I posted a rough demo a long time ago, but this is the final product, let me know how you think it turned out.

Why post on facepunch when nobody here has any actual taste in music

I think maybe he wants some critique and opinions about his music? Hear that word? Opinions? Sound familiar? Didn't think so.
About this thingy: I like the way you use volume to build moments and impact, but I think you have a little exaggerated, The volume drops and rises so suddenly, it is pretty annoying. Considering I haven't heard the original this may be intentional, but I think you should definitely do it slightly more subtly.
I don't like that bassy drum thing. It's very muddy and it doesn't fit in the otherwise clean and trebly mix.
That bell or whatever at around 4 minutes is way too loud.
Yeah okay, all in all there's a lot of mud here. You should clean the lower mid frequencies with some eq. 150-300 hz or so.

Yeah most of it is intentional, I tried to match Hans' insanely high bass percussion mix. It sounds clear to be honest on most headphones, but when I bought myself some new headphones a day ago, (different brand) all of a sudden the song sounds muddy as you're describing. To the point that I can't listen to it at all at full volume
It may be the way the headphones add treble/gain or bass to the music, but its an interesting contrast.
About the original: it's a mix of many electronic sounds with a cathedral type religious tone, it's difficult to explain if you haven't watched the film it was written for, but for example, the bell at 4 minutes is a cathedral chime which is the same volume as it was in the real track

I have my shitty speakers right now, but they are relatively trebly, so honestly I would take out some of those low mids for sure.
I like it at some points, but at other points it just sounds really weird.

[QUOTE=Stick it in her pooper;34973384]Does this sound just as bad?

Obviously not.
Those bassy drums have a whole load more of high end, and it is generally speaking a lot more dynamic and unmuddy.
And I wouldn't say your thingy sounds bad, just not that good. Fix the muddiness and it's a whole lot better already.

sounds the same to me tbqh, maybe you should buy some headphones.
edit: I'll end up touching up the percussion bass mix regardless I suppose, there's only so much I can do with virtual sounds though. I almost need to record them in real life for it to sound as high end as the original.
I have the original percussion stems from the song, and I emulated it the best way possible, which is why your comment is so surprising. (and it sounds clear as day to some people)

Well it is definitely different. It doesn't matter to me if you had hans zimmer himself remake it for you, doesn't make it any different. It shouldn't matter if I have headphones or not, if two songs sound different on the same speakers, they are different(my good headphones are being fixed, as a sidenote).
The problem with hearing your own music is that it will usually sound different to you since you've made it, heard it so many times. It's hard to look at it objectively.

I'll do eq work on the "Chorus" parts of the song and do what I can to sweep out the muddiness in the bass drums at some point.
------
done, re did all percussion and the core structure of the sound was changed, also fixed volumes, added some more instruments (with their own parts)
not sure how much you'll notice without knowing what to look for though
added new version to the op
sounds good to me
