Mr Marek Kukula, public astronomer at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, said: "Part of me is with the enthusiasts and I would like us to try to make proactive contact with a wiser, more peaceful civilisation."
:tinfoil:

Intresting
I don't doubt that there is intelligent life out there, we'll just never see it.
oh no :ohdear:
Logical conclusion to draw, really. If there is interstellar life out there, is it necessarily a good idea to loudly broadcast our position to local space? Why the the Europeans go to the New World? Need/desire for wealth and resources. What's the principal argument for expansion into space? Wealth and resources. What did we do to the people we found who were living on the wealth and resources we wanted? We brutally murdered almost all of them. What would aliens looking for natural resources do to a bunch of people occupying a world like Earth?

Of course

If sufficiently advanced civilizations have found ways to circumvent the extreme distances of travel on an interstellar and galactic scale, then presumably there could be a connected network of "warp-capable" species within our galaxy that we don't even know about. If this is the case, I find it unlikely that any aliens that come to visit will merely be here to destroy us and suck up our resources. Hopefully they'll be going on some sort of prime directive of non-interference. If there is no such thing in our galaxy or our universe, and even the most advanced civilizations take years or decades to traverse interstellar space (which would probably be done by robutts for the most part anyway), then the only aliens we'd see in person would probably be conquerors. There's no point in mustering up a huge amount of materials, manpower, and time if you're not going to get anything out of the voyage.

kill them with fire
Wheres that video about Neil DeGrasse Tyson talking about the 1% difference thing. I found that interesting.

If they' noticed us they'd have some huge evil (while based on a necessity, not some random need for violence) plot that goes way beyond our way of understanding. Sharing super advanced technology with us or making us part of their huge intergalactic union probably makes as much sense to us as trying to get an ant colony into the UN.
But the Indians didn't have nukes and tanks, did they? :smug:
If the aliens have the technology to travel billions of light years to meet us, nukes and tanks won't matter shit.

There's a decent ammount of water on earth, enough to travel a decent length atleast, plus there's not many planets (atleast to our current knowledge) with water on.
I'd say it's worth the risk.

Is water that rare?

We could be ants for all we know, and the universe is rather huge so the nearest water source from them could be us or another one billions of light years away.
We're alone in the universe. There are no aliens. It's stupid that you guys believe in aliens because 'derp we can't be alone' but you don't believe in a god because 'derp, show me proof' (User was banned for this post ("Trolling" - Greeman))
Oh no! Hopefully they look like this...
I myself hope we get aliens like them in Mass Effect.
Oh no! Hopefully they look like this...
That movie was so hilarious and awesome.
I read something a while ago that said just because they might be able to fly in space doesn't mean they have super weapons. The aliens could be running around with flint locks if thats all they needed to conquer.

wait until peta hears about this
wait until peta hears about this
What, we're gonna eat the aliens or something?
I don't think we will see the aliens themselves if we ever see them. If they were smart enough they would send robots to check the planet out first. Unless they already have.
