Dogs are so wonderfully loyal it's tragic. I've heard people call dogs stupid and smelly and slobbery but honestly none of that matters to me. When a dog really forms a bond with someone I imagine that's pretty damn close to the thing we call love at least for them. And honestly that is something I've never experienced with any other animal. I honestly cant imagine what those dogs are thinking, they probably don't understand whats happened to their friend. It really just makes me sad to think about.

if it he is fully aware of the situation, then he is probably grieving in a similar way to everyone else. dog's don't really "cry", humans are one of the few animals that tear up out of sadness. it is probably depressed, though.
