Sadly the triple-A games industry is obsessed with getting things out a mere month before Christmas, when in reality they should choose less saturated times when they know they can't compete with the big boys.

By "big boys" I mean like the top sellers, the big money folks like EA, Ubisoft, Activision, the guys who put out big-budget yearly mainstream releases like Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed, overmarketed gubbins guaranteed to sink their fishhooks into the masses as usual.
The problem I perceive is that too many games around that time could mean that there aren't enough customers to buy all of them so they all lose out on a slice of the initial/short-term sales pie. It's kinda like how, with YouTube videos, if a content provider puts out too many videos in a single day, they'll have greatly decreased returns in terms of average views per video since not everyone has the time to watch a ton of videos in their spare time, let alone from one channel. At least in the short-term, that is, though the long tail still comes into play for both industries.
