Jimmie Åkesson wrote in an open letter on Friday afternoon that he was exhausted and needed some time out of politics.

"Now the election is over and things have settled a bit, I've noticed that things don't feel as right as they should after a success like this," the letter said, reported the Expressen newspaper.
The party became the Sweden's third biggest after the national election in September, winning 12.9 percent of the country's votes.
Åkesson said a doctor had diagnosed him with chronic fatigue and that he wanted to be able to keep a check on his work-life balance.
"I also have a responsibility for myself and not least my family. Being a good dad demands a physical and emotional presence. This is important for me to keep going in the long term in this role," he added.
Åkesson is on sick leave from parliament until November 30th, although it's possible this could be extended, Expressen reports.
Parliamentary group leader Mattias Karlsson will serve as leader until Åkesson returns.
"I will take over Jimmie's functions temporarily when it comes to heading up the party's political leadership group, which makes ongoing decisions about political standpoints, as well as things like communicative tasks," said Karlsson.
"I'll also take over what Jimmie has been doing within the framework of parliamentary work."

It was bound to happen, considering what he has to withstand on a daily basis.
Now I know this is a temporary leave, but thinking long-term, I'd like to see Gustav Kasselstrand as a successor.
My friend thinks he's been infected by Ebola by african refugees as revenge for the party's politics.
No surprise, given the hate campagin raged by Left-extremists and other anti-democratic persons. Though, one can't blame him, he has had a far more successfull campaign than any other party, and once re-elections come by, I am sure he will step right back in.
Hoppas allt går bra, Jimmie!
yeh fuk da politically correct communist media conspiracy
[sp] aka everyone who doesn't support a party with scandals involving racism every other day or so [/sp]
It's no wonder considering he's been under constant attack by the medial and political establishment. Furthermore left-wing extremists have constantly been doing their best to disturb his speeches when campaigning all over Sweden. I watched him when he was campaigning in my city before the parliament election but he was barely able to do his speech because of rabid leftist extremists shouting and creating noise using any means necessary. He's probably one of the Swedish politicians that has had to take the most shit by pretty much everyone else. It's no wonder he would need this after two very close election campaigns (EU-election and parliament election).
I just hopes that he comes back eventually as he's a very talented politician and he is very important for his party.

Gustav Kasselstrand is a cool guy, but I doubt he will succeed Åkesson any time soon. Kasselstrand doesn't even have a seat in parliament and he's considered more nationalist than the SD party top. Realistically Richard Jomshof would be a more likely successor if Åkesson decided to step down. Mattias Karlsson might have taken over temporarily for Åkesson but he's generally a bit too nervous to be a good party leader.

You're right he won't lead the party anytime soon, but even without a seat in the parliament I can't think of a better person to succeed Åkesson. He really is a cool guy, calm and collected. And if you ask me I'd say he's just the right amount of nationalist, and he doesn't agree with this weird (and rarely discussed publicly) sympathy for Israel some top-politicians in the party are displaying.
Sverigedemokraterna have basically been at the receiving end of the media and the rest of the political parties literally shitting on it from the beginning of the election. I think many need to actually read their proposed points / bills of debate in parliament, most of it isn't all that 'extreme'. In a way you could compare them to the level of the Moderates, albeit with the disposition of some members are associated with people in the svenskarnas parti. It was not surprising to many in parliament due to the fact that most of them acted against Åkesson. Maybe the SD can use this time to freshen up it's image.

If you have any sources for associations with the SvP I'd gladly read them. I mean SvP is a full on nazi party that the SD on an official level has clearly distanced themselves from. I mean the SvP didn't get any representation on a national, regional or municipal level whatsoever. They are basically a non-party without any influence.
The SD politics are heavily simplified more or less somewhat of a mix between socio-economic left and value conservative right.
Don't agree with his views but I wish him well and a speedy recovery
Hope he gets well, decides this whole politics-thing is bad for his health, and retires. Forever. To a small island between Sweden and Finland.
Well, i hope he recover even tho i really dislike SD.
(IMO they have alot more cleaning-up to do member-wise before i actually reckon them as a legitimate party.)
