UK to 'scale down' climate change and illegal wildlife measures to bring in post-Brexit trade
The UK Government plans to water down regulations surrounding climate change and illegal wildlife trading in an effort to help secure post-Brexit trade, civil service documents have reportedly revealed.
Tim Hitchens, the director general of economic and consular affairs at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), will say in a speech later this month that the UK must change its focus to carry out Prime Minister Theresa May’s vision of the country as a “great, global trading nation”.
“You have a crucial role to play in posts in implementing our new approach to prosperity against the huge changes stemming from last year’s Brexit vote,” the notes seen by The Sunday Times read.
...
“The Government promised in its manifesto and in the recent Great Repeal Bill White Paper to leave the environment in a better state for future generations," he said.
"These documents - if genuine - fly in the face of these commitments, undermining government credibility."

You motherfuckers. I knew it would happen but those utter flaming bastards.
Combine that with the fact that us Ecologists/Conservationists are already expecting to be hit pretty bad by Brexit...
Edit:
Man, what a 5000th post to have.
Fuck Brexit.
Just who the fuck are they hoping to trade with by scaling back these measures? How the hell does this foster trade?
A changing focus would reportedly make it easier for the UK to sign deals with Africa and Latin America.

Shit, missed that bit
I still wanna know the how part, though. And also why
They're really quite dickheads aren't they?
What's next? Will """"clean"""" coal be considered the next best energy source?
Something tells me that wildlife related economic business isn't really a particularly huge trade for the UK?
Seems kinda desperate to me. Plus there's the ongoing growth of the alternative energy sector...

coming up next: healthy cigarrettes

but you don't understand, if it hurts people and animals it has to be worth doing!
Why is it people have to do "bad but necessary" things to improve a bad situation they themselves caused? Like performing a back alley coathanger abortion because you decided not to wear condoms.
Did we go back into the dark ages?

or the condom ruptured or the person was raped or they were refused abortions at a "legitimate" clinic for whatever reason
this is not a good comparison.

I think a better comparison would be having to resort to getting a shitload of payday loans because your awful spending habits destroyed your savings and credit rating.
It's necessary because you need that money for the thing got to pay for, but it's bad as you're now in real debt that could have been avoided if someone had actually educated you on handling your money.
The parent is taking on some strange behaviour from its deranged child from overseas.
Of course. The whole time, they were complaining about regulations and laws from the EU...
Now they've got their sovereignty.
The right wing will be a major factor in the death of the Earth.
i wonder what'll happen to scotland
The right wing will be a major factor in the death of the Earth.
nah man earth and life will be fine worse things have happened to both. humanity is gonna be in trouble tho
Scale back illegal wildlife measures?
What are they planning on trading exactly?
Are they holding out for the unlikely scenario where someone says
"yes we will sell you cheap grain but you must agree, as part of the deal, to release 1000 lions into your forests over the next year"
I think that now, everyone should be able to collectively agree that "waiting and seeing what happens" is a really shite idea when it comes to politics
We're only going to see more of this over the coming months. Cons using brexit to push through their agenda under the pretence of preparing for it.
Environmentalism is first on the block, next up is workers rights, they'll be up talking about "cutting red tape" aka fucking over the worker soon enough because apparently the only way for us to survive is to go back to a post industrial wasteland full of sweatshops and pollution.
The fact that anybody tried to portray brexit as a victory for the working class is deeply worrying and equal parts enraging.

It was a pretty obvious scam, really, rile the working classes up against a supposedly distant and imperious EU (Even though the UK has agreed to every law they've "imposed" upon us), with a good helping of "Muh immigrants", get them to vote for Brexit, and use it to roll us back to the Victorian-esque values that the Tories lust over.
Fuck the earth, it's animals, human rights and the poor. Thanks for allowing Brexit and everything else Tories. Nice one.
who even needs a functioning eco-system lol it's not like humans can't live without one
We're fucked, aren't we?
