Washington (CNN) -- A number of websites including TMZ and YouTube posted a video Wednesday showing four men dressed in U.S. Marine Corps combat gear urinating on the apparently dead bodies of three men sprawled on the ground in front of them. One of the men says, "Have a great day, buddy." A voice asks, "You got it on the video?" to which another voice responds, "Yeah." Another jokes, "Golden, like a shower." It was not clear who shot or posted the 39-second video, who the people pictured in it were, or where it was shot. A senior Marine Corps official who has examined the video said the Marines are carrying 30-caliber sniper rifles and wearing helmets issued to members of Marine Corps sniper teams. The helmets are designed with a shorter front and sides so that snipers can place rifles and scopes near their faces. The official, who said an investigating officer was expected to be named shortly, added that the desecration of a body by U.S. troops could be considered a potential war crime. "We recently became aware of an inappropriate video on a public website that appears to involve members of our military," International Security Assistance Force spokesman Col. Gary Kolb said from Kabul, Afghanistan. "We will not speculate on the details but will take all necessary actions to determine the facts." He said an investigation was under way but would not comment on the video's authenticity. The faces of the bodies are not identifiable. "While we have not yet verified the origin or authenticity of this video, the actions portrayed are not consistent with our core values and are not indicative of the character of the Marines in our Corps," said U.S.M.C. Media Officer Kendra Hardesty. "This matter will be fully investigated and those responsible will be held accountable for their actions. We are in the process of verifying what unit these Marines are with right now and as soon as we have more information, we will let you know." "Regardless of the circumstances or who is in the video, this is egregious, disgusting behavior," said Department of Defense spokesman Capt. John Kirby. "It's hideous. It turned my stomach." In a statement, the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations condemned the video. "If verified as authentic, the video shows behavior that is totally unbecoming of American military personnel and that could ultimately endanger other soldiers and civilians," wrote CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad in a letter to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta. "Any guilty parties must be punished to the full extent allowed by the Uniform Code of Military Justice and by relevant American laws."
Source: http://www.cnn.com/2012/01/11/us/video-marines-urinating/index.html?hpt=hp_t3 Disgusting and disgraceful
Who the fuck thought that would be a good idea?
Who the fuck thought that would be a good idea?
Urinating or videoing it? Or both?
Is anybody even surprised.
Urinating or videoing it? Or both?
Both.
I'm extremely mixed about the situation, who the fuck thought it was a good idea to piss on dead bodies?
What the actual fuck. [editline]11th January 2012[/editline] Found the video on LiveLeak. If you REALLY want to see this, here's the link: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=ddb_1326259280
Is anybody even surprised.
Of course. This is far from a normal occurrence.
This is absolutely barbaric and I hope they are punished
This is absolutely barbaric and I hope they are punished
I hope they are punished by the Uniform code. I saw some comments on the liveleaks, with people claiming, "I hope the taliban kills them and their family!!1111!!" and that kind of bullshit.
US_army.wmv
Would it make all Panamanian soldiers corpse-pissers if the people in the video were from Panama? [editline]12th January 2012[/editline] Is 'Panamanian' an adjective easily mistaken for a breed of dog? [editline]12th January 2012[/editline] ALL GOOD QUESTIONS
Would it make all Panamanian soldiers corpse-pissers if the people in the video were from Panama?
Except for the fact that Panama doesn't have an army. [sp]plus, I'm not panamenian, if that's your point.[/sp]
Except for the fact that Panama doesn't have an army. [sp]plus, I'm not panamenian, if that's your point.[/sp]
that doesn't make your post any less stupid.
Except for the fact that Panama doesn't have an army. [sp]plus, I'm not panamenian, if that's your point.[/sp]
No, that's not my point You did an excellent job of dodging my point
I know, I posted that out of anger. These three fuckers do not represent the american military, I know that for sure. But I'm tired of hearing these type of stories of american soldiers abusing of (perhaps) innocent people in Irak and afganistan. I do apologize if I offended you, but you gotta admit there are tons of cases like this in irak happening everyday, just check the leaked cables of irak and afganisthan, there's even a section dedicated to this type of abuse and violations of human rights and war treaties.

They're Marines.
I will use this incident to form the basis of my opinion towards all united states military service members, as that is the rational and fair thing to do. I will also assume that this is a direct result of the continuation of official doctrine even if it has been publicly denounced as despicable by top-brass officials. This is all valid logic and clearly the correct state of mind to adopt as a result of this incident. Drawn out deadpan sarcasm aside, if they were really a sniper team they would be operating independent of direct supervision from superior officers and thus they would have went about doing these things through individual thought. They're the only ones to blame.
Um, okey.
How exactly is a soldier pissing on a person's dead body more offensive than a soldier killing said person?
Well, it is terrible to see that because you would want to think the marine core values thought them better. But at the same time I'm not really upset because it just a few idiots and i know not all of them are like that. But what they did is really no different then what the insurgents/Taliban do to people.
How exactly is a soldier pissing on a person's dead body more offensive than a soldier killing said person?
I don't see how you cannot understand this. It is pretty disrespectful to do that to a body, any body. That would be like someone coming and pissing on one of your family members graves. It is just wrong and sickening.
Doesn't surprise me. I don't think they get enough brutal training for respect and politeness.
How exactly is a soldier pissing on a person's dead body more offensive than a soldier killing said person?
The soldiers likely *had* to kill them for whatever reason - they were defending their base, or invading territory and these people fought back (which is not necessarily morally justified but that's another argument). Urinating on something is globally a sign of disrespect and it was not necessary for them to do this.
They showed the video on my local news with the entire screen blurred.

[editline]1[/editline] Being outraged about the fact that they desecrated what is essentially a sack of meat and bones marginalizes the real atrocity, which is the fact that they ended a life. It doesn't matter if it was "necessary" or not.
I can see, in a twisted way, why'd they piss on the bodies, but why film it? I mean, why create evidence you're desecrating corpses?
Disgusting. Although I do find it amusing that nobody cares that it was likely the snipers who killed them in the first place. Killing people is apparently fine, but peeing on their corpse? WHOA BUDDY I DRAW THE LINE THERE. I agree it is fucked up, I am just musing over the difference in perceived disgust over the two events.

God Bless Amurica.

They should do their job with a sense of professionalism.
