Can we benefit from piracy?
The answer was, is and will be always no.
The piracy article is crap, and completely misses the obvious current strategy of offering a continuing service to people who bought the game. An example: People who steal Garry's mod now not only don't have access to VAC protected servers, but also gmod.org, and toybox. Their version is completely crippled. That'll convince a person to buy gmod far faster than any offer, dialogue with people or DRM.

People play Angry Birds a lot because they're out of the house. When they get home, they go play Killzone/Halo/Gmod or some other game. I, personally, don't find Angry Birds to be very fun. David Jaffe on angry birds and why he thinks people can't accept it as game of the year:
You're so blinded by the graphics and so blinded by the visual that you really don't appreciate what makes this medium special, which is interactivity.
Right. Well I'll just go play some DF and get back to you on that. There's a reason we don't mix casual games with regular games. Because casual games are casual, you play them when you've got 5 minutes to kill waiting for somebody or something.

You can very easily get around the garrysmod.org barriers garry has set up by having a friend.
