Why the hell not. I've heard it's a bad game, but at seven bucks I think I might pick this up.
Don't get this game, it's shit.
No, really.

Answered your own question. Why would you buy a game you consider to be bad?
This game lacks building types, but still fun to play once in a while.
Answered your own question. Why would you buy a game you consider to be bad?
I said, I heard it was bad. I buy games that have gotten negative reviews but enjoyed them nonetheless.
Also worth noting that this game will get you 50% off CitiesXL 2011, when it released October 14th. Simply enter your serial onto the official website store to receive the discount.
I belive they said that the discount will be via steam aswell.
Wasn't this game some kind of weird MMO? I played the single-player portion for a bit, but it was really glitchy. I.E. all the resources on the map suddenly vanishing.

Which nobody should buy. They made a piss-poor subscription plan that screwed over those who chose not to use it (content such as buses was restricted to only those who payed) all the while they constantly advertise for you to upgrade. It's not like this is some free trial MMO where advertising towards you to upgrade is to be expected; it's a full game that people bought and paid for.
On top of that, Monte Cristo has shown to be awful at communicating with their playerbase. Also, I heard Monte Cristo has gone bankrupt (or very close) from Cities XL. They're expecting to make a half-assed improvement on Cities XL and sell it off as a new game to try and make ends meet.
Grabbed this.
I have City Life, and love it. Hopefully this will be just as good, if not better.

What you are saying was correct at the time of release, but since then they shut down servers for the subscription service all of the subscription content has been made available in single player mode.

Monte Cristo went out of business because of poor sales of Cities XL and the failing of the subscription model. Cities XL 2011 is being developed by an external studio. I'm not sure how it will turn out, but there was a closed beta tested by some members of the simcity community and they seemed to give it a positive review from what I remember reading.

Oh and if anybody watched the trailer, it's pretty inaccurate because the only mass transit in the game are buses.
Sim City 4 is better.
I've just purchased this, I likes the beta not for game play but for design mostly.

Is this true for the steam version though?
Sim City 4 is better.
Anyone who makes a new dynamic city builder would be a huge success in terms of popularity and money.
I doubt that, tbh.
Unfortunately, city builders are a very niche market nowadays.
Sim City 4 is better.
The only thing this has over Sim City 4 is curved roads.
This game is nice when at school, or when bored.

Anychance of a source? sounds interesting.

The website definitely mentions the discount on their online store, don't know about the steam discount though.

You all should know that there is an unfixable memory leak which causes the game to slow down once your RAM and pagefile is full. Everyone has this problem and no one could play it longer than two hours. That's what the Steam Forums says. Better read this: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1203672
The (new) developer knows it and doesn't give a s***. They answer to emails with "MAYBE it get's fixed in CitiesXL 2011".
Multiple times I considered buying it because of the freedom of road placement you have. But with those errors it's not worth my 5€ because it seems unplayable. Good thing I'm only interested in the transportation aspect and this game doesn't even have trains. So I keep waiting for Cities in Motion with Chris Sawyers Locomotion. :)
That's why dev's go down, they don't listen to their playerbase.
Hello everyone,
Some of you asked about steam availability.
The game will be available on steam on the day of the release, and the special offer will also be available.
Hope you'll enjoy it .

Fuck yeah. Also, I have a problem with Cities XL, I'm only able to do the tutorials, is there anyway I can start building a city from scratch? I don't see any available option to do so.
[editline]08:12PM[/editline]
Nevermind, fixed it.
I'm kinda mad that Steam fails to confront the Publisher about the known problems, it should've been taken off the store along time ago and now they're putting a known-faulty game up on sale.
I didn't know the Steam application had become sentient.
Besides, all VALVe do is a distribution deal. Quality control has nothing to do with them.

Even better, CitiesXL 2011 will be released on october 14th and given that the old version has those critical problems, the new one will probably have those as well.

Not sure how far their quality control goes, but there is one.
We're happy to take a look at games in the alpha or beta stage. Having a few bugs here and there won't impact our decision.
http://www.steampowered.com/steamworks/FAQ.php
In this case, one bug makes it unplayable. -.-
Here's a great example:
I bought it anyways.
Five bucks for a game with a memory leak which can be fixed without exiting is good enough.
Later:
Well, my PC froze hard about 20 seconds into the first tutorial. (Core i5-750/5870/4GB/W7 x64)
Lesson learned.
I knew this argument would be used against my post :v:
Still, their quality control is basically playing the game a bit and deciding if they're happy to stock it. It's not up to Valve to do troubleshooting, creating patches for the game (or chasing up developers to do so), or anything like that. It isn't a proper publishing deal.
No doubt the guys at Valve just didn't run into these issues, and there's currently no precedent for removing any game once it's distributed on Steam for any reason.
I wish maxis would make a simcity 5 :saddowns:

Why would the new game be faulty if it's not even the same studio? :downs:
