The mid-winter lull broke a record set last year when the city went 10 days from February 13 to 22 without a homicide. "No murder yesterday. That means eleven consecutive days," a police spokesman told AFP. He said no murders have been reported in the city since February 2.
Now who's going to be the cunt that breaks this sick combo
Or maybe they are getting better at hiding it....
those double edged sword news headlines
Just wait until they find 11 bodies in a cellar somewhere.
They're probably all being hidden in derelict houses.
Well someone better fix that.
So is this New York the city or New York the state?
So is this New York the city or New York the state?
The city, it says in the article.
Jesus Christ that's awful. 11 days without a murder is a reason to celebrate? Wow.
;47133667']Jesus Christ that's awful. 11 days without a murder is a reason to celebrate? Wow.
when you're working on as big of a scale as New York City, murders are pretty common
NYC's crime rate is honestly pretty low for the size of the city.
So it's very probable that somebody in New York is going to get murdered tonight. If I were the residents of New York, I'd stay inside.

Most cities in America are much safer than they were about twenty or thirty years ago.
As far as I'm concerned, when it's a matter of, "No reported cases!" I'm just going to be polite and call bullshit. Cities of that size always have a darker side to them. If they were to account for missing people reports that have gone cold, then you would probably see a sharp increase of possible murder cases.
;47133667']Jesus Christ that's awful. 11 days without a murder is a reason to celebrate? Wow.
That may be a big shocker but murders tend to be really common in large scale cities
Just wait until they find 11 bodies in a cellar somewhere.
Still wouldn't matter, this is reported murders, not murders that have happened. If 11 bodies were found, that would only count once and on the day they're found.
So it's very probable that somebody in New York is going to get murdered tonight. If I were the residents of New York, I'd stay inside.
that's not how statistics work :v:
So it's very probable that somebody in New York is going to get murdered tonight. If I were the residents of New York, I'd stay inside.
technically the chances are the same every day, it's just the pure randomness of it all has graced a few lucky days. also this could be a bit related to the fact that the entire area has been buried in snow several times over the past few weeks and people aren't capable/willing to get out and around dangerous situations. there's probably been a spike of deaths by heart attack while shoveling though
So it's very probable that somebody in New York is going to get murdered tonight. If I were the residents of New York, I'd stay inside.
It's like bringing a bomb on a plane to decrease the chance of someone else bringing a bomb on a plane
Probably because it's too fucking cold outside to do anything.
Well, at least according to wikipedia, the amount per year is pretty close to the average of one a day (seems surprisingly low when you look at other decades/years). So honestly, going by that, there very well could be a possibility only one or two people, hell, even zero, have been murdered in these past 11 days. Again, yeah, only 11 days without any reports, but how many murders end up never being discovered? It's probably like only 10-20%. It is kinda like a bad workplace joke or something hearing it's so far only been 11 days without reported murders, though.
Can you put city in the title next time?
Now if only Philadelphia could go a minute without a murder.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambler%27s_fallacy
This doesn't really apply since murder isn't a chance process. One person can see the headline and snap in the brain and kill someone the next day.
This doesn't really apply since murder isn't a chance process. One person can see the headline and snap in the brain and kill someone the next day.
Murder isn't any more or less deterministic than the roll of a dice, and someone trying to break the streak is a very odd and specific scenario, and someone could just as well decide not to kill someone to keep the streak
Sounds like NYC has been civil for about two weeks.
;47133667']Jesus Christ that's awful. 11 days without a murder is a reason to celebrate? Wow.
Pretty amazing considering its the most densely populated place in the US
Its all star week here that's why
