Mitt Romney made $100 million in the month of June while Obama raised $71 million

Romney campaign announces huge haul (CNN) – Mitt Romney's presidential campaign announced Monday morning that it and the Republican National Committee combined raised $106.1 million in June and finished the month with $160 million cash on hand. CNN confirmed last week that the Romney campaign and the RNC raised at least $100 million in June. The Romney campaign and the RNC, which began joint fundraising in April, when the former Massachusetts governor became the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, brought in $77 in May, out-raising President Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee that month. Obama's re-election team has yet to announce their June figures, but last month senior Obama campaign officials predicted that Romney would bring in $100 in June, that they would be out-raised, and that Obama would be the first incumbent president up for re-election who would be out-raised by his opponent. In an email release, the Romney campaign said that 94% of all the donations received last month were $250 or less, adding up to $22.3 million, which is just over a fifth of all money raised in June. "This month's fundraising is a statement from voters that they want a change of direction in Washington. Voters of all stripes – Republicans, Independents, and Democrats – have made it clear that President Obama has not lived up to the promises of his last campaign," said Romney Victory National Finance Chairman Spencer Zwick in a statement. "Our June fundraising is a sign that voters are fed up with President Obama's failure to fix our economy and want a change of direction," added Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus. "While President Obama thinks that the private sector is 'doing fine,' millions of Americans are struggling to find work, pay their bills and stay in their homes. President Obama is clearly in over his head and Americans deserve better." Fund-raising figures are considered a barometer of a campaign's strength, and much of the money goes towards paying for TV ads, get-out-the-vote efforts, and travel to allow a candidate to meet with voters. However, Obama's campaign last month predicted it would be out-raised by Romney's campaign and noted in an email to supporters Monday that the month of June still proved to be the campaign's "best month of this election so far." "But we still got beat - and not by a little bit," Ann Marie Habershaw, chief operating officer for Obama for America, said in the email. "If we lose this election, it will be because we didn't close the gap enough when we had the chance." According to the campaign, more than 706,000 people donated in June, with more than 181,000 of them contributing for the first time. More than 98% of contributions last month were less than $250, with the average donation coming in at $52.54. Romney's campaign, meanwhile, said Monday that 94% of their contributions were $250 or less, adding up to $22.3 million, which is just over a fifth of all money Romney raised in June. In May, the combined efforts between the Obama campaign and the DNC took in $60 million and had slightly less than $110 million in the bank. While Team Obama did not acknowledge Monday how much money the campaign has in the bank, Romney's campaign announced it finished June with $160 million cash on hand. Sorry if you still disapprove.[/sp]
Not really surprising, Obama hasn't launched his media blitz yet whereas Romney has been hitting pretty hard for the past two months.
Do they donate this money to some support group, or is it for the campaign?
Do they donate this money to some support group, or is it for the campaign?
I think it may be a little bit of both. The first article mentions how the RNC and Romney campaign "combined" made $106 million.
In all honesty, I wouldn't be surprised if Obama lost election. As much as the whole, "Sit back and watch my opponent make a fool out of himself" plan goes... People are gullible.
In all honesty, I wouldn't be surprised if Obama lost election. As much as the whole, "Sit back and watch my opponent make a fool out of himself" plan goes... People are gullible.
It's going to be a close race and no experts are able to predict the winner yet.
Now Romney can get an elevator for his car's elevator; so many elevators...
I feel truly sorry for the US if Obama somehow loses. All the sane candidates dropped out.
but there were never any sane candidates
I feel truly sorry for the US if Obama somehow loses. All the sane candidates dropped out.
Sane candidates? Like Santorum and Bachmann?
Sane candidates? Like Santorum and Bachmann?
John Huntsman and Gary Johnson.
I feel truly sorry for the US if Obama somehow loses. All the sane candidates dropped out.
Gingrich, Santorum, and Bachmann. Ya, they shoulda stayed in the race...
i wonder what else the country could use 170 million dollars for
GOP still sucks and will probably not win.
Don't really like either Obama or Romney but I'd rather have Obama again.
will probably win (50/50 really) because america has a terrible education system that spits out bigoted morons at light speed
I would rather vote for the incumbent then Romney due to his views. Not that Obama is the best person ever but there is no good alternative.
Given the audience he's been going for, I have to admit that Romney's been running a pretty good campaign so far. He certainly knows what crowd to market himself towards (unfortunately, my family is on the fundamentalist right-wing end of things). That being said, I'm curious and a bit excited to see what strategy Obama takes in his campaign. I'm voting for Obama in November come hell or high water, but I have to give credit where it's due.
will probably win (50/50 really) because america has a terrible education system that spits out bigoted morons at light speed
50 bux that it's Obama ~49% and Romney ~48.5%
Gary Johnson 2012
talk about a waste of money.
In all honesty, I wouldn't be surprised if Obama lost election. As much as the whole, "Sit back and watch my opponent make a fool out of himself" plan goes... People are gullible.
If Romney wins this time it'll pretty much be a sure thing that he's elected again. On the economy chart we're on the rise and will probably stay that way whoever is elected. If it was Obama, then it would probably be a sure thing that another Democrat is elected next time.
I'm really at the position where I want to leave this country if Romney wins. I know people keep saying he'll moderate out one he's in office, but I simply believe that he'll be pressured by the Republican base and Tea Partiers to do things like expand oil wells and frakking, along with building the keystone pipeline, take down education even further, and worse. Not to mention the fact that he's in a religion where if you disobey a command by their "savior", you get excommunicated, so he'll be following his faith in a lot of decisions, with the Latter-day Saints having a direct line to the White House. Say what you want, I've known too many Mormons and how their religion affects their lives to believe otherwise. They kidnap (they call them "faith interventions") family members who try to leave the faith.
Coming from a foreigner point of view, it's pretty disgusting the amount of money spent in this political bullshit.
Coming from a foreigner point of view, it's pretty disgusting how people think anything not liberal is shit and trash, and money going to their campaign is thrown away. Democracy is equal for everyone not just the party you support.
I think Mitt Romney is the adult Jonathan Krohn. He's bound to fuck everything up like George Bush did.
it's pretty disgusting how people think anything not liberal is shit and trash.
oh a fan of no social security and bible-thumping are we?
Coming from a foreigner point of view, it's pretty disgusting how people think anything not liberal is shit and trash, and money going to their campaign is thrown away. Democracy is equal for everyone not just the party you support.
just like how people think anything not conservative is shit yeah, people dont like people who fundamentally disagree with them on huge issues, who cares?
oh a fan of no social security and bible-thumping are we?
Actually I'm all for social security and have been atheist since I was conscious enough to call myself one. If all right wing voters in the US are bible-thumping Darwinists, then we could generalize all Liberals to be smug hippies that feel their opinion to be the only true one and all others are shit. It's not up to you to decide what is a valid political opinion and what isn't. I find people that say stuff like that to be worse than the bible-thumpers and stereotypical Conservatives. You vote for your own ideal and respect the opposing ones and respect other people's freedom of thought, because if you start categorizing ideals in better ones and worse ones you are on a very slippery slope. [editline]10th July 2012[/editline]
just like how people think anything not conservative is shit yeah, people dont like people who fundamentally disagree with them on huge issues, who cares?
People should still recognize that everyone has a right to vote for what they want, and that the money going to Romney is not more wasted than the money going to Obama. For the record, I'd vote for Obama if I was in the US.
Don't really like either Obama or Romney but I'd rather have Obama again.
Then go vote for Obama if you think you find it more favorable. unless you are not american
People should still recognize that everyone has a right to vote for what they want, and that the money going to Romney is not more wasted than the money going to Obama.
I don't think anyone is trying to infringe on anyone else's right to vote, they're just saying that it'd be really, really stupid to vote for anyone else. opinions can be wrong, pretending otherwise just allows people to make stupid decisions.
the money going to Romney is not more wasted than the money going to Obama.
both of them are awful wasteful things. i don't think politics and bank robbery should have the same goal.
