NOTE: I didn't enclose the secrets to the tricks in spoiler tags, so if you don't want to see the secrets, close your eyes Etc tricks (levitators, sponge balls, etc) Levitators The Effect: A magician takes an object, spins it and lets go of it, and lo and behold, it magically levitates! He can even make it go through a ring! The Secret: Some very fine, near invisible thread is taped to the back of your ear, and to an object. You appear to move the object with your hands, but you are really just moving your head a little bit. Also, a tip, when letting go of your object, don't throw it, just spin it in place or something. For putting through a hoop, I guess you just roll the string off oyur ear or something. I had a DVD that explained it, but my cousin broke it in half before I could see the hoop part :saddowns: My Opinion: I don't really like levitators. I usually bought my tricks when I was on vacation and didn't have access to some scissors, which are required to cut the string to your length. Sponge balls The Effect: A bunch of crap involving a bunch of foam balls disapeering and reapeering. The Secret: All sleight of hand. Also the fact that the balls are really easy to compress. The only trick I know is a quick ball cloning one: Stick 2 balls in a spectators hand (disguised as one) and do some random speaking magic, then the spectator opens there hand and there are now 2 balls there. Stiff Rope The effect: A seemingly normal rope suddenly becomes as stiff as a wooden cane. The Secret: One way, the rope curls up easily. Flip it upside down, it's stiff. Card tricks (NORMAL DECK) I don't know that many of these off the top of my head, my dad knows some math ones but I forget the algorithims at the moment. The simplest trick in the book: The Effect: The spectator is dealt cards face down, and when he says stop, he takes the top one off, memorizes it, and puts it back on the pile. The magician then deals cards face up and stops at the spectators card. The Secret: Deal cards face down from the bottom of the deck, till the spectator says stop, then memorize the card at the bottom of the undealt cards, then put the undealt cards on top. Start dealing from the top of the deck. When you reach your memorized card, the spectators card is next. Trick Decks Svengali Deck You cannot let the audience examine the deck if you are using this deck. The Secret: Every other card is a slightly shorter, duplicate (sometimes called 'key', or 'force' cards) card, and all the duplicates are the same number and suit. Note: To set this up, the first card on the top of the deck should a duplicate, and the last card a regular. Some skills and terms: (These are for right handed people, if you are a leftie you might be able to reverse hands you hold the cards with) Riffle: To show only regular cards: Hold the bottom of the deck with your thumb and 2 front fingers, with the face of the cards facing your palm (or above it). Now, use your thumb and slide it across the top of the deck. You will see all the regular cards, because only the longer, regular cards will catch on your thumb. Duplicate only: Same as above, only with the face of the cards away from your palm. Forcing a card: Begin to riffle through the deck slowly (Showing only the regular cards), and when a spectator says stop, cut the deck and have a spectator choose the top, face down card. This will be a duplicate. Double lift: This is a useful technique, which lifts 2 cards off the top of the deck, showing the bottom one, which is regular, allowing you to put it back and then take off a force card. To do this, put your thumb and index finger on the top and bottom of a card, and lift. Your fingers should catch on the long card, and lift 2 cards up. Riffle shuffle: Riffle through the deck, stop midway, then cut the deck and put the cut on the bottom. Some tricks: Ambitious card: Force a card, then riffle shuffle, and pull it off the top. Count: Force, then ask someone to pick a number between 1 and 52. If the pick an odd number, put down cards till you get to the number, and put that card down (Eg if they say 9 put down the 9th card) If they say even, put down the next card. (Eg if they say 10, put down 11) Transforming card: Force, then do a double lift, show them the regular card, put it back on the deck and pick up a duplicate, then place it on the table (without showing them the face), rub it, then flip it over. Disapeering card (You can do this with any deck, really) Make a move to put down a card, but retract it back to the deck at the lest second, and quickly rub the table and the release, to show it disapeared. Twisted Sister The effect: There are 2 decks, one red, one blues. Each has 4 queens in it. 1 spectator selects a suit, and tells another spectator the color of the suit. The 2nd spectator chooses a suit oppisite the color he was just told. The magician mumbles some mumbo jumbo, then the spectators tell him their cards. Lo and behold, the have changed places, and are face up in the decks (they have different backs and everything). Every other card is also a joker! The Secret: In each deck there are 3 jokers and a special, opposite back color two-suit queen. Really easy to figure out after that. Wizard/Stripper/Strip Deck The Effect: The Spectator picks a card, puts it back in the deck, and the magician can pull it out of the deck with ease. The Secret: All of the cards are cut with a stripper edge, meaning one side is narrower than the other. This is hard to detect, so you can pass it out onto the audience to examine. Whenever a spectator takes a card, discreetly flip the deck around 180 degrees while they are looking at it. It will be easy to find the card after that, just let your fingers catch on the uneven edge. You can pass the Wizard deck out to the auidence to examine and it can be used for multiple tricks in a row. Invisible Deck The Effect: The Magician takes out an invisible deck, and asks a spectator to take a card from it and memorizes it, and tells the magician what it is. The magician takes out a real deck, spreads it face up, and a face down card is the spectators card. The Secret: Each card has a corresponding double, that is stuck to the back of the card. Each of these pairs (except for the kings) equal 13 (aces are 1, jacks 11, queens 12, kings 13) Spades go with hearts and Clubs go with Diamonds. Well, I'm going to go scounge for more magic tricks to make this list more comprehensive.
magic isn't real
magic isn't real
Silence non-believer!
i used to be interested in magic and hypnosis when I was like 12, but nobody would cooperate with anything that i tried to do, so i gave up. i also kind of think hypnosis is a load of shit now.
I was decieved, you still don't say a word about magnets :frown:
add that one trick where you put two cards on top of each other and then snap and slide the top card behind the bottom one really fast [editline]09:03PM[/editline] i think it's called snap change

Just stick to magic tricks. Svengali is incredibly easy to do, it's also impressive. It has a few problems, like being unexaminable and you can't use the same deck from more than 1 trick, but it's still pretty good.
hold f11
Ugh, I hate card tricks, because I can never focus on the guy's hands and catch the sleight of hand crap.

I usually bought my tricks when I was on vacation and didn't have access to some scissors, which are required to cut the string to your length.
TO DO THIS: Create the illusion that you are putting the ring/other around the object, but you don't have to actually do it. For example, you could do this with your fingers. It is a bit easier with your fingers because you can move your fingers to make a bent circle, and make the illusion of the trick more plausible. Basically what you do is take your fingers, make a circle with your index finger and thumb (left hand thumb to right hand thumb, same with index fingers) and make a slight angle so that your fingers are pointing slightly away from you, but keeping the circular shape. For the illusion, you take your hands that are in a circular shape and hold them in front of the object (towards your audience). then, you bring your hands towards the object, bringing them as close as you can to the object without touching it or the string it is attached to. After this, if you would like to continue your illusion, turn your hands downward right after you bring them as close as you can to the object and move your hands up and down around the object. also, the way i know to do this trick is to connect the string to your thumbnail in some manner and use it to move the object up and down using your hand. Another way to maneuver the string is to take the string attached to your thumb and run it under your shoulder and over your head so that the string goes directly between your eyes. Makes the illusion better in my opinion. not recommended for bald people, although you can use a hat. Hats with bills bring the string forward so that the object is farther away from you. rate informative i spent some time on this.

It's not a trick, it's an illusion!

The Magic Thing A guy mystically makes a pillar of white stuff appear from his crotch. How to: First you sneak out your wand, then rub it with a hand, inducing the magic spell, then you chant "Arh hah" like 10 times, then suddenly you get a powerful feeling inside you, its the magic coming out, a pillar of ectoplasma flies out of the wand, stunning anybody it hits, including your computer. That is true magic, son.
