MILTON, FL (WKRG/CNN) – A Florida fisherman made the catch of a lifetime: an 800-pound shark. But surprisingly, this is one tale the fisherman would rather keep under wraps. Joey Polk was videoed reeling in this 805-pound Mako shark Tuesday night, with his cousins Earnie Polk and Kenny Peterson documenting the tremendous haul. "It's unbelievable," Joey Polk said. "There are people in their lifetime that will never know that type of excitement." If Polk had his druthers, he wouldn't tell anyone about it – he says they keep a low profile. They don't want people trying to ban land-based shark fishing, and they don't want to scare off tourists with the impression the Gulf is full of sharks.
KPHO Hot damn, would kill to catch a fish like that.
jesus motherfucking christ. My phobias of the ocean are screaming.
That's quite a catch. I didn't think people caught sharks from dry land.
I see Florida Man is out of prison now, good to see him rehabilitated.
I see Florida Man is out of prison now, good to see him rehabilitated.
Florida man is too cool for prison. He escaped and tried to ride a shark to freedom but instead he forgot what he was doing and dragged it out to shore.
Shame he had to kill it :(
Shame he had to kill it :(
it's not like it goes to waste, they eat it
We're gonna need a bigger b-... shore.
Shame he had to kill it :(
Why did they have to anyways?
Why did they have to anyways?
...To..to eat it?
When I saw Florida Man Catches ... I definitely assumed it would be fire or something.
Shame he had to kill it :(
Would've probably died anyway. Sharks shouldn't be pulled up on land.
Would've probably died anyway. Sharks shouldn't be pulled up on land.
It's considered bad practice to pull just about any fish on land unless you plan on eating it. IIRC it really fucks up their scales and skin. It's like being dragged behind a truck, in this case you have a hook in your mouth, and being dragged across boulders, and sand paper.
it could've been rehabilitated though they should've just tased it
Should have shot it in the legs.
When I saw Florida Man Catches ... I definitely assumed it would be fire or something.
You must be one hell of a slow reader.
Great, a meme that came back for revenge.
Should have shot it in the legs.
Any decently trained individual should be able to easily disarm it.
Should have shot it in the legs.
Nah man, everyone knows you need to pepper-spray the bullets before shooting at the legs.

Oh yeah I remember this. My dad watched him reel it in further down the beach from where he was. Saw him and 2 of his buddies + a few other fishermen drag it down the beach to his truck. The guy even said that he didn't want any publicity before and after the photo was posted to FB, but because of the pressure (from other locals and the media) he decided to do the interview that was offered to him later on. He doesn't want anyone to be afraid of the area due to the shark being there, hence why the exact area was never released (stated as "on a Gulf Coast beach near Navarre"). It would actually drive tourism down believe it or not. It's happened before, but on a smaller and non-publicized scale with a few smaller sharks near that same area.
Imagine kayaking off shore and this thing swimming up next to you.
Huh and here I thought fishing sharks from a beach in Runescape was silly.
That shark is so disappointed.
When I saw Florida Man Catches ... I definitely assumed it would be fire or something.
Florida Man catches fire. Fire escapes.
This happened where I live. And it's common, recently. People are catching 500, 600, 800lb Mako sharks right at the shore. Some fish is migrating and all that bullshit out in the gulf, oil wells and the like, are pushing them closer to shore, so the sharks that hunt them are closer to the shore, also. That's what I've been hearing, anyway. Here's another photo, same guy
