But in the seriousness of the situation, the irony of Kerry’s next comments may have gone missed. ”You just don’t in the 21st century behave in 19th century fashion by invading another country on completely trumped up pretext,” he said.
He went on to repeat the assertion on Meet the Press, keeping a straight face as he told host David Gregory: ”You just don’t invade another country on phony pretext in order to assert your interests.”
What they needed was a legitimate trumped up pretext.
"hey don't do like we did for iraq and afghanstan when we went hurr hurr nuclear weapons"
IRONIC
As amusing as it is coming from the US, in an ideal world it would hold true.
I would HOPE that he is implying that the U.S. learned from its mistakes in the Middle East...
But we all know we haven't, deep down.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. But srsly, Lol.
sure it's kinda funny/hypocritical, but also consider, the taliban regime in afghanistan was a violent and oppressive one, and saddam hussein was literal human garbage
I'd like to point out to everyone here -- Kerry was strongly AGAINST American intervention in the Middle East.

As in, he was George H. W. Bush's political opponent in 2004.
This:

Doesn't imply this.

Yeah, but it's still true.

Yes but his party platform did
I don't get why you guys are going all "IRONY!!!1". Kerry isn't the one who started the Iraq and Afghan wars.
It is like saying irony if England denounced some random empire because in history they once were an empire.

He is speaking on behalf of the American empire which typically engages in acts of the breakage of sovereignty of nations. Thus it is ironic.

Can we not say American Empire?
"hey don't do like we did for iraq and afghanstan when we went hurr hurr nuclear weapons"
IRONIC
Different administration. Ironic is when Bush says that.

IRONIC
Because the US did stupid shit doesn't mean people can also do stupid shit on the same ground.
Also Iraq had nothing to do with Obama's administration so yeah.
The American people on these boards are well educated and nice, so where the hell do those idiots leading your country come from?
sure it's kinda funny/hypocritical, but also consider, the taliban regime in afghanistan was a violent and oppressive one, and saddam hussein was literal human garbage
Too bad the way we went about getting rid of Saddam ruined the country's infrastructure.
Can we not say American Empire?
American hegemonic conglomerate then?
Holy shit Kerry is a fucking terrible speaker. No matter what he will find a way with words to make himself look like an idiot.
Kerry is such a bumbling idiot

Families of politics and money
America lost a whole lot of international credibility and goodwill when it started the war in Iraq in 2003. It seems that the time to pay for that has come. There's a big difference whether the term "World police" is used ironically or not.

What does that mean?

American otherkin congregation?

That US can't call for another nation's territorial sovereignity without some sort of ironic echo. It's true that administration has changed, but it's also true that past administrations' decisions stay with the state, good or bad. IMHO, if US had worked the Iraq situation through international community instead of going "maverick", its word would now have more weight, not having distanced the allies it gathered in 2001. Now it is all too easy for Russia to play these calls as "western hypocrisy".
Today, western Europe's and NATO's voice weighs less than ever in the last fifty years, and Russia is more free to operate if other BRIC countries remain favorable.
Wow it's almost like Kerry is part of the political group that opposed the most recent invasions based on trumped-up pretext, and is actually sticking to his beliefs that differ from the previous administration
but the american government is a hive mind so it's ironic right guys
But...there's so much oil in Russia. How can we resist declaring war on trumped up pretexts?!

This is a dumb logical fallacy that you want to be played out for national pride or something.

Zillermaster55 is such an eloquent genius.
