I bet by now a million of these "Post your" kind of threads are up but just because I'm bored and feel like listening to music while on FP why not make a thread like this? The band that i love and have been into for a couple years is one called Operation Ivy "Operation Ivy was an influential ska punk band formed in Albany, California. The band is well known as the pioneers of ska-core, a genre that fuses elements of hardcore with ska punk." The band formed in the 80's includes: * Jesse Michaels - vocals * Tim Armstrong (Lint) - guitar, lyrics and vocals * Matt Freeman (Matt McCall) - bass and vocals * Dave Mello - drums and vocals You may know Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman from a band called Rancid Although not widely listened to Operation Ivy was one of the original Ska-Punk bands and has influenced many other bands. Operation Ivy was also known for collaborating with green day back before green day made it big They both often played at a venue called The Gilman. The band that i feel is the most similar to operation ivy is a band called The Assorted Jelly Beans So if you enjoy them check operation Ivy out or if you like AJB then check Operation ivy out Here's a couple songs and pictures for you. One thing i forgot to mention is that green day often covers operation ivy songs and they usually preform a song called "Knowledge" by operation ivy. In this live cover they like to pull members of the audience on stage and preform the song. Note: I Liked early green day but i lost all respect when they started to wear fucking eye liner and suits There ya have it feel free to post any of your favorite music Just pointing out that some of these are unreleased and may vary in quality but they are some of my favorites http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glvJBa5vGNw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DP3Kc7L3TUA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyNEBSsd3Gw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9zIFfE8IkU

Muse, Kasabian, and Red Hot Chili Peppers are my favorite bands. [editline]09:44PM[/editline] Also, not going to move this to fast threads because we will probably get more actual content of good music here.
Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer, MD.45, Dragonforce, Machinae Supremacy and Rush are my favourites. There's the occasional odd song from random artists too, but I can't remember any of them.
Red hot chili peppers for sure, I mean.... I am in a regulary gigging RHCP tribute band (me being flea.. as much as I can be a complete nutter) They are currently working on their next album after they had a long rest. I am sure it's going to be great, they've never really made a song I couldn't enjoy. Favorite band of all time. I WILL make it to their next show, I will kick myself if I miss them again...

I sure can't play as good as him but damnit i love trying.
Heey i didn't know the community is infested with bass players :-P
311 They're a kick ass mix Reggae, Rock, Funk, and Rap. Their music is pretty sweet but the band really shines when playing live. They tour at least once every year and hold a massive 6 hour concert every other year on March 11th. Raddiohead, Modwheelmood, Modest Mouse, In Flames, Primus.
Favourite band is between Epica and Nightwish, they're both symphonic metal, but I find Epica's stuff darker Epica Indigo/Obsessive Devotion The Last Crusade Chasing the Dragong (One of my favourites) Nightwish The Siren Ghost Love Score Poet and the Pendulum
Don't know but I've listening to a lot of MGMT a lot lately. They're really good, remind me of Pink Floyd.
When people ask me what my favourite band is, I often reply with Metallica, but it isn't as much the music making them my favourite as much as the emotional aspect making them my favourite. Not saying I don't absolutely love the music, though. Other bands would be Nevermore, Megadeth, Týr and lately Ensiferum and Meshuggah too. Favourite artist probably has to be Dan Swanö.

Pixies are one of my favorite bands. They formed in 1986. Lineup includes Black Francis, Joey Santiago, Kim Deal, and David Lovering. Pixies have composed Five studio albums to date. Including Come On Pilgrim, Surfer Rosa, Doolittle, Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde. Check them out. You'll like them. Kim Deal looks like a dude in that picture.
My favourite band would have to be the Foo Fighters. When Kurt Cobain died, Dave Grohl didn't let his high point down and continued making amazing music. Sadly there most recent stuff hasn't been the best but they are still a lot better than many other bands of today. My favorite would probably be Plastic Tree. Can't really describe their style, alternate rock is probably the most fitting but their style doesn't stay the same for very long at all and with 9 albums it gets pretty hard to put them into a genre. A few random favorites of mine. My favourite band is one of these two: Metallica Do I really need to explain who they are? OR Enter Shikari They are so awesome! I love the mix between synths + electronic music and hardcore metalish music. My friend really like Mastadon. I've heard a few of their songs. Dunno the names, but they were alright. I should give them another listen.
This band has the greatest drummer of all time Jaki Liebezeit. All of them were extremely special (Michael Karoli, Irmin Shmidt, Holger Czukay) musicians. But I don't care what anyone says. This band has gone without proper recognition for too long. Can weren't just any band.. they truly were music HEROES. They knew exactly what they were doing from the beginning (although I'm not too interested in their later albums) and they were able to fuse world rhythms, jazz, classical and rock together to create the most epic music. I went through a period where "Halleluhwah" cued in my head every time I woke up in the mornings. I've played their music while bombing down hills on skateboards and it makes the entire experience unlike anything. I used to throw on my big ass Sony monitor headphones and just walk around listening to Tago Mago and it would force me to smile and enjoy everything. It's pretty much equivalent to getting really stoned and having the time of your life.. However, the free concert has not only fascinated me and driven me absolutely bonkers but has also terrified me just recently. I finally realized that they must have been on something during the concert. Jaki for one looks like he just ran out of the jungle, Shmidt might not even be fucked up because he's a nut in general, Czukay is playing these crazy melodies on bass that sound like foghorns, Karoli is just floating on his gypsy vibes and Damo is flailing on stage and screaming unrecognizable words... Not to denounce them for taking drugs, they may have been completely sober for all I know. But what I do know is that they are very intense and on edge 90% of the time before they break into a nice version of what I think is "One More Night" before they even gave it a title. One thing about the free concert that you can notice is that they almost showcase songs off of future albums in the performance. If you listen to a lot of their music you can trace similarities to the free concert. But in all, the band recorded so much improvised and written material that it is almost impossible to actually know when they came up with any of their songs I think. Well, heres to CAN for being my most favorite group and for influencing me to listen to all types of music, seriously practice drums (thanks Jaki) and to master my instruments. And I must say!! This band should not go without recognition whatsoever. They are extremely important! This is NOT just a personal opinion. In the future, once their music catches up with time, they will find their place of honor. Each of these musicians are masters of their instruments and have defined themselves musically. There are many musicians out there that are considered to be very talented today because of how fast they can play or how complex they can be while playing; this band proves that it is not all about speed or complexity but it is about the true bond between the instrument and the player. They separated the human force from their instruments and instead discovered how to combine and manipulate each instruments physical sound to illustrate exactly what they wanted. There was a divine connection between themselves and the instruments; It was not human. This is alien sound (not literally). They knew far too much about what they were doing.. None of that might have made sense, I didn't sleep last night.. If you haven't listened to this band, I strongly encourage you, regardless of musical preference, to put some time aside to experience this. Listen to Tago Mago, that is the album I first listened to. Don't skip tracks, don't pause, just indulge yourself in something different and I'm almost 100% positive you will gain something from it. You may be confused, you might be overwhelmed, you might be highly influenced or you could be shocked. All in all, you will get SOMETHING from this unlike so many other crap weak albums that are mastered by computers to sound perfect, consumer crap that has existed for so long. I've never spoke so highly of a band in my life (I'm 18 and I've listened to a lot of music) and there have been a lot of bands that I have loved ( Pink Floyd, allman brothers, srv, hendrix all of the classics) but nothing compares to this.
Right now my favorite band would have to be FGFC820. They are the most orgasmic dark electro/EBM artist currently around.
Formed in 2004, FGFC820 is the harsh EBM project from well-known and respected New York City DJs, Rexx Arkana and Dräcos. Drawing on joint and separate influences ranging from old school industrial to modern gabber, Arkana and Dräcos combine to create a sound that is at once melodic and relentlessly rhythmic, "bringing the 'thump' back to EBM", as one reviewer recently put it. In addition to his 20 years of experience as both a DJ and promoter - having worked with everyone from industrial stalwarts Skinny Puppy and Ministry to newer stars Covenant and VNV Nation - Rexx Arkana is also the founder of the scene supergroup Bruderschaft. A collaboration of some of the electronic music world's top talents, Bruderschaft drew together, under Arkana's leadership, members of VNV Nation, Covenant, Apoptygma Berzerk and Icon of Coil in a charitable effort to benefit cancer research and treatment. As an artist in his own right, Arkana has also written lyrics and/or recorded vocals for such prominent underground acts as The Retrosic (New World Order), Neikka RPM (Storm of Hell), and davaNtage side project, Supreme Court (Mass Media Murder). Dräcos spent the last half of the 90s in Boston where he graduated from Berklee College of Music. While in Boston, Dräcos also recorded and performed live with the industrial group, Disciples of Astaroth. In 1999, Dräcos relocated to NYC where he began building a bigger name for himself as a DJ for the some of the scenes' most notorious parties which later led to international gigs such as Mexico City and Leipzig, Germany. Dräcos also started Subsurface Productions to encompass all of his various projects, since he had begun DJing and releasing original tracks/remixes under his various aliases... such as his track "Sacrilege" which was recorded under his 'Von Strecker' alias and chosen to represent the gabba genre on the "Definitive - Elevated" album from England's 42Records. As veteran DJs, it's not surprising their compositions inspire movement, nor that their messages - be them political or cultural - have been enslaved by the beat. ReGen Magazine recently wrote: "FGFC820 is perhaps the best example of pure, beat-driven EBM to be unleashed onto the scene in years. The rhythms pound their way into your psyche with militaristic grandeur, stomping like a Teutonic march the likes of which have been mostly lost in this new age of synthpop wannabes."
http://www.fgfc820.com/ Society Democracy Welcome to Bagdhad
My favorite band is System but everyone already knows that anyway so let me tell you about Danzig. Glenn Danzig is a tiny man with a super deep voice that sounds like pure sex. If you want some nice hard rock to listen to this is great. Ok that's obviously their most popular song, but that entire album is the best ever. Also he is in ATHF.
