inspiration from it. Or, he might of had hell of an LSD trip.

It says at the bottom, D.Marrill, can't find anything online about him though, he wasn't very outgoing and never owned a computer from what I know so I doubt he'd post a portfolio or anything, according to my mum he used to sit in his house for months and just paint, not seeing anyone, he lived off his brothers inheritance, she used to visit him every year or so and you couldn't see the walls from all his paintings, even the bathroom was just covered in paintings and every room even the kitchen had paint stains and whatnot.

It's haunted.

I'm just going by what it says on the back, although wait that might be the frame.. I don't really want to remove the painting from the frame itself, the back is a sort of woody texture but softer, like cardboard/wood, that's what it's wrote on. It's good to know what it is atleast, quite fitting too.

That Necron is eerily similar to the painting! Fantastic painting, especially considering it's age. It's held up nicely.

Does your mother's friend happen to like sci-fi movies or video games?

Even the pose is very similar to the Necron standard pose.
