Ukraine said its troops attacked and partially destroyed an armed convoy that had crossed the border from Russian territory. Ukrainian government troops engaged the vehicles that had arrived overnight through a rebel-held section of the border, Andriy Lysenko, a spokesman for the country’s military, told reporters in Kiev today. Ukrainian soldiers continue to come under shelling, including rounds fired from Russia, he said. The government in Kiev has for months said that separatist rebels in its easternmost regions are receiving support from Russia, which backs them with artillery fire. Russia has repeatedly denied any involvement in the Ukrainian unrest.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-08-15/ukraine-says-it-destroyed-part-of-armed-vehicles-from-russia.html
Wuh-oh!
well... bugger
I bet Ukraine is really regretting surrendering their nuclear weapons to the Russians back in the 90s now.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
rip in pasta
This isn't going to end well.
Fucking hell. I thought this was going to be over soon.
Are you ready? To duck and cover?
This isn't going to end well.
Probably nothing will happen.
Well I guess they've shown remarkable restraint until now against a country that is shelling them and sending equipment to armed rebels in their country, but directly attacking them while they're doing so is probably not the best plan
The only result from this will probably be bad.
Fucking hell. I thought this was going to be over soon.
Seems like this is the part where the fun really begins.
I'm pretty sure they had every right to do so though, no matter Russia's military strength.
They were in a lose lose situation. Shoot it and risk escalation, dont shoot it and watch your country crumble as your authority is undermined. [editline]15th August 2014[/editline] Any verification on this yet?
Seems like this is the part where the fun really begins.
If fun is potential violence to you, then yeah.
Did they confirm if the crew of the vehicles were from the Russian armed forces or from the Russo-Ukraine separatists?
If fun is potential violence to you, then yeah.
I was being sarcastic, I don't think any sane person would consider this clusterfuck fun.

You'd figure that logically Russia can't deny involvement and then retaliate if their troops come under fire but I can guess it'll never go down that simply.
I'm pretty sure they had every right to do so though, no matter Russia's military strength.
I definitely agree, it's insane that in 2014 Russia thinks it's okay to just invade countries and have a laugh telling their citizens they totally aren't doing it, I just don't know if Ukraine can handle the additional problems it'll cause
Good job Ukraine, show the Russians you ain't taking their shit anymore
Right on cue:
It's like Putin isn't aware of how fast information travels nowadays, you can't just tell lies like this and not expect people to try and verify it.
It's like Putin isn't aware of how fast information travels nowadays, you can't just tell lies like this and not expect people to try and verify it.
No he's very very aware any amount of disinformation or noise is enough to stall entire actions We all knew in hindsight that Russia was in Crimea but the slight amount of ambiguity and hamfist propaganda was enough to stop any organised international response - let alone a Ukrainian one. Its the same with Syria - in hindsight it was completely obvious that Assad launched those gas attacks on his own cities, but the amount of noise stalled the reaction long enough for to close the window to respond. Even posters in facepunch were respewing obvious propaganda that it was the FSA that launched the attack. Its what makes modern propaganda tools like RT rather effective.
This is bad, like really fucking bad.
Dunno if RT is their most effective tool, they post about the kiev fascists and their comments are just filled with people with hitler avatars or nazi flags. Not exactly the group you want to aim for.
Sorry but I would say RT is in the top ten news sources even posted on facepunch it does have wide influence if you like it or not
Rip Ukraine
i notice that the BBC haven't even reported on this incident or the incursion last night at all or this latest supposed clash. I guess they're waiting for confirmation? Because neither articles I've read so far on this actually confirm the version of events.
I still can't believe there are people who support Russia in this crisis.
I still can't believe there are people who support Russia in this crisis.
Well people support ISIS, Stalin, the Nazi party so on and so on I'm sure supporting Russia is easy compared to that.
